Smartwool midweight
December 27, 2011
For colder weather this is a wonderful underlayer. I just wear this with my Arcteryx insulated jacket and it is plenty warm to keep me toasty in 10F that we had in the past week. This midweight is warmer than the micro weight smartwool but wearing indoor is just as comfy and not overly warm.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceGreat Sweater

SmartWool does it again. The fit and quality are both great. It's soft and warm without being too thick or too hot. While I haven't replaced all of my fleece with wool, I'm headed in that direction because wool smells better longer, wicks moisture better, and keeps it classy.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valuebest baselayer for cold weather

This was my first merino wool purchase (prior to that it was patagonia fleece or capilene). This was the smartest purchase I made for the winter months. As a baselayer, it takes the place of 3 cotton layers. I wear it next to skin and do not experience any itching at all. I have capilene 3 shirts from Patagonia and as much as I like them, the smartwool NTS midweight is by far superior in cold weather. As far as care - I wash it in cold water and dry it on low - no issues with pilling or shrinkage. I'm 5'9 145lbs and fit into a size M for this shirt. The only negative is that it's pricey however if you can get it on sale or with a discount coupon, it's worth it -- i own 5 of them.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, cold weather protectionNTS Midweight

Purchased top-bottoms after purchasing the lightweights. Wore the midweights all winter while on shift at the fire dept and they definately helped keep me warm and dry. Hope to get years of use from them, but i cant speak to long-term durability at this point. Definately recommended. I love Smartwool products. Pricey, but worth it in my opinion.
Pros: Performance1st smartwool item

I was initally going to buy a merino wool top from Patagonia but they were all sold out. Thus I decided to give Smartwool a shot. I was impressed with the quality of the midweight crew top - very comfortable , form fitting and warm. I wear the top a couple of times a week as a casual top at home and out (not for working out - I use patagonia capliene for workouts). I then bought the zip top midweight and boxer briefs from smartwool - this has now become my favorite brand for baselayer clothing. I'll probably buy a couple more of the tops before the winter is over.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useWarm and Comfy

My husband runs very cold and wears long underwear from October until May. I gave him a Smart Wool Midweight Crew as a gift and he has been wearing it non-stop. I am ordering him several more. The wicking and fit are great and he is much warmer!
Pros: PerformanceAwesome!

The long sleeve Smartwool t-shirt is extremely warm. I wore it for hunting as my base layer and loved it! I am planning on ordering more for cold weather days and the long johns too!
Pros: PerformanceNice wool baselayer

Just got mine today from Altrec and I've had it on all day. I think the fit is excellent (I'm 5'11 165lbs with rather standard sleeve lengths) and the warmth is great as well. I wasn't quite as soft as I expected when I initially put it on, but I expect it will continue to soften up as I wear/wash (similar to the smartwool socks). Looking forward to taking this out for some serious work on the slopes.
Pros: Build qualityAnother outstanding shirt

Great layering shirt that will keep you warm, yet will wick away sweat during long hikes in the mountains or in town.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useNice Wool Baselayer, But...

I really wanted to love this shirt. The wool is soft and comfy. The heather color is nice. Everything was perfect except for the fit. The Medium shirt (my normal size) was too short in the sleeves and the armpit seams too low (when I would lift my arms the shirt hem would rise too easily). A bit uncomfortable. Going up a size the Large was too relaxed of a fit, but the armpit issue was still there. So, if the shirt fits your build, it's a fantastic medium-weight wool baselayer.
Pros: Performance, Great valuethe best balance between warmth and weigth
November 01, 2010
it is the best baselayer I think, because it is light and provides the incredible warmth. it is also next-to-skin, so it is the ideal to serve as the baselayer. it is suitable for lightweight hiking and backpacking.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great valueSuperb Baselayer!

Smartwool never disappoints. And this base layer is no exception. I really like my stable of capilene garments, but it's hard to beat wool for warmth and all around performance. Form fitting but not too restrictive, this piece will serve you well on your outdoor adventures.
Great all around shirt

Can't go wrong with merino wool. Lightweight yet warm. This is a good weight for cooler temperatures.

I think Smartwool socks are the best thing ever so I decided to take the plunge by trying their shirts and I'm happy I did. I got this in the post and the day I got it I wore it to RAY's INDOOR MOUNTAIN bike park in Cleveland, Ohio (look it up!) we rode all day at least 6-8 hours and i had no moisture problems of cotton shirts (heavy and freezing cold) also no odor whatsoever after riding this long (which is amazing!) I broke in the shirt nicely, it did shrink a bit when washing which the packaging said it would do. Not a big deal at all. Excellent base layer or even only layer in warm environs...I'll be picking up another this week. Excellent products, excellent service from Altrec, as always...
Excellent fit, great product.

Wool is king. Smartwool has converted me away from Capilene. Their merino wool tops and bottoms are warm, fits well and is machine washable. I use the crew neck for alpine skiing and the zip neck for all other outdoor activities.
So much better than synthetics

This shirt is thick, warm, soft, and it does not stink at all. Overall it is amazing!
Great Shirt

Smartwool is a great product! Very warm and soft. Bought a L for my boyfriend, a little tight. He wears it as a base layer.

This is an excellent choice over capilent or polypro shirts. Warmer, softer, more comfy. Nice long tail that stays in my shorts and pants. Highly recommended.
Very effective

This is a really good shirt. Fits well, doesn't itch, and only smelled like a wet dog, and not a dirty human, after four days sweating buckets with no shower.
Great top, soft and comfortable
September 17, 2009
It's wool but not as you know it! No itch and very soft. Washes well (and unlike man made fibres it never stinks). Liked it so much I bought the zip neck one too.
