Great mittens
April 25, 2012
There are many good things about these mittens: the removable liner inside, with flaps to expose both the fingers and the thumb, the long gauntlet, the snap to keep them together when not in use, and the long wrist cord. The flap for the fingers can feel a little weird, but it doesn't bother me. They are well-insulated, although my fingers did still get cold and I needed to use handwarmers tucked inside on days colder than ~30 F (but my hands are always cold and have bad circulation). Although well-insulated, they are not too puffy like some mittens can be, which is nice when skiing and hoping to still be able to grip your poles. I've only used them a handful of times so far, but they seem durable and well-made.
Pros: attractive, not too puffy, removable mitten-liner, long gauntletgreat mitts - great service

Very good quality and versatile - use the inner mitts alone, the outer shells alone, or both when its really cold The outer shells have a very comfortable lining which is very nice when the inner mitts aren't needed.
Excellent quality

These are a bargain for the price, very good quality and a great design. The strings for tightening around the wrist and arm are easy to use with the mittens on

Received the mitts super fast from Altrec. Mitts fit true to size. Liners are awesome with foldback fingers and thumb. Shells are durable and have good grip material. Also, mitts are surprisingly supple - as much so as some gloves.
Pros: great liners, super warm, durable shellMeteor Mitts

So I first ordered these mittens as a size medium with a 8.5 hand circumference and they were too small (I may have long fingers?). I swapped them for the large and although they seem a bit short in the fingers - I'm keeping them. The interior fleece gloves are really thick/warm (and honestly a bit tight) and I plan to use a substitute thinner pair as these gloves are plenty warm enough for skiing. Plus, with that fleece bulk it seems cramped in the finger box. Excellent craftsmanship and OR has really applied some great features (one-handed tighten/loosen cinch system, tiny magnets to secure the interior liner flap that folds back to expose fingers and another to secure the thumb flap). Overall GREAT value!
Pros: craftsmanship, valueAnother Great OR Product

Living in No California, I'm fortunate to be close to a wide range of mountain activities. I own a variety of OR gloves and mitts for various conditions. I bought the OR Meteor Mitts to fill the gap between my expedition mitts and trekking gloves. I recently hiked Mt Ralston (9280) on a mild winter day. Due to the lack of snow, the hike had very little on the trail and the temp as I started was around 38. After an elevation change of 3000 feet I reached the summit and right into a 40 mph wind with temps at 0. My trekking gloves got cold quick. I had packed the Meteors for just this case and they definitely came through. Within 15 min my hand were warm and within 20 minutes of descending my hands were sweating. These mitts are real warm and the inner liners have thumb and finger slots for using your fingers without removing the liners from your hand.
Pros: warm, lightweight, well built, liner finger holesAwesome mitts...

Like all OR products, these ones really make the grade. Awesome fit and construction. I think they run a tad small though and I had to return mediums for larges. Overall, awesome gear!
Great Versatile Mitts

My wife and I both purchased these OR Meteor Mitts, and are very pleased with them. We both do landscape photography, and find the inner liner mitts perfect for use with thin glove liners while operating our cameras. The magnetic attachment system for fingerless and thumbless use is great. The poskcet for a chemical warmer is handy. We also keep a chemical warmer in the outer mitt. Plunging back into the cozy warmth of the outer, waterproof, mitt is great. Very pleased.
Good combination

The mitts are a nice combination of shell and liner with palm flaps for extending fingers outside of mitts without taking off mitts. I often wear thin gloves under the shells. I recommend these mitts for cold weather wear.
Excellent

I work out daily with a group called Seal Team PT in Richmond Virginia. The workouts are outdoors from 5:45-6:45 am. We do a lot of pushups, bear crawling, pull ups, and other on the ground activities in addition to running. The Meteor Mitts are the perfect waterproof mitt. I removed the liners (which I have saved for that super freezing days) and the mitts without liners are ideal. They keep me warm on days in the low 30s and 20s, but do not get my hands too hot when we are running, crawling, and working up a good sweat. I can't believe I ever worked out without them. For anyone who wants a mitt that will keep them warm and dry but won't overheat, I cannot recommend this mitt strongly enough. Excellent mitt!
Can't wait to get out and use them

We had an early snow here in Wyoming and our house wasn't quite ready for the cold.. I ended up using these to keep my hands from freezing to death inside. Great buy!

OR proves that they've done it again... by making a reasonable priced, extremely funtional, warm mitt. The best part? They have flaps you can pull back to free your digits for tasks around the campsite. Lovely.
