Great Shirt!
April 04, 2012
I love my lightweight half-zip shirt it looks great with everything even under a casual blazer. It fits nicely and keeps you warm. I also bought the patagonia men's capaline 1 and that also is a terrific shirt.
Good base layer

I bought this for survival training weekends in the nearby mountains. For this I need lightweight, good layering and quick drying. This top has been very good, comfortable and warm. The fit is true to size.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useGreat Baselayer

I really like this baselayer. I have worn it climbing in sub-20 degree weather and also in 50 degree hiking. Very soft next to my skin unlike a few other baselayers I've trid. It also wicks well. It isn't warm but if you wanted warm, you'd buy a heavier weight layer anyway. I prefer to keep a thin breathable layer next to me. I really like the front zipper to help cool off when needed. I think the fit is pretty true to size. I'm 6' and 162lb with a long and thin frame. I prefer things slightly loose so went with the large. I think the medium likely would have been just fine as well if I wanted more of an athletic fit. Highly recommend.
Patagonia Capilene 2 Zip Neck

This mock turtle, 1/4 zip shirt is now one of my favorites. It's form fitting with a bit of stretch so it is very good at wicking. I find that I can use it as a base layer and also as a casual winter shirt. I'm 5 ft 11 in, 190 lbs and an XL fits perfectly.
Pros: Performance, good fitLove em

My son wears these like a t shirt. The style adds a step up so he can look put together. Perfect for staying warm without the bulkiness of always having to wear a jacket if outside walking between classes.
Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useLove this base layer

This works perfect I have been using this same style for 18 years and find it very versatile from a base layer in the winter to a extra just in case layer in the summer.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useMarch 29, 2011
This is my second Capilene long-sleeve base layer. My other is a 3. I give a 4 for Comfort only because I think for this lighter-weight shirt the neck is to long. Others may like it.
Really nice base layer

The capilene 2 is all you need for Lake Tahoe. I wear them under bibs and an Arcteryx Sidewinder shell. If it gets too cold, then you can put on a vest or a fleece for insulation. The fit is more trim than the version five years ago and has the right amount of stretch. I prefer the zip T neck to allow for a quick cool down by unzipping on the way up the lift. I cannot comment on long term durability (pilling, tearing, etc) but I suspect these will last. The smart wool is a bit softer but for the price I'll go with these for now. I am 5'6" and 155lbs and the medium fits perfect.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceCapilene still tops
February 17, 2011
I have used capilene for many years in the mountains all over the world, and it has never failed to deliver. Modest improvements have been made over the years, but it is still the same basic product and I have found nothing that beats it for base layer perfomance. The warmth to weight ratio is amazing. The feel is not quite cotton, but not far from it. The only downside (as with all capilene as far as I can tell) is that it does tend to hold odor. But that is a small price to pay considering that your climbing partners likely smell just as bad.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueStellar.

I love this 'shirt.' Most of the time, from what I"ve read in other reviews, people use this as an actual 'baselayer.' I, on the other hand, but a size larger than I normally wear and use it as an overshirt in the not-so-cold Arizona winters. Love it. Great fit, keeps me warm enough during the day. Stylish. I can't speak at all to using it during athletic activities but I'm sure it's great for that too. Would gladly buy some more of them - if only the newer colors were more solids - they're the best kind, imo.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useJust right for aerobic persuits

I wear this under a light vest for skate skiing in weather ranging from the mid 20's to low 30's. It is remarkably light weight for the warmth it provides. It moves sweat away from skin well, keeping you dry in cold weather.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceBase Layer Requirement

This base layer is a must for cold weather outdoor activity. Does run a bit small.

Excellent quality as always from my favourite outdoor brand name, Patagonia. Fits large i find, but so warm and comfortable and there stuff last forever, i love capilene, it is the best baselayer material on the market in my opinion. As for altrec, excellent and fast shipping as always, great prices, great products, one of my favourite outdoor suppliers
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useVersatile & Comfortable!

This is my second Capilene pullover and I love it. About to order a third in blue. They are incredibly comfortable, great for layering, and pack well. They allow you to get away with wearing a short sleeve shirt most of the year. I always travel with one, especially on flights. The Capilene 2's & 3's are perfect for where I live. (Alabama) Dries fast in our humid climate!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, packs wellStaple outdoor piece

Can't go wrong with Capilene base layers and the Cap2 is no exception. Breathes well and is very light weight (2010 version seems even lighter than previous years). Great fit and useful all year round, though when it gets below 0F I'll switch to a Cap4 base...
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceFall into Capilene 2
