Description

When you want the performance of Capilene, but want to keep your neck nice and toasty, pull-on and zip-up the Men's Patagonia Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck long underwear top. Made with super soft, durable, ultra-wicking Polartec® Power Dry® polyester, this zip neck provides just a bit more coverage, and some would argue better warmth retention and comfort. Brushed on the inside for wicking and heat retention, the smooth jersey exterior lets it slide easily beneath additional layers. Raglan sleeves and underarm panels provide increased mobility and the offset shoulder seams reduce pack-strap chaffing. And of course the neck zipper has a draft flap and zipper garage to eliminate skin irritation. Pull on proven functionality and effectiveness, with the Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck for men from Patagonia, and get a warmer neck to boot.

Patagonia Quality
May 16, 2012

Never disappointed with Patagonia quality. Arms are cut longer than with other manufacturers, making shirts fit perfectly for taller wearers (I have 36" sleeve length.) This will be great base layer for winter activities or comfortable top for lounging around the house.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

It's breathable and comfortable. It can keep your body dry when you get much sweat? So even if you are in cold weather, you won't get hurt by body temperature drop. Also, zip style are suit for someone with a big head.

Capilene 3 is great for fall!
November 07, 2011

I have been wearing Patagonia's Capilene 3 crews in early spring and fall for their superior performance in the range of temperatures that you get in these months. (45-65ish) They also make great base layers for winter months. I purchased this to have a long sleeve performance top that would be stylish enough to wear around town after a short hike or a round of disk golf. It fits the bill perfectly. Only cons are a little tightness in the shoulders and extra long sleeves. Also, don't let hook and loop closures (velcro) touch the seams, it tears it up. Length is plenty long enough for tucking in. I purchased a small. 5'5" 140lbs medium build.

Capilene 3 Zip
July 08, 2011

Patagonia makes some fantastic baselayers in the Capilene 1,2,3 and 4 versions. This is the midweight zip version and is a comfortable shirt to wear, looks good and does a great job of wicking moisture. The zipper is a nice option to vent if you start getting a little warm

Great travel layer.
May 30, 2011

Having bought this up a size to wear as a shirt i couldn't be happier. It's proven to be a great travel shirt, sitting on planes, running through airports and hitting the ground running. I own both the zip and t style neck and prefer the zip. The shirts just hangs better, though it could just be in my head. Look to get more next time i see on sale in my size.

Great layer
May 10, 2011

I purchased this item as a layer for an upcoming Mt Rainier climb. I have taken it out on a few training hikes and it has performed wonderfully. It is very comfortable and does not cause any restrictions to movement in any way. Temperatures have been between 40-50 and after 6 miles with a 50 lbs pack, I still feel completely dry. My only complaint would be that I would like it to be a little more form fitting in the midsection. I am 6'4" 200 lbs and it just hangs from my chest and does not cling to my waist at all. Other than that, this is a great product that performs well.

Good base layer for cold weather activities
April 01, 2011

This Patagonia base layer is great for keeping warm during those cold weather workouts. I wear it under a light windproof jacket for cycling in cool/cold weather and it is is the perfect weight. Fit is somewhat slim through the armpits/shoulders (I am a stocky size medium: 5'8", 175 lbs). I might buy size large next time. Fabric is great and does not develop that base layer odor too quickly (takes several wears). Overall a great piece.

Comfortable and functional
March 04, 2011

These new capilene base layers from Patagonia are a step up from the old ones. Much softer, better feel for casual wear while still just as functional when hiking, biking, etc. I am 6Ft 1" 175 lbs and while Patagonia fleeces and such I normally order medium, with the base layer products(slim fit) I order large and that works fine

nice baselayer
February 23, 2011

I really like the Capilene 3 Zip Neck it's a perfect midweight baselayer. This is my second one. My other Capilene 3 is the T-Neck. I decided to get the Zip Neck, so i can unzip it to cool down when need be. With the T-Neck you don't have that option. Anyways, I wore it under my MHW Exposure II Parka when it was 35 degrees outside and it kept me totally warm. The fit wasn't like skin tight like the picture depicted on the product page, but it was pretty close. I totally recommend the Capilene 3 Zip Neck as it does the job.

Men's Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck

This is another outstanding garment from Patagonia—silky and smoooooooth. It's marked "slim fit" but I would say it's closer to regular fit. Nevertheless, outstanding quality and a killer color combo.

Still the best
January 25, 2011

After a few years trying out different options, I'm back to Capilene and thankful for it. While the "compression" craze seems to be going strong within long underwear, I find that the other gear doesn't keep me as warm (and certainly isn't as comfortable) as Capilene.

January 23, 2011

Snuggly warm, fits nicely, very comfortable. Perhaps a tiny bit on the small side, although XL fit me perfectly at 5'9", 200 lbs. Just walked the dog in -25 degrees wind chill with just this and a ski jacket; will take it with me out to Utah for a week of skiing in March.

After receiving email requests from Altrec to review this product and receive a discount for the review, I'm complying. I usually don't. Anyway, this product fits snuggly which for me is good since even though I am old I am pretty thin. So not for very large persons, I think. Otherwise, nice and comfortable and warm in below freezing days as a basic layer. No need for a sweater. If you have muscles, it'll show them off as well if you want to impress someone.
