Worked for Mt Washington
March 25, 2012

These are the first gaiters I've owned and purchased them for a winter climb of Mt Washington. The back of the gaiter is a nice stretchy fabric that breaths and the rest is a heavy duty fabric that will protect nicely agains those expected crampon catches. The durable fabric is not really a breathable fabric as when I took them off at the end of the day there was always a layer of frost/ice built up above my softshell pant and below the gaiter. Not that that was a bad thing for my purposes but wasn't something I was expected. I'll be taking them on a two week climb in South America this year and expect them to work just as well.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use

This product is great because it looks and works as if it is overbuilt and industrial. Very good construction. It puts other products to shame. Not much weight difference. I wish all products were made this well.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use

Type of Boots...
February 23, 2011

Mountain Hardwear recommends that you use these gaiters with a plastic mountaineering boot however i am using them with a pair of Columbia winter boots and they work amazingly! all around great gaiter even if your only messing around in the backyard. rated the durability 4 out of 5 only because i haven't had them that long but they feel like they will hold up very well!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Quality: 4 / 5

Initial thoughts

I bought these gaiters for an upcoming Rainier attempt later this summer. I have the large size which fit over my relatively bulky size 12 boots easily - the sizing guidelines seem to err to the small side. The velcro closure is sizeable and is very secure. I'm pleased with the purchase and looking forward to testing them in the real climb.

Pros: Great design, Build quality
