soft, almost silk-like
March 26, 2012

Have had the this long sleeve shirt in white for a while. It is noticably thinner than a Capilene 2 shirt. it is also much softer/smoother as well. I use this shirt to sleep with in a sleeping bag. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and a large fits well, not too snug yet still fairly form fitting. Nothing negative to say!

Nice fit. Cool, breathable andvery thin. It is good for activity and layering. Not sure if the stiching will hold up over time, it's a good base layer but I wouldn't spend more than what id did on it.

February 27, 2012

The Men's Capilene 1 Crew is light and cool feeling. It appears that it will prevent chaffing. I ran for 18 miles without any problems. The shirt was a little expensive even with the discount from Altrec but may be worth it. I can see have a short sleeve too.

Excellent Any Weather Layer
February 23, 2012

Dries completely in a few hours and is very soft and comfortable. Of course, since it is synthetic it stinks to high heaven after two days of use if you sweat a lot like I do. Cold weather makes an awesome base layer. Hot weather, it can be used alone, however, if you are husky like me, it tends to have that "slim" fit, but this really isn't a complaint, I just need to put it on and get myself outside!

Great baselayer
February 12, 2012

I have Capilene 1 pants and shirts in black and blue, and they work great as a silk weight baselayer. They are really plain though, and I wanted something with a little more pizzazz for running, wearing alone, or for the beach. The mango color of this shirt is great, bright, but not too bright. I use a medium as a baselayer, but I got large for this one, and the fit it a little looser, great for what I'm doing. Cap 1 is great for running and hiking. It wick sweat like crazy, and if it gets wet, it dries quickly. The only thing I wish Patagonia would change to make their regular Cap 1 even better is to use stretch material for the neck band. You have to be a little careful with when putting it on or taking it off so you don't stretch the neck out of shape.

February 01, 2012

This ia a great shirt for any season. I wear it as a base layer in the winter, it very comfotable fit in shirt. This is enough to warm baserayer every winter condition.(Hiking, Fishing, town wear) I'll use it as a T-shirt in the summer. Because Capilene 1 is light weight and extreemly comfortable and They breath extremly well in hot weather. They also dry quickly when wet. I especially like how compact they pack for travel.

PataGUCCI
January 13, 2012

Everyone knows about Capilene material from PataGUCCI. It doesn't get any better as a primary layer in cold weather. Tried it once as a rash guard surfing, however, and when it got wet it seemed to pick up a little more friction...actually gave me a bit of a rash. Stick to the cold stuff.

One of the best base layers around!
September 16, 2011

The Patagonia capilene line is awesome. They haVe four different types of capilene; each for a different weather condition and temperature. The capilene 1 is the lightest. It is made of 100% polyester, which dries very fast. However, the texture and feel is almost exactly like silk. I take an xl, and I feel like It fits me very well. Most t shirts that I have fit me like a pup tent, meaning they fit ok in the shoulders, but are much too wide around the waist. The capilene 1 fits so much better, so if I don't tuck it in, it doesn't flap in the breeze. Even though the fabric is thin, it is very durable. As I read the reviews, it sound like most people prefer the cap 2 above the cap 1. However I like the cap 1 better. The reason being that if I don't shave for a day or two and wear the cap 2, my whiskers sometimes rub against the fabric of the shirt and create pilling under the chin and on the shoulders. The cap one has never pilled, even a little bit. I got most of my cap 1 shirts on sale. Even though I really like them, I'd have a hard time paying full price for them.

Runs way small
May 25, 2011

Unlike my other two Capilene long sleeve tops this one ran small. Also, the silky finish of the Capilene 1 is kinda creepy. I love it in my capilene bottoms but it felt a little weird as a top. I had to return it.

May 19, 2011

I found this Patagonia product, in black, in Belgium. The white version is wonderful. Just warm enough, but cool enough not to overheat. Wore in 30 degrees (-1 C) as my only shirt during a 40 minute run. Perfect.

I use the long sleeve crew neck as a summer undershirt. It offers 15-UPF sun protection so I don't need to use pore clogging sunblock. Moisture management is excellent. I feel cooler than with out it. The Texas summer sun is brutal.

Design change has me upset
March 16, 2011

Patagonia never fails to amaze me with their downhill slide in design. While the company touts advances in its fabric technology, the design of the shirts goes downhill. The older Capilene 1 shirt was an awesome RAGLAN sleeve shirt. The awesome fit of that raglan sleeve shirt has been replaced by... well.... something that just does not flatter the chest and shoulders. You have a function shirt that just doesn't fit as well in the armpit and shoulders. A 5 star shirt has now become a 4 star shirt. Bring back the old design!

Great Shirt
November 11, 2010

I'm a big fan of the Patagonia Capilene 1 Crew Shirt. Its one of my most versatile shirts. I wear them as a base layer in the winter and as an outerlayer in hot conditions. It is extremely comfortable no matter when I wear it. Pluses: lightweight, fast drying, some sun protection, comfortable, and packs compact for travel. No negatives.

November 02, 2010

The Patagonia Crew Capilene 1 Baselayer is a warm, super ligthweight, durable, technical piece. The minus one star on the fit is due to the neck opening: it is a bit snug.

very light and comfortable
September 26, 2010

This shirt is very light and almost feels like I'm wearing no shirt. The fit was true to size - a little baggy (but I'm thinner than average). Makes a great base layer.

Honestly, I wear a capilene 1 crew every single day. I work outdoors in North Carolina, and these guys wick the sweat away and offer evaporative cooling during the ridiculous summers and are a very comfy first layer during the colder months. Pricey, but definitely worth it and are very durable (like most Patagonia stuff). An added bonus for you taller people is that they are plenty long enough to tuck in. I'm 6'2" and mine stay put most of the time. Far and away the best base layer out there for any climate.

Very Versatile
May 23, 2010

Perfect weight layer for cool and warm weather activities, means I wear this practically year round. Besides active use, it also works great for casual use - by itself, beneath a tee or polo, beneath a sweater, etc without adding too much bulk. Great for traveling, too. Just a great all-around piece, everyone should have a few!

Great sun protection, not too hot
May 10, 2010

I bought this for my husband, who needed sun protection while hiking. He thinks it's comfortable for a long-sleeve shirt, and it's not too hot.

April 28, 2010

I have worn these in the cold Illinois weather here and they are such a perfect baselayer. They are definitely worth the money, I won't go hiking without them.

Great shirt
April 16, 2010

Feels great, fits good, especially in the shoulders, where I find many shirts to be too tight on me. The length of the shirt was plenty long to tuck in too.

Great basic piece
March 18, 2010

Nice, smooth, snag-free fabric. Wicks well and is a versatile weight. Typically high Patagonia quality and holds up after many use-laundry cycles. I own several of the tops.

AN ABSOLUTE STAPLE
March 17, 2010

This is a product I have been wearing for at least 15 yrs now. Worn it in all conditions, from after a day at the beach, to climbing in the Atlas Mtns in Morocco, & to well below zero as part of a layering system. Great for the real cold believe it or not as a first layer when you know you're going to be pouring sweat no matter how cold it is...and then of course the necessity to dry fast, which Cap 1 always does. Couldn't live without it, I mean it, it is my absolute 'go to' baselayer for almost any situation.

The best underwear ever!
March 08, 2010

I gave a set of Capilene tops and bottoms to my hubby, and he says it's the best under wear ever! They keep him toasty warm and fit well under his clothes without feeling bulky. We live in Wisconsin and spend a lot of time outdoors in cold and damp weather, so we give clothes like this a good test. He's given the Capilenes enthusiastic thumbs up.
