As good as the reviews say!

I can say I was hesitant about spending this much on a pair of gloves, but I was tired of freezing my hands off during the ND winters. I am happy that I made the leap, my hands will sweat in these, even if my hands are freezing and my gloves have been outside, i can slide my hands into them get the blood flowing and my hands warm right up! Awesome product.
Highly recommended

I was impressed by the material quality of this pair of mitts. I bought it for an ice climbing trip and equally amazed by their performance to keep warmth. In addition, the design of the color is good too. They are now my best companion for the summit series. AMAZING!
Pros: qualityThe Best

These are excellent mitts. The gauntlet's are huge, the outer and inner shell are robust, and the leather palm is made to stand up to real use. Of course they cost quite a bit... but take the cost and divide it by 10 digits... and you can see why I'm wearing them on my upcoming trip to Denali. The Alti-Gloves are great too.
Pros: well made, good fit, very warmExcellent and warm

This is a very warm mitten. I have used this in the coldest of temps and my hands stayed extremely warm. I would recommend this for high altitude pursuits and/or watching a cold football game in Chicago. Definitely a classic.
Incredible Mitts
June 22, 2011
I used these mitts on my first climb of Mt Hood in May which was my first venture into mountaineering. I suffer from Raynauld's syndrome and have a tough time keeping my hands warm. I honestly don't think I personally would have made it with lesser mitts. The two layer design is great as it gives options to remove the inner layer when you are too toasty or use glove liners instead. One feature that I LOVE is the pull cords to tighten and loosen. There is no fiddling around trying tighten and loosen the same string on many gloves. It has one string to pull to tighten and a different one to loosen. The dummy strap is very handy as well. I would have lost them in the heavy winds without them during a belay. For most people, these gloves might be considered overkill in many situations but for me they were a life saver. Highly recommend if you tend to have cold hands or going into pretty extreme environments. But again, the two layer system gives them the versatility in various conditions. Highly recommend.
The best for the worst weather
April 14, 2011
Without a doubt these are my go to gloves in cold weather. I've used them for some of the nastiest weather and they perform better than anything else out there! As for fit, please make sure you measure your hand and see if you hand measurements fall in the middle of size ranges because you want these mitts to be a loose so that you can easily wear a glove linear underneath these OR mitts. Also it makes it so much easier getting your glove on and off quickly in the cold weather. My hand measured 8.4 which is a Medium size mitt, but it was way too tight and the LARGE is the size that I actually needed! Trust me, you will want to get a size larger than normal if the measurements of your hand fall on the bigger end of the size range. With that all being said, these are the warmest gloves to have at a fair price!
First and last Mitts

I bought the mitts for my aconcagua climb in 2012. I like how the lining of the gloves fit well and you still can layer underneath. Im a very small asian guy, mainly 1.65metres with little hands and i bought the small. Fits perfectly. It comes in red and black and the black matches my montane anti-freeze jacket. The only thing that i dislike about it would be the material looks like it can be torn after repeated use, so ill have to take care of it during my climbs. Haven't tried it in cold weather yet, but will be looking forward to a NZ climb this december and putting it to the test.
Very warm

The outdoor research mitt is exceptionally warm. They will be with me on my Denali climb this June. My only complaint is when I make a fist, the outer glove does not move entirely with hand. Overall, a good purchase.
Expedition Grade
January 17, 2011
I bought these mitt's for general Upstate New York winters and minor mountaineering close to where I live. I think Outdoor Research hits the nail on the head with the Alti Mitts, no questions asked! Due to the fact they are made for high elevation mountaineering, I have found that they are a bit much for what my intents were. I have used them in negative digits to take the dog out for walks and still my hands were a bit warm. I have found they are a bit bulky and for me, the sizing seems to run big. The liners fit very well, but once paired with the shell, I find I am always trying to pull my hand further into the mitt. I think form here, I am going to exchange the Alti Mitts for the Cornice Mitts. They both have same PrimaLoft One liners, but the Cornice Mitts' shell is not insulated, making it less bulky and probably not as warm as the Alti Mitts have proven to be. If you are looking for hand wear for polar regions or expeditions to Alaska or the Himalaya, then the Alti Mitts are the wise choice!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, wide gauntletOutdoor Research Alti Mittens - Best out there
January 05, 2011
Bought these mittens to take skiing in Aspen. They were so warm I was able to wear just the removable liner mitten on some days. They are pretty large (due to all the PrimaLoft insulation) but the drawstring makes them easy to fit snug. The only downside is the slight loss of grip (but expect that of any mitten, as opposed to a glove). I will be wearing them during the Chicago winter - quality product!
Cool!

These are what you need to have if you're going into high altitude or in extremely cold places, you can easily feel that you're seriously protected, also the quality is awesome.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useTerrific Gloves
December 10, 2010
I was VERY surprised by the HIGH quality of construction and materials. This gloves are absolute terrific. I love the RED color. As the previous review stated "These are the BEST mittens that I have ever had." I could not agree more. Excellent.
The best gloves I have ever owned.
May 22, 2010
Mitts are definitely high quality with the water proof shell and thick liner. Roomy enough to add an additional glove liner for the really cold days. I highly recommend this mitt for very cold weather skiing.
Hard Core Mitts
April 22, 2010
I came across Alti mitts on a guided climb of Mt Washington and Mt Adams this Feb in NH. We were climbing in 0 degree temps w/40mph winds. Everything on everyone was freezing. The guide in our group used these mitts. He said they are his best friends in this environment, and the weather on our climb was relatively mild for what he typically leads in. I have not yet tested mine in extreme cold, but, based on my experience, I can tell these are going to be great. OR spared no detail in quality or material for your hands.
Seriously warm

These is a typical Outdoor Research product - well thought out! Nice details everywhere with the idiot straps, easy tighten/loosening system and well placed Velcro on both the inner and outer gloves.
Great for very cold ski days

Great cold weather mitts. My high end gloves could not stand up to low temps on the mountain but Alti Mitts kept my hands nice and toasty.
Impressive features, high quality, warm
February 01, 2010
I wore these on a recent trip where the temps were 3-5 degrees. While I was moving, these were plenty warm. Standing still or sitting, my hands still got a little cold, but my hands ALWAYS get cold. These are the warmest mitts I've ever owned. I love the way the cinch cord on the cuff tightens and loosens with separate pulls - very cool.
Great for snowblowing
January 17, 2010
I have an average size hand (8) and the large are comfortably roomy with space for liner gloves. I can still just fit my hand in a Petzl ascender. My hands get cold easily especially when I sit on my open farm tractor in the wind to blow snow. The Mitts were great for that allowing enough dexterity to run the controls while keeping my hands warm.
Very effective in windy environments

Believe it or not, I bought these for use while cycling in the winter. I needed something that would keep my fingers from freezing while gripping handle bars and brake levers. Although these are probably too bulky for such a use - they work. In fact, they're the only hand-protection that I've found so far that has worked.
Tested to -65
January 06, 2009
I spent a week in Fairbanks Alaska with these Mitts in late December and temperatures ranged from -35 to -65 Fahrenheit. When layered with a thin fleece liner they are excellent. Being large Mitts they are not tactile so if you are expecting to do a lot of photography or need other intricate movement you may want to consider thicker liners but these are more difficult to slip in and out of the mitts. If you know it is going to be cold below -20 I would highly recommend these.
Expensive but worth it when you're in gelid cold.. Great mitts!
September 02, 2008
I had wanted these mitts for some time, but the price held me back. Then caught them on sale along with a coupon, so I bought them at approx. half retail. One of the best deals I've ever made. Construction is first-rate, thermal properties are outstanding, etc. They got Ed Viestur's endorsement and now I know why.
