Great Socks!
March 22, 2012

These Smartwool socks are great! Before I bought these I was wearing patagonia's MW Hiking socks and they were so uncomfortable and difficult to put on. Then I bought a pair of Smartwool and instantly fell in love with them. They slid on very smoothly and were so soft not to mention they keep were feet warm. I've since purchased a pair in all colors and got rid of the old one's.

Perfect Fit
February 05, 2012

These socks fit perfectly both on your feet and for outdoor use. I wash them inside out as directed. They hold their shape perfectly and provide cushioning and support where needed. I decided to use them to run outside (it was in the low 30s) and they stayed in place, had good wicking properties and there was no chafing over 6 miles. I have no complaints and will be purchasing them again.

December 13, 2011

Got to love these socks, they are comfortable in colder weather below 50 degrees and last forever. If I could afford to have a pair everyday I would. They are expensive but are supposed to last forever so I will see. I would recommend to anyone who wants a quality sock.

Smartwool Socks are Great !!!
December 02, 2011

Just ordered more Smartwool socks, which for the past 25 years is the only sock I wear . . . hard to believe, but true ! I began wearing Smartwool socks for hiking more than 25 years ago; then realized they were also good to wear to work every day . . . which I did until retiring 3 years ago. I also use the Smartwool dress socks when I wear a suit or sport coat. The socks are very comfortable and wear for years. As recommended, I turn them inside out to wash; afterwards, when repeating the 'inside-out' process, they look like new. I have tried other brands of sock, but nothing compares . . . No question that this product gets my highest recommendation !!!

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value

A lot thicker than I was expecting
November 16, 2011

I came across these when searching for a medium thickness sock. I didn't think they were going to be quite so thick or I probably would not have ordered them. Other than that I had a good experience with Altrec.com

Great socks!!!
June 07, 2011

I have been wearing SmartWool socks for about 10 years now with no complaints. I wear them to hike in to work in and to run in. These socks are very comfortable and very well made. I'm a size 9.5 and the med. socks fit great. I wear them daily with Asolo boots and that seem so be a near perfect combination! I will say that if you wear them often, the heal area starts to wear after about 3 months or so. I should note, however; that I work mostly in the middle east and I am very hard on my clothes and gear. The few pair I keep at home for daily wear and backpacking, I have had for a couple years and they are still as good as new. These perform well here in the scortching heat and also keep my feet cozy on the train in fall and winter. I highly recommend these socks.

Great everyday sock for winter
April 16, 2011

My feet are cold during the winter and these Smartwool hiking socks make a real difference in the comfort of my feet. I use them everyday even for an indoor job. Not only do they help to keep my feet warm but they also keep them dry from sweaty feet. On really cold days I will use the heavier version of this sock for some extra warmth. The socks are soft and comfortable to wear. They do develop some pilling after awhile but not too bad. I haven't had any holes in these socks yet after 2 to 3 winters. I have used them for backpacking also. If the weather is hot, the socks are just too heavy, but are great for cool and cold weather. I wear a size 13 shoe and the XL size fit well.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, warm
Cons: pilling

Smartwool never disappoints
April 05, 2011

Warm, comfortable and long lasting. A medium fits an 8 men's foot perfectly and never sags. Always turn inside out before washing. This prevents the fuzz from forming on the outside. Socks can be put in drier but air dry so quickly that I rarely use the drier. Even though smartwools remain dry and odor-free for days, I will occasionally hand wash and air dry at the end of a day of backpacking.

Sock it to me!
March 09, 2011

These are some of the most usable socks you will find. They remain comfortable for much longer than other brands of socks. They last a long time. They don't smell bad like other socks. They do not itch at all. And they dry quickly, which means you can usually wash them in the evening and they will be ready for wearing the next morning. This enables you to go hiking with just one or two pairs of socks which save weight. After trying Smartwool I don't want to wear any other brand of sock for hiking or outdoor activity...or any other time!

Fit's Very Large
January 02, 2011

I bought these socks on a recommendation. They feel great and are just a little thick to wear with your everyday shoes & slippers. According to the sizing chart I'm a large (wear 10 or 10 1/2) but these fit very large on me, often bunching / sagging around the toes. Also, when I washed them according to the instructions, they pilled a little.

My New Favorite Footwear
December 28, 2010

I already own some great Smartwool socks for snowboarding, so I wanted to try Smartwool for general cold weather wear and as a slipper substitute (around the house). These hiking socks are my new favorite piece of clothing. I absolutely love them - they keep my feet warm and dry (not balmy or sweaty) in different climates. They perform exceptionally well, whether I wear with my hiking boots outside in the winter or as slippers inside my house. I went with a small, even though the sizing chart indicates I'm a medium. This worked out well, as the socks are a bit more snug on my feet, which I prefer. I plan to order several more pairs for myself and my girlfriend. The socks aren't cheap, but they are well worth the price of admission.

Awesome Sock
December 09, 2010

Bought some new hiking boots this past summer and decided I'd try out some new socks too. I got a pair of these along with the boots and after a few good hikes to break the boots and socks in decided they were perfect! Just in time too for an 8 day trip near the end of the summer. I found these on sale at Altrec and bought four pairs. They aren't too hot, but keep your feet warm and not too sweaty. Would definitely recommend these to anyone!

Perfect Socks
November 30, 2010

I ordered these for my husband because I had heard great things about the brand. He asked why I got them as they looked just like the ones he had from Costco. I bought them for hiking in Glacier National Park and he loved them. He even said he wanted another pair. So apparently they aren't just like the costco socks. We love this brand. And this is a great sock. Not too heavy. Good for any outdoor activitiy.

SmartWool socks rock
November 17, 2010

I recently purchased 12 pairs of SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Socks for my sons. This is not my first purchase of SmartWools though it is my first from Altrec.com. My sons are on their feet all day. SmartWool socks cannot be beat for year-round comfort: the padding is just right for them in the medium hiking sock and the moisture wicking feature is a plus in both summer and winter. Washing these wool socks requires no special treatment ... they go in the washer and dryer with jeans. They are as soft after washing as they were new. Highly recommended!

Perfect for spring, summer, & fall
October 17, 2010

I got some heavier Smartwool socks for winter a couple years ago and loved them but they were too warm for spring, summer, or fall hiking. Got these medium weight socks and they're perfect for hiking in the other three seasons. They're a bit warm for hot summer hikes but the wonderful cushion and fit is worth it. Plus they seem to wick moisture away from my feet which other socks I've had didn't do at all. I'm very impressed with the durability of these socks. I did a lot of hiking this summer and so far this fall in rough terrain and the socks aren't showing any signs of wear yet. I'm amazed. I'm pretty sure these socks are going to last at least three and maybe four or five times longer than other hiking socks I've used in the past. At the price I got them for here at Altrec they're a super bargain.

Great all-around sock
September 17, 2010

Very comfortable in all weather, great for hiking/working outdoors, and stays warm if it happens to get wet. Also, it's not so thick that you can't wear it with regular street shoes if you want to change out of boots without changing socks.

Very comfortable, Great Durability
August 15, 2010

I put these socks to the test on a recent 70 mile trip through Yosemite. They held up very well and provided the right amount of cushioning throughout my trip. Importantly, they managed to keep my toe stench to a minimum. These are highly recommended.

Needed something that didn't get my feet too hot. These work well. Good padding without being too thick.

Great product from Smart Wool (as usual)
June 04, 2010

I decided to try these socks because they're a lighter weight than the present Smart Wools I've been wearing for about a year now. With summer coming I wanted something a little cooler. These socks are just right. Still have some cushioning but not too hot for summer hiking. I wear them all the time - home, work, and hiking. I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and the medium size Smart Wools fit me just right - not stretched out but a nice snug fit - just the way I like them.
