Worked Great
April 19, 2011

I followed the instructions on using Cotton Proof Fabric Care on 2 new pairs of hiking pants which were not water proofed. After air drying I tested and they repelled water. I have some old jackets which were water proof but are no longer repelling water so I am now going to treat them.

Pros: Ease of use

Works great, but washes out
September 03, 2010

This product really works! I took 2 cotton t-shirts and washed them in the washing machine with this product. After drying them, I tested them in the sink. The water actually beaded up on them. Impressive! My only complaint is that after 2 more washes, they were no longer waterproof and I had to re-apply the product.

Great for H2O proofing your stuff
August 31, 2010

Last fall I used this stuff on a pair of jeans I wore to the beach. I waded into the surf fully expecting to get wet (just to test their water repellence), but when I walked out, the jeans were bone dry. BONE DRY... even the seams! I am not kidding! A buddy of mine had me do it again because he didn't think I really did it. So, after going knee deep into the surf, I came out dry again! This stuff is freaky good when it comes to waterproofing cotton. I'm not sure how long it lasts, but when first applied and used, it REALLY works!

Works well at first
August 27, 2010

This product works well when first applied. The problem with cotton clothing; however, is that you need to wash it. After a couple of washings, this product no longer remains waterproof. You can re-apply it, but it is seems like more trouble than it is worth to re-apply every couple of weeks.

Works but not perfect
June 02, 2010

Tried this on a couple of cotton t-shirts. They did become somewhat water repellent, but not waterproof, and the repellency only lasted one wash.

Waterproofing a tablecloth
February 26, 2010

We have an old beautiful white tablecloth that got stained. With a lot of work we got the stains out and then wanted to be able to use the tablecloth without having is stain so easily. So I treated the tablecloth with TechWash to be sure it was ready to receive the Cotton Proof. The test went well with the hand wash test, except I forgot to use gloves and it was tough on my hands, so the next day I treated the tablecloth in the washing machine, first with the Techwash followed by dumping in the saved water from the Cotton Proof step of the test tablecloth plus an extra amount(I used 150 ml for the test so what was left in the tub - about 1.5 gal- was put into the Tumble Washer with another 150 ml for two antique tablecloths). There were no discolorations on the tablecloths and they ironed well. Water beads up on the cloth, so that is good. What I don't know yet is how well they will hold up at the next dinner party with the inevitable spills of wine and food, but it has to be better than nothing where they will surly receive a difficult stain.

USED ON NEW HUNTING COAT

Product easy to use, just followed instructions on bottle.Showed signs of water proofness right out of the dryer.

Wonderful product!

I live on a River Yacht and use this to water proof the upper decks canvas. I follow the directions for the washer and have not had any problems with the product and the results are fantastic. I have recomended it to several other boaters.

A great way to waterproof those winter parkas
March 17, 2007

Many winter parkas have an exterior of cotton that is fine for snow only, but when the weather warms the snow melts and soaks that fine parka. Nikwax eliminates that problem in a very simple way.

Surprising results
November 07, 2006

This was my first year sewing outerwear and waterproofing, or at least water resistance, is a necessity. I used the product on heavy cotton twill, denim and canvas coats - all with good results being reported. The canvas was black so while there were initially white streaks left by this product, they appear to have faded or rubbed off after a little handling (it hasn't been worn yet so I believe the residue came off easily). The kids have been out in the rain and mud a few times now with their coats and no complaints thus far. It was difficult finding a product such as this for cotton fabrics and I'm glad it is working so well. I say this is a good purchase for the buck considering how difficult it is to find/order natural fiber waterproofing.

Easy to do , leaving clothing soft and water beading on it.
August 14, 2006

Directions were clear. My daughter and I are gong to Iceland and have been told we should have waterproof clothes since when it rains it is also windy. We waterproofed two pair of cotton pants each. It appears that the water beads nicely on them and they feel very soft. We look forward to staying dry on our trip! Sallie Nealand

Great product!
May 19, 2006

I used this on my old shoes, shirts, and hats. Basically, it works! Especially, this is useful to make your hats and caps resistant to water.

Great Stuff!
March 27, 2006

Use this on an old, comfortable, cotton jacket. Wear the jacket when they tell you it might rain. Look cool (no overkill raincoat) if it doesn't rain, stay warm and dry if it does. The old jacket becomes your "stealth" rain gear.

Product worked very well
February 17, 2006

Just returned from Australia and New Zealand. Used Cotton Proof before we left and it worked great.

Great Product
June 01, 2005

I followed the instructions and the product works as expected. TIPS: instead of washing and draining the solution in a washing machine, I saved the solution (right after it was drained from the washing machine) for reuse on the second batch! Think recycle, folks! Isn't that great?

It's like having a new coat
June 20, 2004

I have a great raincoat I bought in Paris. I found out during the winter in Seattle it was not waterproof. I used Nikwax cotton proof on it at 2/3 strength, and it's like having a new raincoat. I don't usually sound like an ad for a product, but this stuff is great!

James Campbell

very good so far
April 27, 2004

The application was easy. We mixed the Nikwax with the recommended amount of water and painted the solution on an untreated canvas fabric. So far the product has worked very well. There was a slight chalk like residue once the waterproofing had dried. But, other than this minor byproduct, the product seems to work as advertised.
