Nice idea. Poorly designed.
October 21, 2011

Bought this to replace an old, heavy InCase messenger bag with a non-adjustable strap. The Daily Grind is slim and sleek; will accommodate a 15" laptop and a few books and has a pair of handy velcro exterior pockets for papers and keys. Two main design failures mean I'll be sending this bag back. First, the laptop compartment is extremely tight; I had to take the protective neoprene cover off my MacBook Pro to make it fit, and the Daily Grind itself provides little impact protection. Second, and more irritatingly, the rectangular metal retention rings where the strap attaches to the pack and very wide, and under normal use the strap will bunch towards one end of the ring, causing the edges of the ring to wear on the strap and concentrating the weight on one narrow point. Surprisingly poorly thought out for a Patagonia product.

Good everyday bag
December 27, 2010

I like that this bag seems well-made, durable, and can transition easily from the bike lanes to the office. It was a bit smaller than I expected, so squeezing your laptop in with its sleeve (since it doesn't have much padding) is a bit tricky. A good bag for to and from work or school, but I don't think it would be too useful as a carry on for longer trips.

Pros: Build quality

Great size and material
August 17, 2010

Bag size is perfect. It's smaller than the Patagonia Half-mass but large enough for a small laptop and some folders. The outside pockets are less than optimal, however, with small velcro tabs rather than nice & smooth zipper access.

Quality Build, light weight

Great all around bag for carrying books, journals, small, phone, ipod and other stuff. I was actually looking for something a little smaller; however, I have found the extra space is helpful for my needs. Shoulder strap could be more comfortable, there is no pad on the strap.
