Description

Silky-soft Capilene® 1 is the lightest of all our technical baselayers. A master at managing moisture to keep you cool during active use in warm to sweltering conditions, it also helps protect from the sun and acts as an excellent quick-wicking baselayer beneath heftier Capilene®or wool insulation when the mercury plummets. Made from 100% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) Capilene® 1 polyester, with Gladiodor™ natural odor control. Made in USA. Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene® Core Performance®Capilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions ? from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports. Great Hiking Shirt and baselayer
April 25, 2012

I bought the Capilene-1 T shirt to be my primary hiking shirt for hikes in Florida and for backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail. I've tried numerous other brands of synthetic, wicking T shirts, but the Patagonia Capilene 1 is my favorite. I've used them for hikes in temperatures from 50s to 90s. It serves very well as a base layer for cool weather, and as a wicking T shirt for hot, humid weather. For colder weather down into the 30s or 40s, I would go with the Capilene-2, which is also an excellent baselayer. I prefer the Cap-1 for warmer days and hot, humid weather. The fabric dries quickly from rain or perspiration, and is very lightweight. I'm 5'6", weigh 160, and the Large size fits me best. I recommend the Cap-1 shirts for backpacking trips also, the material and seams hold up well under backpack shoulder straps.

Cool Shirt for Exercise
November 16, 2011

Bought Capline 1 T-Shirt for exercising and warm weather hiking / biking. We won't have warm weather for a few months, but loving it for working out. The shirt run a bit smaller than a typical t-shirt. I'm 6' 2", 180 lbs with a slim build. A large is borderline snug, but very comfortable. These shirt weigh almost nothing and breath great. Don't know about durability yet (I'd keep away from loose Velcro hooks) but the build is great and I'm expecting years of good use. Looks sharp also.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Excellent lightweight baselayer
September 20, 2011

I own an extensive collection of Patagonia's Capiline baselayer garments, from Capilene 1 to 4. I puchased the Capilene 1 T for summer hiking/backpacking, to be worn under my hiking shirt. This is an extremely comfortable and light (but durable) garment. It is excellent for backpacking, due to its light weight and ease of washing. Patagonia also does a great job with odor control, which I have found to be a problem with cheaper products.

Excellent summer cycling baselayer
July 26, 2011

I use various weights and sleeve length Capilene garments as base layers year round. This silk weight SS Tee is great under my summer cycling jerseys. The feel on your skin is soft and light like fine silk. It never feels wet even in the 100 degree Texas heat. It dissipates moisture better than anything else I have tried and has some SPF too.

Quality SW shirt
July 26, 2011

This is a quality silkweight baselayer. I live in Southern California so this shirt actually serves as a top for running when it is hot out. As a running top it does great. It's lightweight, comfortable next to my skin and it wicks moisture to dry quickly and keep me cool. When it is a little chilly out I'll use this under a lightweight shell or long sleeve shirt and it gives me that little extra bit of protection to keep me dry and comfortable. The fit on this shirt is very close to the body as a baselayer should be. It's no secret that Patagonia is one of the best brands out there and this shirt lives up to its name. So far my shirt is holding up very well. I follow the laundry instructions and I let mine air dry so I have had no problems with my shirt. If you want a comfortable baselayer that keeps you dry this is a good choice.

Cap 1 Silkweight
July 24, 2011

The Capilene 1 Silkweight is an excellent all-around active summer shirt. Super lightweight and very comfortable. I went with size medium at 5'7'', 155 lbs. It fits slightly roomy, but not baggy, perfect for a stand alone summer layer. Or, if you prefer more of a skin-tight, baselayer feel, you could go 1 size smaller than normal.

I have worn Capilene 1 t-shirts for years. They are definitely built to last. The 2 shirts that I just received are the same size as all my others but they fit much tighter. I didn't get the stretch version but I guess the regular ones are now a performance fit. I am returning these and ordering the next largest size. I don't need tight fitting shirts for hiking in the hot desert heat.

best workout shirt
July 13, 2011

I use this shirt for gym workouts. It keeps me cool when I start to sweat, but does not get drenched in the process. The big plus is I don't smell horrible after my workout like some other workout clothing I have tried. The fit was athletic, not skin tight. The material was also very breathable. Buy this shirt, a little expensive, but worth it.

Upsize and it's a great every day shirt.
May 10, 2011

I'm not really sure who walks around wearing a skin tight base layer in warmer weather (i could understand layered in the cold temps) but what do i know. If you go up one size this turns out to be a great workout, hiking, around the yard shirt. Unlike other satin/polyester type shirts I've owned it doesn't cling. So you tend to forget you're wearing anything other than cotton until you start sweating....then it's your best friend. The length is great, even when lifting over your head the shirt stays where it belongs. Kudos on the design! Got mine on sale, will snag more next time they are marked down. As great is it's been, not sure i could justify close to $40 for a shirt sleeve t-shirt.

I Love You, Patagonia-- But...
January 27, 2011

Your sizing continues to frustrate. The new 2011 version of this shirt is quite different from 2010. I easily took a medium in '10, have to move up to large for '11. I'm still 5'9", 155 & the actual size is smaller-- including the sleeves. The fit seems to be pretty much the same. That said, the fabric is indeed better this year, lighter & softer. So long as one gets the sizing correct, this is still the best shirt available.

This ia a great shirt for any season. I wear it as a base layer in the winter and as a T-shirt in the summer. It is light weight and extreemly comfortable. They breath extremly well in hot weather. They also dry quickly when wet. I especially like how compact they pack for travel. I have various colors that I use in my travel wardrobe. This is another quality Patagonia product.

Best Multipurpose Top
November 04, 2010

The Capilene 1 T is the most useful top I own. I use them for running, yoga, weight training, hiking and general wear when it's really hot outside. They keep you very cool and dry. Drape and fit is good, they wick very well and are super durable. I buy the next size up to have a looser fit for my activities. I'm 5'11" and the large fits me perfectly and still allows me to use this as a base layer also. Best of all they are still made in the USA!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, made in usa

excellent hiking shirt
October 07, 2010

I bought two of these shirts for a hiking trip. They sure exceeded my expectations. They are super comfortable and wick and dry really quickly. They do not pill and snag like other drifit shirts I have bought. They are easy to wash and dry really quickly when you need to wash them when you are traveling. I liked them so well I bought several more when I got home.

Great tempereature regulator. I wear it under a Merino Bike Jersey. I mean what the point of having a Merino Wolls (Betasso) jersey if you put a plastic shirt under it. The Patagonia wool is King!

The Next Generation of T Shirt

Its the 21st century. Why wouldn't you ditch the cotton T's your dad wears, and get undershirts that are more durable, stay white, wick moisture, dry fast, and suppress odor?

Do not wear out and look like new after 10 years.
April 06, 2010

Bought Capilene T shirts 10 years ago and wear them a lot. They do not wear out and any dirt or food spills wash out.

Everyone Needs One
March 19, 2010

I don't know how I could get through a summer without this T Shirt. There is simply nothing better at wicking perspiration than this Capilene 1 "T". I have them in many colors but probably like white the best as I can wear it with my work/dress clothes. It's warmer than a cotton T shirt, & cooler than a cotton T shirt. How? I really don't know, but this shirt is absolutely magical.

Versatile shirt for warm or cool weather
March 11, 2010

Great shirt for walking the beaches of Maui or as an under-layer when skiing the slopes of Mammoth; Silky soft and top layers glide over it. I even wear the Capilene 1 under dress shirts at the office or wool sweaters during leisure activities. Increment improvement of natural odor control is appreciated for those long warm days during the summer.

The best active t-shirt
March 02, 2010

These t-shirt's are expensive, but when they closeout a particular color, you can get a very good deal. If you often use wicking t-shirt's they are definitely worth it. I also use the running shirts from Addidas and Columbia's Titanium line, and the Patagonia shirts are slightly better. The Capilene 1 is very, very lightweight and therefore dries very quickly. They also have a reasonably snug fit, which looks very nice. These shirts are ideal for high-output exercise activities.
