Great Do-Everything Gaiters
January 25, 2012
The Expedition Crocodiles are the "gold standard" for functional, durable gaiters. I use them primarily for ice climbing and mountaineering, where you are more concerned about crampons puncturing your expensive outerwear pants. The Cordura all the way up the inside of the legs is a big plus in protecting your pants, and your legs from wayward crampons. I used my original Crocodiles for nearly 10 years, before I could not patch them anymore and the Velcro wore out. But I expect these new Expedition Crocodiles to last for years to come.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityBulletproof Gaiters

If Ghostface hiked he would have used these. Waterproof and completely weatherproof, they also add some insulation. Very well constructed and has a nice fit. When your braving the extremes these are the only choice.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, PerformanceMost Excellent

These gaiters are *excellent*. I believe them to be the best that are offered. Extremely waterproof & very well made, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Previous reviews regarding sizing are on target ... XL worked very well for me. 6'1", 220 lbs, size 12 shoe. Thanks, Altrec.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, PerformanceOR is the best

These gaiters are awesome!!!!! They are true to size, easily adjustable, and made of heavy duty fabric. I have the light weight version of these gaiters as well and they are very nice. Like all OR products, these are top-notch.
Pros: Great design, Ease of useGreat product, runs large

Purchased size M to use in warmer winter conditions, already have size XL for very cold weather use. Works fine for my size 10 1/2 feet. Size M is also OK for me even in spring or fall. Too hot for summer.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat Gaitors!

These gaitors are excellent. Solid construction and rugged materials. The velcro is very strong and actually takes two hands to separate. No issues with leaks snow etc., getting in the boot. Best used with boots that have a gaitor clip in. Overall an A+ outdoor product.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat gaiter

These gaiters are the best gaiters I have ever owned. They are extremely durable and nice looking. I am 6'2" and 225 pounds with size 12 feet (46 euro). I ordered the large size based on previous reviews. I have large calves and the large size fits snug over just a pair of goretex pants and boots (length is perfect). So if you are planning layering order an XL if you have large calves.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceGreat Gaiters but...

These are the best gaiters I've owned- heavy duty and very effective. However, as with most gaiters, the buckle rides too low on the foot. I've had buckles break and this looks like it will be a problem with these too (another review elsewhere reports this problem for these gaiters as well). That said, they are otherwise incredible.
SO FAR... SO GOOD!
February 01, 2010
Let's start by saying that these gaiters look better than any others I owned before. And after their first trial in the rocks, I have to say they certainly matched my expectations. Good features: 1- They are great for guys with big feet such us myself (US 14), because others are usually short, living the upper part of the feet too exposed. 2- They are properly fitted (circumference), so you they don't go too tight but there is no loose material to get caught on the crampons. 3- The inner protection is perfect. 4-So far, the straps that go under the boots seem to be very durable, so far. All in all a great buy.
Best Gaiters Made!

1. I got these in large, for my size 11 yellow (big fat) Koflach ice boots and they fit correctly - they are made for plastic boots. But, I also just used them shoveling snow (NH) with my summer hiking boots, and because of the extra wide Velcro closure, I could still get them tight enough to fit. 2. Stitching, seams, materials, strap, are all bombproof, but not thick or bulky. 3. I've used OR online support, they do stand behind all their products.
Good but not great.

Top plastic strap latch tends to break. Just besure to carry a diaper pin with you.
Perfect!

The O.R. Expedition Crocs are perfect, they fit the bill for sure. I just spent 2 weeks in the Alaska range with these and the only time I didn't have them on was while in my sleeping bag. Also, during the trip, I never removed them from my double boots. If I needed to add/remove a layer or take the boot off, I would just undo the velcro down to the boot (about 4 inches below the top of the boot). While wearing crampons, I nicked the inner side of the crocs but left nothing more than a small scuff. These things are tuff and comfy! Thanks O.R. and Altrec!
Best Gaiters - Be Careful of Sizing
March 12, 2008
Just a head's up though, they run on the large size. I wear an 11.5 boot, so I ordered the extra large (sizes 10-13, mens). They were too big though, so I decided to go with a large instead.
Well done Outdoor Research!!
January 27, 2008
Purchased the Outdoor research crocs a couple weeks ago and used them on a short climb up the camel's hump in VT. Even in the 2-3 ft of snow and cold winds I stayed warm and dry. They fit nicely over my old Asolo plastics and there was no interference with the crampons.
Tough as nails!

These crocs rock! Bought these back in 1991 and they're still hangin tough. I wear these during the winter and summer snow and rocky trails.Used a piece of tubular webbing to protect the adjustment strap from rocks. A well designed product.
Warm, tough and easy to use

I spent six days on Mount Rainier's glaciers wearing my new Expedition Crocodiles gaiters, and was very pleased with their performance. The gaiters accomodated the larger bulk of my Koflache plastics boots. They kept out the snow, added warmth to my legs, and tolerated my misguided crampons without taking any damage. On the descent, I was happy to find that the gaiters breathed pretty well so my feet did not heat up much.
