Outdoor socks
December 06, 2011

I like the comfort of these socks. The fit and the fabric are both good. They dry fast after washing. But they do not fit as well or feel as comfortable as the Smartwool PhD Outdoor socks in corresponding weights, which I have learned work better for hiking as well as other activities including unspecified daily (and nightly) activities. They all last a long time. Turning them inside out before washing seems to keep them softer longer.

Excellent Sock, Fits Well
November 13, 2011

I have wear 8.5 size shoes I I have a hard time finding sock that fits from common large superstores. Not only do these fit well but they are also well made. I live in the mountains and cotton just doesn't cut it. We call cotton the death fabric. Wool clothing is the way to go for mountain clothing.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, good fit

the Best

Smart Wool hits a home run again! These are wonderful. I am using them as daily winter socks, not a liner, and they are perfect. They are high enough that you do not see skin when your slacks slide up a bit but not so high as to be annoying. The elastic is just enough to stay up without cutting off the circulation. They wear and wash wonderfully.

Socks For Life
November 07, 2011

I discoverd Smartwool Socks about 4 years ago. Because of the different sock weights, I wear them around the year. I walk about 16 miles a day, so the socks that I wear play a big importance in my daily life.

Just won't fall apart
November 04, 2011

My old pairs are about 7 years old and yes the wool on the bottom is wearing thin, but the actual sock just will not fall apart and still has yet to develop any holes, I'm amazed and will keep wearing these until they absolutely die.

Still Solid Socks
October 25, 2011

Hard to beat the consistency of Smartwool hikers. I've had some of their other socks that have worn out (too) quickly, but I've never had an issue with the hiker line. They hold their shape, and hold warmth well. Hard to beat a classic.

Apparently these are hiking socks but the majority of times I've worn them have been to work and on the weekends doing nothing particular active. They're also my go-to socks for hiking but they're so comfortable and not super bulky, I wear them all of the time.

Great Socks
August 15, 2011

I have two pairs of these socks. Used them on two trips recently. The first trip, to Northern Utah, we hiked over 27 miles in four days and on the second trip, to Southern Idaho, I did a short 6 mile hike. The socks performed well. It was hot on both trips but my feet stayed fairly cool and dry. I wore the socks on multiple days on the 4 day trip with no detectable foot odor. The only problem were a few stray strands on my second pair of socks. They did not seem to get worse with wear though, so not a big problem. I will strongly consider other SmartWool products in the future.

You Can't Go Wrong With These
June 25, 2011

Smartwool makes the best socks period! They are high quality and durable. Great for summer hikes and just wearing around town in the cooler months. They keep your feet dry when moisture gets in the boot and they don't stretch out and lose their shape. I have them in the grey and the taupe.

Nice socks, small fit
June 21, 2011

These are very comfortable socks that are made to last. However, if you are in between sizes on Smartwool's chart, like I am (size 9), you might find that medium is a bit snug and large is too big. I figured I'll go with the mediums to avoid blisters. Overall, these are high quality socks, as are all Smartwool socks.

Great Light Hiking Socks

Fantastic Socks
April 02, 2011

After having a rather poor hiking experience with cold wet cotton socks, I knew I needed to upgrade to something more suitable. I picked up these on sale and I am very impressed. A pair of these socks are totally worth the investment as they are comfy, fit perfectly, look great, and certainly hold up better in wet conditions. In addition they do not have that extreme thickness that other wool socks have, so my feet are not hot and sweaty.

Great Socks
March 10, 2011

It is odd to sing the praises of socks, but these smartwool socks are so comfortable that I have turned them into my everyday socks unless it is so warm I go sockless. A good friend saw me wearing these socks with crocks and he said "man. you're walking on clouds". I agree.

This item is very good during warm season. However, after a whole day walking, it is a little thin to me. So I am planning to buy another medium crew in the future.

Stellar socks!
October 20, 2010

What more is there to say? Classic all-around wool socks for hiking or casual wear! They don't get any better than this! You get what you pay for. My only gripe about these socks isn't with the socks themselves but with Smartwool's sizing. At size 8/8.5, I'm between sizes. With all other manufacturers, I'm a solid MEDIUM. The medium Smartwools tend to fit me better than the large.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
Cons: Cost

Performs and then some
August 30, 2010

I live, work and play in the French Alps. This sock is very comfortable, wicks moisture, and keeps substantial thermal properties even when wet. Ideal for every day use, trail running, as well as light hiking (day hikes). Use thicker socks for backpacking, but these Hiker light crew Smartwool socks are better than many non-Smartwool 'backpacking' socks.

Great Hiking Socks
August 12, 2010

Got these socks for a hiking trip to Peru. Warm, comfortable and strong. Will be using them for more hiking!

really comfortable socks
August 11, 2010

I purchased these socks for hiking, but they are so comfortable that I have been wearing them everyday. The seam above the toes is thin and neat, I don't notice it like in other socks. They wick moisture away and dry pretty fast when wet. I have size 11 feet and the sizing chart was spot on. I have already recommended these to my friends.

Cool, comfortable, great weight, right fit.
August 04, 2010

Been searching for the right sock. These are cool and comfortable, strong and well made, hold up well to use and washing, and feel good as I walk.

Great Socks
August 04, 2010

Bought these socks for my boyfriend and he wears them in his boots when he's out fly fishing on the Deschutes. He loves them! They keep his feet warm but not hot.

Outstanding product
July 08, 2010

My wife and i each bought a pair of the socks and we wore them for the first time during our recent cruise to Alaska. We wore them for two days, our feet did not get hot in our winter boots and the moisture was wicked away. We did not have to change socks for two days. Awesome product.

Great sox!
June 06, 2010

These sox are terrific for any weather, hot or cold. They are extremely comfortable, and can be worn in the house, with or without slippers. I'm buying more of these!

Excellent socks
June 04, 2010

Very comfortable and wicks away perspiration nicely. The only sock I wear in the summer. I generally wash these nightly at camp and they are dry before morning. Overall an excellent hiking sock.

Performance & value
June 04, 2010

Smartwool socks provide comfortable cushioning w/out being excessive or bunching, perform even when wet, regulate temperature, protect from developing blisters. Comfortable as light hikers or for daily wear. Use Heavy Trekking or Mountaineering line for backpacking (don't ask too much of the medium line).

Awesome socks
June 01, 2010

Great socks for summer and liners for cold or hiking. They keep my feet cozy on long hikes. I will buy these again.

Cool version of the original
May 20, 2010

These socks are light. They are best suited for warmer weather. The tops of the socks are quite thin, but the heel and toe cushioning are still there. Smartwool makes the best socks for hiking/running I have found.

Worst choice
April 29, 2010

I was in Peru for 3 weeks earlier this month and got stranded in the Andes. I had to climb and then hike only 8.5km to reach a town, along the RR tracks. An easy hike, normally. I did that in 2 hours. But these "Smartwool" socks were NOT up to it. I got very large blisters, one of which bled (I have photographic proof). When I got into town, it felt like I had fine gravel in my hiking boots. It was actually the blisters. Before leaving, I tried to find pure wool socks, but could find only these overpriced ones. TO BE AVOIDED except for very light duty.

5 star quality
April 07, 2010

Recently purchased a couple more pr of the SW light crew. They hold-up very well to daily use and are a great value.

January 27, 2010

This is my first experience with Smartwool socks, and I'm mostly satisfied. I wore them cross-country skiing one day and my feet stayed warm and dry. I wore normal socks the next time, and my feet stayed warm and dry. Overall, a nice product and worth the price.
