Quality As Usual

I have worn Smart Wool socks for a long time, these are my first liners and they are of the same quality. I wear a 9 boot and I have a medium liner. They fit snug just like I like in a liner. You can't go wrong with Smart Wool or Altrec.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceGreat liner!

This is a great liner,i wear it all the time with my other thick heavy smartwool in the snow and gives me extra warmth without the stink,ha! I have used for the last couple of seasons and they still going strong

I just tried the liner under a heavy pair of boot socks and they were very comfortable. Works great to add an extra layer without adding any bulk. Highly recommend these.
Pros: Build quality, Great valueperfect sock liner

I needed a liner for my boots and was a little hesitant to buy wool. However, I found these smartwool liners to be perfect. They're comfortable, not scratchy at all, and keep my toes toasty warm.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueOverall, a solid product!

I'm a great fan of smartwool, especially of their PhD socks. Sock liners in general are a great idea and I have used these ones on several hikes this winter. I bought these for my trip to Kilimanjaro but the feel great and fit awesome, I think I found a everyday as a micro light sock and see how the hold up. Overall, a solid product! Great Product! Highly Recommend!

I bought these socks to line under a pair of Bridgedale socks and standard offshore work boot. When wearing just the bridgedale socks my feet still got cold towards the end of my shift due to the moisture build up. Once I used the Smart Wool liners what a change! I just finished two months on a boat in the North Sea near Norway and not one day did my feet feel cold, tired, or generally in poor condition. I am usually on my feet most of the day and stand often on cold decks. The socks really do what I wanted them to do. I had been a little disappointed with Bridgedales alone. I cannot imagine now going offshore to work without at least four pairs of these socks. They made my whole two months work so much better. A great product.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, moisture controlApril 19, 2011
I haven't had them long enough to see how they'll hold up, but if they're anything like my other Smartwool products I'm sure the quality is excellent. They do run a little big. I normally wear an 8 1/2 or 9 Women's shoe so I originally tried the medium liner sock. It was a little big, so I ended up with the small liner. Since you're wearing another sock over it, the liner should fit really well, so you might need to order a size down.
Pros: Performancea good liner
April 08, 2011
fit was true to size order for men size 9. not bulky. I used liners while skiing under ski socks. I did notice a difference with feet staying warmer using the liner. have not used for hiking at this time but I do plan to use these when hiking.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceTried two brands
April 04, 2011
I ordered and tried this brand and the Bridgedale sock liner. I preferred the Bridgedale sock liners with the Smartwool heavy crew hiking socks. It seemed that the the Bridgedale liners had less hot spots than the Smartwool liners.
small is too large...

I'm a great fan of smartwool, especially of their PhD socks. Sock liners in general are a great idea and I have used these ones on several hikes this winter as well as for skiing. However, the S fits still too large. I am a 7, European 37 - hence my feet are not supersmall. Nevertheless, the sock liners are slightly too big to fit snug as they should. As for durability they seem fine after some miles and washing but I also don't expect them to last as long as the expensive PhD socks. Overall, a solid product, just wished the sizing was better.
Pros: Ease of use, Great valueComfort and Warmth
February 23, 2011
I have used these Smartwool liners over the years, and have always been pleased. They add comfort when hiking under all conditions, and add surprising warmth during winter wanderings. They add very little bulk, and dry quickly. I am very pleased with these liner, and recommend them highly.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, comfortGood Liner

This liner fits well and is very comfortable. It has held up well so far, but does not seem to be as rigid as I would like. They do provide a good buffer zone for the foot. I have not used them on any intense hikes, but they performed well just walking through the woods.
Pros: PerformanceExcellent wool liner
January 16, 2011
This liner is a little thicker than synthetic (polypropylene and Coolmax) liners, but it is an excellent choice for cooler conditions and if your boot/shoe can accommodate the additional layer. I've worn these cycling under merino wool socks, and I've worn these hiking under the Smartwool mountaineering socks. These liners did a great job of wicking away moisture and keeping my feet warm. I wear a size large in all Smartwool socks for my size 12 feet, and the size large for this liner fit just right, as expected. An additional bonus over synthetic liners is that putting on socks over these liners seems to be easier than with synthetic liners; the outer sock glides over these liners easier. I've read of others wearing these as dress socks, and I can see that the black liner would be a perfect choice with black dress shoes. The liners are suffliciently thick and have good elasticity to serve as a good dress sock. They don't slip down as synthetic liners would.

It's cold here, and I am even pretty much an indoor person. However, I have been known to wear my liner smartwool socks all of the time for a week. Luckily, my foot in them produces no odor - I attribute that to the socks. Also, they keep their shape the whole time. They are light weight, and yet still much warmer than a regular sock, or a big heavy sock. They are totally smooth and not itchy. The amount of choices for the smartwool at ordering was some what overwhelming, but I overcame that by ordering black for my first pair...a no-brainer so to speak. I most certainly will be buying more.
keep those tootsies happy

Having tried liners of various fabrics to wear under my hiking socks, the Smartwool wool hiking sock liners are prresently my winter favorite. After having tried other fabrics, I find the fit is good, with no bunching while hiking over various types of terrain - and perspiration exits fairly well. The socks dry fast enough for me. The quality for the money is okay, but one other very comparable content merino wool liner that I recently tried rates overall the same to me - and they retail for about $3 less.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueGood liner or dress sock

It makes a good liner sock. It wicks moisture away; keeping my feet dry all day inside my combat boots. It also makes a good dress sock.

Much prefer the still thin yet more cushioned & breathable feel of these liners over the synthetics I've used in the past. Enjoyed a brisk paced 7 mile hike in 70 plus degrees yet felt completely comfortable temperature-wise & no blisters - since ordered more -
Pretty Good

Good sock by itself. I am in Afghanistan and these kept my feet dry and comfortable, even in the summer months. I could not use as a liner due to boots not being sized for liner/sock combo. No bunching even after miles of rucking.
Good Liner
April 06, 2010
Wore these as a liner under my hiking socks for backpacking. No blisters, rubs or hot spots. I bought a size M based on a women's shoe size 8. The fit is not as snug as I would like for a liner. Next time I would buy a size S.

These may be the best everyday socks ever. I'm tall and female, which means socks are about impossible to find (women's socks are too small; men's are too big). I'm also big on comfort. These liners socks are perfect. They're comfy. They fit. They're not bulky. My feet are happy. Again, I bought them to use as everyday socks (I wear clogs), not as hiking boot liners.
Excellent

Nothing feels better on the skin than wool and these socks are great.
Wonderful socks
January 17, 2010
The socks were surprisingly soft! They kept my feet dry and after wearing them for a long time did not smell too bad! I would recommend these!
Very good sock liners. Good price and quick shipping.

I actually bought these socks for snowboarding, not hiking. I was wearing them under my smartwool warm socks. I loved the combo. I stayed perfectly warm in sub-zero weather and didn't feel like I sweat a drop. I wore a different pare of liners then next day, and did not have the same results. Very comfortable!!!! I would highly recommend these liners.... at least for snowboarders!!
Not as good as expected

These socks are not as soft and thin as I had expected from reading the reviews. The material feels cheap. I would not recommend it.
Good value

Great lightweight sock. You can use it as a thin sock or a liner if you need more protection from cold or blisters. It does feel a tiny bit scratchy, but that is good when it's warm. Fit true to size.
Perfect lightweight sock
August 25, 2009
I got these to take on a trip to Europe as my "everyday" socks - and I couldn't have asked for a better product. Lightweight and comfortable with different shoes, these will be a staple in my wardrobe!
Ready to Go!

These do what a good liner sock should do and live up to the Smartwool name. They are slightly heavier than some, so allow room when buying shoes.
Great Sock
July 21, 2009
I love Smartwool, and these socks lived up to my expectations. Nice as a thin standalone sock, size fit as expected.
Nice socks - Typical of Smarwool
July 16, 2009
These are nice liners. Don't think these are thick, but in the past I'm used to really really thin liners that are almost like second skin and are really slippery. That said, they're still pretty thin and slippery enough between sock layers so from my observation and experience using them during backpacking/hunting they do the job well. They fit snug, as a liner should. FYI, I always err on the smaller side because you do not want your socks to bunch inside the boot (especially a liner). That said, with most liners, if they're too small, they'll stretch way out and the threads will have more surface area with space between the stretched threads. If that's the case, the liners will stick to your feet/outer socks defeating (no pun intended) the purpose of the liner. My two cents. Anyway, nice sock as expected by smartwool. I'm paired with the PhD medium cushion Outdoor socks and it's the best combo I've used for hardcore packing while under decent load (60-80 lbs). Get differnt colors so you know which ones in your pack are 3 day old funk. Enjoy.
Good value

Not a bad sock for the price. Good as a thin, stand alone or as a liner. Very comfortable. Haven't owned them long enough to say how durable they are. I wear an 11 & they fit me a little loose; I think smaller feet would swim in the size large.

Excellent socks. They are comfortable and appear to be durable (I think theyll last a long time). I've worn them for 2 weeks straight and they don't smell. Highly recommend.
Awesome
January 04, 2009
I use these socks mainly on their own when I want a thin breathable sock, and I wear them instead of icky nylon "trouser socks" with my work shoes. I initially bought them to wear with some Dansko clogs that are tight-fitting. I only had one pair and I just bought three more, I love them. I can't wear wool usually, but Smartwool socks never itch.
Hiking
August 02, 2008
always end up with blisters so i bought these to wear under my hiking socks and so far so good. no more blisters. only downside i've noticed is that when your feet sweat the black dye will stain your feet.
Great for Winter Hiking... or Anytime
December 06, 2007
These are excellent liner socks! Currently, I use them mainly during cold weather, since they provide a significant amount of warmth yet are still very thin. If your feet get cold easily, I would definitely recommend using these liners. And even if your feet don't get cold easily, I would STILL recommend using these liners, since they are super soft, comfortable, minimize sweat and are a natural fiber!
