I'm 6 ft 175lbs typically I wear a medium jacket. The medium had an athletic fit and would work well layering underneath a shell or as a light weight insulating jacket.

a featherweight layer
April 13, 2012

This jacket is all it should be. My size L is 28" long at the back so it will fit under most anything, even a shortish jacket or shell, and 344 g. light. It is silky slick nylon so the arms do not bind with friction in jacket sleeves and the outer layer can move over it without much friction, adding to the overall comfort. Nice having a thin 800 fp down layer that adds much warmth to whatever you want to wear it under. All zippers are smooth and easy to operate. I have many lightweight down sweaters and this one is probably the most comfortable. Just don't take it into brush without something over it. The lightweight silky nylon probably wont take much abuse. It's a little pricy but worth it.

Color off from photo, other knit picks
April 05, 2012

I bought 'red apple' hoping for a color that was red, like the photo . . . the genuine article is migrating pretty close to orange. On a number of occasions I have 'caught the fabric' inside the pocket with the zipper - causing a 'locking' of the zipper. After fairly intricate effort I was able to free the zipper. This process has repeated itself a number of times. The jacket itself is terrific and functional. I think highly of it and intend to use it for years to come.

Comfy but orange is transparent
March 21, 2012

I received this jacket and really wanted to like it but the orange color is see through exposing the black and white down inside (the wife made me return it -- she objects to my 4 stars but another color would probably be fine). Its pretty light weight with not as much loft as I expected. But unless you are out in the really bitter, probably would be nice for backpacking.

Awesome warmth to weight ratio!
March 10, 2012

I love light and I love warm and this IS BOTH. The cinching at the waist keeps the cold out and makes it even warmer. Hard to believe something this light can be this warm! It is also more wind resistant than I expected. I might have to buy one with a hood, too.

Warm, packable jacket
February 23, 2012

This jacket is very packable, meaning it stuffs right down to a small size in my pack. When you get it, it doesn't seem very thick, but don't be fooled. You put it on and immediately feel the warmth. It is a nylon shell and is windproof, which is great. The collar is high enough to protect my neck and yet not feel like it is choking me. It is also a snug fit around the neck when fully zipped, good for keeping in warmth. I'm 6'2", 205, and a large fit me nicely. I wouldn't want to be much bigger, though, before I went with an XL. I would buy this jacket again in a minute.

November 09, 2011

I have been eyeing this jacket for a couple years and finally picked it up. I wish I would have done it much sooner. The medium fits perfect (I'm just under 6' and 175lbs). It's warm and best of all, extremely packable. Just throw it in your backpack or your suitcase and you know you'll be covered if the temperature dips. I like that I can pull it off for work as well.

Perfect Solution
October 31, 2011

This Jacket is perfect and amazing! It allows mobility while not being too bulky. The material is really smooth and soft to the touch and very comfortable which I think makes up for the lack of water resistance which is often shiny looking. Besides if its raining just wear it under your shell. I got mine for backpacking in winter and at 20 degrees it was too warm when worn with a base and midweight layer. Only had to wear it in the morning while making breakfast and at night while sitting at the campfire. Its super light and not too bulky but still thick enough to keep you warm. It packs down very small and is a nice little piece of insurance in your pack in case conditions get cold.

Great lightweight down jacket
October 23, 2011

This is the first time I've bought Patagonia product. This is a very lightweight comfortable down sweater. I find is quite warm on cold mornings. I also used it at a local heart walk and it was warm, light and comfortable. It was quite a windy day, damp and cold. I would recommend this product to anyone. I plan to wear it for most of the winter. It fit's true to size and the grey was the perfect color for me. My next purchase will be more colorful, maybe orange or lime green :)

Geko Green!
October 16, 2011

Well the price was right, even though this shade of green is not my favorite. The quality is great, it's hard to go wrong with Patagonia. It's a bit big on me, but that is the case for most LG jackets I have purchased. I usually run hot, on the back-country trails, so I see its use around the camp site. It packs quite well.

Essential Equipment
October 16, 2011

Hey, look, I have wanted a Patagonia down sweater for a long time. What is not to like - it is incredibly light, incredibly warm, and extremely "packable." Perfect to carry on a alpine touring expedition, as all you need is a light shell to put over this puppy and you are good for some pretty low temps and high winds. Only problem, they are pricey, so you need to find them on sale. Worth the wait!

September 14, 2011

My husband LOVES this jacket. He loves that it is lightweight, the feathers don't escape like other down jackets. He likes the color--it's different than all the other blue, black, or red jackets the guys wear. And he's easy to spot. I am looking (or asking for a gift) for one for myself this winter.

September 06, 2011

My husband absolutely loves this coat and he usually doesn't have much to say about clothing. It is light weight, warm, and looks stylish. It is perfect for those really cold Seattle days, and you don't over heat while wearing it (all according to my husband). He didn't like the price tag, but realized for the quality it was worth the $$. I think I am going to buy myself one now.

June 24, 2011

Great warmth for weight & fairly wind proof. I wear it all summer long in San Francisco and it packs down to take up very little space for traveling. It is cut a bit wide in the arms and belly: The medium fit my torso perfectly (6' 2" 180), but I needed the large for length.

Very Happy
April 07, 2011

I recently bought the down sweater vest. I should have bought this vest years ago. I am so happy with this Patagonia. if I wasn't, then I would simply return it. That is not the case. The second day I had my vest I went out on my KLR650 motorcycle. Just with a long sleeve T-shirt. the wind did not compress the down in any way. Painting in a cabin here in New Mexico at 8,000' it was cold all day. So I wore my down sweater vest with a shirt underneath. So as not to ruin my vest with paint, all I did was wear a sweat shirt on top. You forget that the vest is on. Climbing up and down on ladders all day you do not get that tight fit under the arms. With plenty of movement on my back. It is hard to believe that something that is so light, about the same weight as my wallet can keep you so warm. I am leaving for Australia for two months. Before I go I will be buying the jacket as well. You will not be sorry or regret buying this vest. Most of all you will get great customer service when calling the 800#. walkabout in New Mexico

Warm and light Patagonia down sweater
March 13, 2011

Of the several down sweaters I own, this is the snuggest and most airtight. I'm 6'2" 178lbs and the large size allows one heavy shirt underneath. The arms are cut long and large diameter for great mobility. The sweater is stuffable and quickly wearable, an almost weightless small package you can take along for outside, or even in a briefcase in town. Layered, it does seem windproof on its own (my Marmots are not) under a shell. The 800 fill goose down does the job. Pricey, but very warm, quickly. As with all sweaters, there's no hood, so you need a securable shell for head and neck coverage, warmth, and to seal out wind and water. I like sweaters because they do not limit mobility-you're not fighting the gear to bend over, twist or climb. If too hot, stow it in a tiny, no weight package.

Men's down sweater
March 10, 2011

I am a great fan of Patagonia and have been weariing their products for over 10 years. This is the second down sweater that I have. I had the pullover hoodie before they had the jacket and hoodie a few years ago, I found it very warm, comfortable, light and less bulky as the down jacket that I also had. Since I like the down sweater very much and found this sweater on sale with the colour that I like so I bought it. I also have the nano puff sweater, but the down sweater is much warmer and the price difference is not much. I like the fit of the down sweater but not the vest which is trim fit. If I wear the same size, the vest is too tight at the waist, but if I wear one size up, it becomes too loose on the chest. It is one of the best Patagonia that I have.

I purchased this jacket for backpacking. Liked the internal zipper storage pocket which converts the jacket into a small pillow. I am 6 ft. 200 and originally purchased an XL. warm cozy wear it all the time
March 02, 2011

My husband and I were traveling to Switzerland for the winter and we were looking for a light weight, warm jacket. After lots of research, we purchased this jacket. It is lovely, light weight and very warm. It folds to a small size and can be stored in a bag. Well to make a long story short, I loved his jacket so much that I bought one for myself before our trip. I wear mine now everyday even though we are back in LA. I don't leave home without it.... I just love this jacket. Best investment. Some time I even just use it as a blanket on my legs when am sitting in an outdoor area. Love it.....

Lightweight Warmth
February 23, 2011

Once you have moved from heavier weight clothing to a lighter weight, it is very difficult to go back. Over the years, weight has become a key factor in my decision making process. This jacket is as light as they come, literally featherweight and fantastic. As indicated in the product ratings, fit is true to size. I'm 5'10", 180lbs and the large fits me perfectly. Prior to purchasing patagonia's Down Sweater Jacket, I purchased the Down Sweater Vest. The vest is a slim cut, which is noted on Patagonia's web site. The Jacket, on the other hand, is a regular cut which is more generous and much more comfortable. I really love everything about this jacket...lightweight, packable and very warm. The exterior material is rip stop but I'm very conscious about the perceived fragility of the fabric. It's not a work jacket and I don't treat it as such. Overall, I highly recommend Patagonia's Down Sweater Jacket.

Hubby loves his down sweater too!
February 11, 2011

I bought this for my husband after he admired mine for two years and remarked how I never took it off. Sure enough, now we tease him about never taking his off, either! What is it about the construction of this garmet that makes it feel perfect, whether you wear it indoors or out? Weightless but warm, but not too warm, but warm enough, but not hot....should be called "the Goldilocks jacket"---just right!

Best Down Sweater I've Owned
January 18, 2011

This is the third down sweater that I have owned in my life. The first one was a Gerry Down Sweater from the late 70's!!! Then a North Face Sweater. This one is made much better and doesnt leak down through the material. The water repellency is fabulous. I used the live chat feature here (did I tell you how great that feature is?) to inquire about the fit and what size to purchase. They were very helpful. I usually wear a Large but settled on a Medium. I'm 5'10" and 175lbs so consider buying a size down. Again, the best Down Sweater yet!!!!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, great fit

Looking Good
January 16, 2011

This is a jacket that covers a wide range of temperatures. It is very light and feels good even around the house. My wife really likes the way it looks and that's the standard that matters. I have a nice leather jacket but this is warmer and much more comfortable. It is standing up to a Wisconsin winter very well.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
