being a great everyday backpack for class, I also use this backpack for travel reasons. I have taken this bag camping and hiking as well as on various trips overseas where it has done its job. Would recommend this item to anyone. Has lots of room for all your necessities.

I purchased this backpack for school this year at auburn and I'm actually using it for my hikes around lee county now as well. With the hydration hook I can put my water reservoir in where the laptop sleeve is and there's plenty of room for snacks and any gear you might need. The pack is light weight and contours to your back so heavier weights aren't as much of a strain on your neck/shoulders. Over all a great bag and for a great price!

This is the second Hot Shot backpack I've purchased. The first one for myself last year and now as a graduation present for my nephew. It has room for my laptop and has had a water bladder used in it. The longer style works for me, as well as my 6'3" nephew. Highly recommend.

You cant go wrong with North Face products and this is one of them. The side straps are particularly nice since it makes the bag feel smaller than it really is. It sure holds a lot of stuff snugly and its waterproof. Perfect for all sports.

This is my 3rd N.F. backpack...and by far my favorite. I still use my two older ones for hiking and traveling (as they are still in great shape), just decided it was time for a new one. North Face backpacks are a little more pricey compared to Patagonia and other comparable brands...but they are well worth the money. The bag fits my 15'' macbook perfectly, along with any notebooks/binders I may need. The straps are comfortable and do not pull on my shoulders. I'm fairly small...so, I contemplated buying a woman specific backpack...but I'm glad I decided not to!

Overall this backpack is very nice. It seems to have good quality materials. I'm disappointed because I received a defective bag, hence the low durability rating, but simultaneous high quality rating. Due to this, I'm at odds on whether I'm happy with this purchase or not. One of the mesh bottle holders on the side has a tear in it. It isn't a big enough problem for me to send back (since I'll have to wait a few weeks and pay shipping), but it is a big enough problem for me to be annoyed. I don't know whether the blame should be on North Face or Altrec, but I shouldn't have received a defective backpack, no matter how small the defect (especially given the money I paid).

This is a very good pack. Seems to have everything that I would need in a laptop backpack. The only problem is that it does not fit my 17inch laptop. That is to say the designated pouch in the main pocket does not fit the laptop. My computer will fit in the main pocket, just not were it is supposed to go. So unfortunately I have to return it for another one, because there is no point if my computer does not fit where it is supposed to go. Other than that is is a good pack. Thanks

This bag is really large and spacious. I like that the back is sturdy so that I can't feel objects poking me while I am wearing the bag. I commute on the train and this bag is big enough for my lunch and gym clothes, with room to spare. I haven't gotten a chance to use it for hiking but I know it is a great size for this as well.

I was looking for a good backpack for my son who is in High School.I picked this one. When it arrived I was very please with this item. The Hot Shot was able to hold on of his books. The price was a steal.

Business Exec's - Lose the old school briefcase I have a different backpack for specific outdoor activities and I have always used a breifcase for work. Why? As a business executive I travel to multiple locations throughout the day and I am delighted with my Northface Hot Shot in black. Plenty of room to hold all items but not cavernous to where I am searching up to my elbows for an item. Great organizing area in front - perfect bag.

I bought this laptop thinking it was amazing after reading the reviews and the last reviewer said it fits the 17 inch laptops... boy was i wrong. The backpack came in and i was really excited thinking FINALLY something that fits my 17inch laptop. NOPE. It DOESN'T FIT. well unless you call barely zipping it over and you can see the laptop imprint on the top part of the backpack call a "fit like a glove" than i guess it KIND of fits... but really it doesn't fit. i have a 17 inch HP laptop and that thing was too small. you might have better luck with the Big Shot than this one because it is an inch taller... buy this if you have a 15inch laptop don't buy this if you have a 17inch laptop. just to be safe.

I had to make sure that my 17" laptop could fit in the backback I bought, and it fits like a charm. I use it for college and I still haven't been able to fill up every nook and cranny it offers.

My experience with my new Hot Shot is great. The bag is very comfortable and it protects my back, even if I have a lot of books to carry. It has a lot of room for books and other materials and the laptop has its own compartment. So, I don't need a separate laptop cover anymore. I also really like the space for bottles on the outside of the backpack. Finally, it looks slim and fashionable, even if jam-packed. I would definitely recommend it!

This bag does not fit a 16" laptop and definitely will not fit a 17". I am so disappointed in the quality and size of this bag.

I'm a minimalist who, unfortunately, ends up with a lot of junk I have to carry around, and am constantly on the lookout for a backpack which will hold a lot of stuff and still look and feel small, and this one does it. I liked the look of the big shot (also by North Face), but upon seeing it in person found it to be too big, bulky, and mannish (I'm a 5'2 girl). I decided instead on the hot shot. And this bag is amazing. My first impression was that it feels STURDY, and water-resistant (as summer is just starting, I won't be able to test that out just yet). I have a 13" macbook, and I was worried that it would have too much jostle space in this back pack which holds "up to 17" laptops", but it fits in snug as a bug, no movement at all, especially when cinched in with the provided snap, and rests several inches off the ground when the backpack is sitting; nothing is gonna touch my computer, I can tell. The front compartment is organized so that some stuff can sit at the bottom and the rest in pockets half-way up, so there's a better distribution and the backpack stays thinner. There are also two (count 'em, TWO) cinches on the sides for making the bag slim, which I love. The daisy chains on the front are really sturdy. Completely loaded up I can lift the bag by one of these small bits of fabric and there's no budge of stitching what-so-ever. These were one of my main draws to the big shot, but I thought they looked ugly all the way up. Three is plenty for me (All I can ever think of holding at once would be a water bottle and maybe a pair of water shoes) and looks much nicer. One thing I like as some-what of a back pack connoisseur is the way the left cup-holder is designed. It's got the mesh like the other side but then there is a separate, smaller compartment inside that that is grey like the rest of the backpack. This ends up feeling pleasantly snug and secure when a small bottle is placed in it. You could also probably put a small item in it like a phone or ipod and because of the fabric inside, it would not be visible through the mesh, but would be very readily accessible. I don't know, I just enjoy it. : ) On the other hand, the two bottom cinches go right over the cup-holders so if you (like me) like keeping your bag cinched tight, this makes them either inaccessible, or hard to get a bottle in and out of. I remedied this by getting a water bottle that can attach elsewhere via D-ring, and that works for me, (and looks pretty cool too). My only qualm is this cup-holder issue. It's completely not enough to lower the bags rating (like I said, it was easily remedied), but It seems like they could have run the cinches behind the cup-holders with a little ingenuity. Also the bag is very long. I'm 5'2, and I wouldn't say that it's length is bad, necessarily, but just different. I've only had it a little while, but every time I put it on I can't help but notice how long it is - several inches longer than any bag I've had before. But, like I said, this helps keep the front pocket organized, and keep the laptop several inches from the outside world on all sides, and I appreciate that. All-in-all, beyond my expectations (and they were quite high). This is a great bag, and comes with the North Face lifetime repair warranty, which you just can't beat.

This backpack is the best backpack ive ever had, when you put both straps on you feel like youre being held and it has a pocket for everything, in the main compartment i have an sub compartment for books and a different area for notebooks and the other zipper pocket has so many spaces that it keeps me organized, the only con is its shallow cup holder things

I can't praise this bag enough! My t61 with extended 6 cell battery fits securly in the laptop pouch, and there is more than enough room for books, power supply, etc. The straps are fully adjustable and comfortable. The back support feels great also. Would recommend this bag to everyone!

It didn't have quite as much room as I thought it would, but it still holds all I need it to: laptop, workout clothes, lunch, and some odds and ends. I am still very pleased with it as a whole and would recommend it to anyone.

this backpack can not be compared to any else because there's nothing else good enough. the intricate designs and sophisticated arrangement along with the ability to compact whatever is placed in it, makes this back pack the best. the design is just amazing. comfortable to carry, essential and necessary compartments. must have.

This is a very flexible and comfortable backpack. The storage part for laptops could be better protected, but is very accessable. Especially good during security checks when you have to remove it.

The Hot Shot backpack is great for books and a computer i use a computer every day for school and it fits comfortable in the bag and the support straps help keep everything compact i love this bag and its a great backpack to have for books and a computer

great as a daypack for the most part - could use a pocket or two added on the front to keep the small things seperated. there are organizers in the secondary pocket, but there is only so much you can effectively put in one pocket, organizers and all, without pulling out unwanted things as well. with that said, the pack does hold alot, the back panel is very comfortable, straps are great and the ability to hide away the waist straps are great.

Purchased for my son who started high school. He loves backpack. Says it's exremely comfortable and easy on his shoulders and back. He likes the extra compartments to keep his stuff neat and organized. Will purchase another one for my younger son starting middle school next year.

Once again, I knew when i was on a mission for a backpack for school... to find a north face one and that was quality, comfortable and great looking backpack. And I WAS NOT LET DOWN! AMAZING, looking even then packed to the brim... the compression straps still make it look streamline and verstile! Really i am becoming addicted to the products since they are truly AMAZING!!! AG
