Perfect trail runner
May 10, 2012

Simply the best trail runner for me. I have a low arch on my one food and a normal one on the other this shoe offers the support i need for miles of painless running. It fits true to size if not a little small. Other than that though love the lacing system and the extreme comfort, switching to this shoe gave me relief from foot pain from having a low arch when i start cranking the miles up now that warm weather is here. Finally found a shoe that does everything i need.

Pros: lacing system, arch support, weight
Cons: color combos

Great Shoe!! not the lightest of the bunch but if you want something that is an excellent training shoe this is it. I run in Saucony, Brooks, all great but light and not rugged this is my shoe that is built to last and i love the Draw String laces awesome this is my second pair, and i havent worn my others out.

Pros: stability, durability

A great shoe!
March 12, 2012

I have been very impressed with the entire Salomon line of shoes. The XA Pro is another fabulous shoe. It is light weight and fits great. I have taken them out for long hikes without chaffing, blisters or sore feet. They have a good grip on the trail and my feet kept dry. I would strongly recommend this shoe.

Pros: great fit

I was very impressed with these trail running shoes. They seemed to be true to size without being to narrow. My foot was in comfort right out of the box.

Solomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 Trail Running Shoe
March 04, 2012

I've worn through 4 or 5 pairs of these shoes and I'll keep replacing them until the manufacturer stops making them. This is the best fit I've had with any shoe, and I'm especially grateful for a perfect fit with a back country workhorse like these Solomons. I live in the Sierra Foothills of CA, making my way to high country as often as possible. Granite and old lava beds are punishing on shoes and feet. I've worn these on moderate climbs, mulit-day hikes and for causual stuff around the house. Speed lacing makes snugging the fit easy while traveling or climbing. Found a great price on the shoe at Altrec. Also carried the color I wanted, which is often sold out in other online stores.

Salomon XA Pro 3D Trail Running Shoe

Overall, excellent fit and comfort for everyday use. Not thrilled with the very sparse footbeds these companies make for their shoes. Probably to save costs? My recomendation is to put another specialty-brand substantial footbed in the shoes if you plan on using them for any light backpacking. For trail running, they're fine.

Pros: fit and finish
Cons: sparse footbed

Great Shoe
October 09, 2011

I bought this shoe about 6 weeks ago, people either love them or hate them because of the orange color. I love them, they are comfortable enough to wear every day, lightweight and have the speed lace system which makes for easy, perfect lacing. They almost feel like I'm wearing slippers until you go out on the trail and feel the shoes bite in to the surfaces, making trail walking a pleasure also. I wish they had been Gore Tex, but other than that you can't go wrong purchasing these.

Pros: lightweight, speed lace system, comfort

Attractive Shoe
September 27, 2011

I purchased this trail running shoe two weeks ago. When it arrived, I really liked the styling and the color. The laces are easy to use and the construction seems solid. I think the design lends itself to trail running. I would expect it would keep my socks, towards the tip of my shoe, dry for longer than my other trail shoes because the toe construction is well thought out (better coverage at the tip of water resistant material and less mesh...or the mesh is further back from the tip) and would keep more dew from grassy fields out during early morning (or even rainy) runs. I've used it twice for walking and have found the 9.5 fits like a glove...unfortunately, the shoe design seems to be for those who use cushioned or "neutral" running shoes (i.e., those with high arches). I've used those types of shoes for running before and they gave me problems (with blisters on my arches no less). That's why I haven't run with these Salomons. They are very attractive and I expect that, with some gel shoe inserts I can use them for casual wear.

Pros: styling
Cons: high arch design

August 03, 2011

i had the previous version of these shoes and walked for most of a year on the AT and PCT. i haven't found another set of shoes as comfortable as these and the minor problems i had with the older version seem to be fixed in this set. they dry really fast, are light weight, incredibly comfortable and work well in the snow and the soles last three times as long as most other shoes. they don't work well on wet rocks on the AT though.

Too narrow
April 30, 2011

I can't really offer much insight other than to say that they were very narrow and I had to return them. I'm rating these as average due to the fact that I've owned several pairs of salomon shoes and they have always treated me very well. I did like the style of these and for the brief time I had them I could see that they were very well made; and light too. I'm not sure if I'm going to go wider or try another brand. As everyone well knows; if you are buying a shoe online, you have to take a bit of a leap of faith. I have purchased product from Altrec before and I'm sure I will again.

Great for spring summer light hiking
April 16, 2011

excellent support and comfort in the heel through the midsole and forefoot. i cant say enough about the confidence these shoe provide when walking over rocky terrain and over wet surfaces. the stability you feel walking over uneven terrain is very reassuring (my previous salomons felt the same) and i strongly recommend that you try a pair out especially if you require good ankle support. the xp ultra 2's are very light and vent air very well and yet feel solid and secure. i was skepticle about the pull up fastening system but to my pleasant surprise it works quite well. im often walking over boulders and logs along the river banks of the fraser taking photos of the landscape, i expect the xp ultra 2's to be great performers for the summer.

Great all around dry weather shoe
April 13, 2011

I work my shoes pretty hard, walking between four and ten miles every day and these shoes are great so far. I have the Gore-Tex version of this shoe for wet weather so I decided to get the non-waterproof version for spring and summer. It fits just like I expected and needed no break-in. The lacing system is fantastic. I love how fast I can get into and out of these shoes. I guess I'll just end with this: I don't use them for running - my review is based on my use: walking. They work well for that purpose and I highly recommend them for that purpose.

Pros: true to size, comfortable, great lacing system
