Description

Walking out to the crag with your buddies on an autumn day, it begins to drizzle so you pull out The North Face Men's Apex Bionic Jacket and you're instantly gratified at the soft, cozy warmth this soft shell jacket wraps around you. Made from TNF™ Apex ClimateBlock fabric, this soft shell jacket is tougher than a nylon windbreaker and has amazing stretch so you can climb with it and not worry about snagging it on the rock. Windproof and water resistant, it remains breathable so you can bring it on a cross country ski trip, out for a day of snowshoeing and on any winter adventure where mid-levels of activity are involved. The cozy fleece lining feels awesome when you wear it over a T-shirt and it wicks moisture and dries out quickly to keep you warm, dry and comfy.

Velcro tabs at the sleeves and a drawcord at the hem seal out cold drafts while 2 zippered handwarmer pockets and a Napoleon chest pocket stash keys, map, snacks and other small essentials. Wear it as a warm outer layer on a summer backpacking trip, the standard fit allows for a little layering underneath. When your summer playground gets blanketed in white, wear it underneath your weatherproof winter shell for some extra warmth. Designed for the wilderness but classy enough that you can rock it in town with jeans, The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket is a versatile piece that you'll grab whenever you head outside.

Great jacket
May 22, 2012

Good price, very wind and water resistant and nice for light hiking or the gray, drizzly NW days. I like that the hand pockets are slanted so that stuff doesn't fall out (unlike some higher-priced jackets that have vertical pockets suited for backpackers) and the chest pocket is great for wallet/glasses/phone/ipod.... Great jacket, great buy!

Great Jacket for College
May 07, 2012

I purchased this jacket for my son who will be going off to school in the fall. It's perfect for that in between weather and, since it isn't bulky, he will probably end up wearing it most of the winter. The biggest bonus is that it's waterproof. Since he will be walking around campus rain or shine and refuses to use an umbrella or raincoat, this is a GREAT option! He loves the coat, loves that lining, and loves that it's roomy. Really happy with it and will probably end up buying another one for my husband.

Awesome Jacket
May 03, 2012

I've been wearing this jacket for the past 2 weeks, and so far I've loved it. It's perfect for the cold weather in the early morning and nights, and has done very well in the recent rain. It's no winter jacket but does a very good job at helping keep you warm when it's needed. Water beads up and drops right off, I spent about 20min in decent rain storm with strong winds and was able to shake the water right off my jacket before I went inside. I plan for this to be my go-to jacket for the rest of the year! I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Great jacket with some limitations
April 10, 2012

Very light and warm. Everything I wanted as a light jacket to backpack during colder weather. Waterproof (light rain) and great wind protection. Quality is excellent! It is extremely warm for its weight. I do week-long 75 or so mile hikes in the Spring and Fall so I usually get some very cold backpacking weather conditions. This product will meet its intended purpose nicely. Only one complain about the collar. When it's unzipped, they don't lay flat enough for me. It's kind of annoying but not too annoying not to like the rest of the jacket's features. Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great Jacket
March 07, 2012

Pricey, but it's a North Face so you know what you're getting: great quality and hip style. The Apex Bionic is one of their most popular styles (and coolest names) because you can wear it as a primary and also layer it with a heavier jacket. I live in Atlanta and it's perfect for the fall/winter weather. I would definitely recommend.

The North Face Men's Apex Bionic Jacket
February 20, 2012

I bought this jacket for my husband and he is very happy with his new jacket. Flattering cut gives him masculine look. The size is true size and is wind proof. It is a very warm jacket. He did not have chance to test water proof yet. One little complaint is that the fabric is not soft. He feels that he is wearing a plastic one. I guess that water proof and wind proof made the jacket stiff. Overall, this is a nice jacket.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Cons: Cost, stiff fabric

This is quite the interesting Jacket. Im 6'3" 160lbs, so im sort of a tall, slender, lean build. For me the large fits true to size, an athletic fit right around the waist line, a tad lower most times. Sometimes it likes riding up, the front will ride up and the back collar will be sitting back and not touching my neck. If i straighten it down or walk with my hands in my pockets, all is well though. If you're picky you wont be particularly enthused about the collar not staying down, but its soft so its not that big of a deal. The insides of the jacket are akin to an Under Armour hoodie, extremely soft micro fleece i guess is the best way to describe it. The outside is where i can draw one of my only criticisms. It takes a minute to "break in" and get used to the semi-stiff wind/water resistant fabric, and the swooshing sound of it rubbing together if you're a fleece/hoddie wearer. In the first times wearing it it might bind up in spots a little and get a tad uncomfortable. I like the chest pocket, great for storing anything small you need to get to quickly, zippers work well. Although its lightweight, the jacket seems to be able to hold its own in a variety of climates, cold and snowy, to cool spring days. Unfortunately it takes me a while to buy North Face's products because im cheap, but they seem to come through and put out excellent products.

1. Very water resistant. 2. Very VERY wind resistant. I'd say windproof if it was not for the sleeves and waist. Some breeze gets through these openings. However, chest, back, and arms cozy. 3. Outer fabric resists snags VERY well. 4. Great for 30 degree, breezy days in Northern Illinois.

I brought this jacket because I needed a jacket for the fall and early winter down here in the South. This jacket fit the bill perfectly. The jacket is surprisingly warm enough to wear during the later winter months as well. The jacket is made of high quality material. However this jacket runs small so order up in size. Do not hesitate to contact the fine folks at Altrec to help with this purchase.

Great windproof jacket
October 23, 2011

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend to wear in the fall and spring (lives in MN) and while traveling in Europe in late fall. I like that it is windproof and repels water and so is great for drizzly, windy weather in fall or spring. It is lightly lined with soft material and has warm, lightly-lined pockets. My boyfriend is about 6'2" and slim and the large fit him well; it had some room but fit right at the hips and in the arms. This jacket is also great for winter activities like cross-country skiing on cold days if layered with long underwear and a light fleece.

Stylish, but performance wise? ehhh...
October 22, 2011

I brought this out in 50 degree weather in Rhode Island with a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath, and found that a nice hoodie is warmer than this thing. I'm not sure how great this is at wind proofing but I definitely expected more warmth from it; it's rather thin. On the plus side, it looks absolutely AMAZING! extremely stylish, very manly, but it pretty much stops there.

Best Bang for the buck
September 24, 2011

Excellent jacket, I only have it for a few weeks. It's definitely wind proof and waterproof. Thin and yet wind proof, that's why I choose NorthFace. I particular didn't like the feel of the outer layer at first, but grown to more accustom to it (I guess polyester is the only way to water proof things on the outside). Inner layer is soft with fleece and mesh. Liked the outer chest pocket, but there is no inner pocket anywhere. As always there are velco straps at the wrist and string pulleys at the bottom to tighten the jacket to keep the wind out...but none for the neck area.

Great Jacket
September 21, 2011

I have owned my apex bionic jacket for 2 years & have been impressed with it over & over again. It is very windproof & water resistant as long as you keep it clean & keep the DWR intact. I work outside & am an avid outdoorsman & wear this jacket about everyday in the spring & fall. It works great as an outer layer on those cool, breezy days. It completely blocks any wind & works well against light sprinkles & light snow. When the rain comes down a little harder, it works great as a layer under my hardshell. With it being so windproof, there is a trade-off of not breathing very well, so I don't wear it when the temps are >60 degrees F and I know I'm going to be active. I am 6', 210 lbs (athletic build) & purchased an XL- fits great with room underneath for layering on cold days. The only negative I can find is- I carry a medical bag at work & a backpack on hikes & the shoulders seemed to show signs of wear fairly quickly where the straps rub. I've owned other softshells that are more durable, but none that look as good. Overall, this jacket fits great, looks very stylish, & is very functional.
