Description

Lightweight and breathable, the Merrell Men's Moab Mid GORE-TEX XCR Hiking Boots are a mid-height boot that will keep your feet dry hiking in summer downpours and crossing mountain creeks. Based on the already popular Merrell Moab Boots, these hiking shoes have been enhanced with a premium Gore-Tex® membrane and an Aegis® Antimicrobial mesh lining to keep the water out and still maintain a high level of odor-fighting breathability. Even after a few seasons of tough use, your feet will be dry and comfy. A breathable mesh upper is reinforced with durable leather overlays and toe and heel caps in high abrasion areas.

An Ortholite® insole can be removed to accommodate custom orthotics or replaced with a softer insert after it wears out while the long-lasting EVA midsole cushions and supports your foot throughout the life of the boot. These trail shoes provide arch support, heel cushion and stability while maintaining flexibility to let your foot move naturally. The Vibram® Multi-Sport Outsole has aggressive lugs to grip any terrain on or off the trail.

Used in a wide range of environments from serving in Afghanistan to hiking in Morocco to everyday use at home or at work, this hiking footwear from Merrell will not disappoint. Customers are reviewing that these Merrell hiking shoes fit as expected for the most part, but keep in mind that if you plan on wearing thick socks it's always best to size up. Available in regular and wide widths, the Merrell Moab Mid GORE-TEX XCR Hiking Boots for men need no breaking in and are ready to roll right out of the box.

Light and Comfy
May 22, 2012

This is a pretty decent set of boots. Haven't done much hiking with them so no comment on how effective they are in the backcountry. It may seem silly but they were purchased mainly as a pair of light, water-resistant boots for casual wear around the town. Vibram soles found on most Merrell boots are a definite plus. As with most GoreTex footwear, there was a fair amount of stiffness in the beginning. They did become more comfortable after several months of wear.

Great Comfortable Hiking Boot
May 03, 2012

I tried on a few boots before settling with these, and I'm very happy I did. They run true to size and for a mid height boot, they fit the best out of all the rest I had tried on in the Mid category. I haven't had the chance to take them out in the rain yet, but I have a feeling they will hold up just fine and keep my feet dry.

Pros: comfort, true to size, great snug fit, great color options
Cons: none so far

Great for extended hikes
March 26, 2012

I was looking for a "extended hike" boot for rocky terrain in Texas heat. These boots breath well and the can be submerged directly in water without a worry. They grip to surfaces great when dry. When wet they are OK at traction control. I felt really secure in my boots and did not feel any ankle fatigue after my trip. Break in period is basically nothing. I hiked 7 miles out the box with no problem. The only problems I had with the sboots were the packaging. The right sole was pinched under the boot former. This caused it to have a irregular protrusion which hurt the side of my foot. I replaced the soles regardless so no problem there. Secondly my boots had a piece of bottom rubber sticking out of the middle that gave my boot a titer totter effect. I shaved it down and all was well. Overall, for the price it is a great shoe to have.

Great boots almighty
March 19, 2012

Man are these seriously comfortable. I bought 2 pairs that is how much I liked them. I love the fact that they are super light and the bottoms are soft like wearing running shoes. I would highly recommend these and if you put inserts in them they would be the perfect shoe. I believe in putting inserts in all shoes. Get these I don't believe you will be sorry"........

Best shoe for daily wear

My Husband LOVES these! no break in time, excellent ankle support, perfect for WIDE feet. Totally water proof and yet, according to him not hot , good enough for all seasons.

Great - For colder climates
February 23, 2012

This shoe is extremely comfortable. It seems well made and durable. My only complaint is I live in Hawaii, where it is hot and humid. My feet get hot and sweat when I wear this shoe for any sort of activity. I am going to return this shoe and try the Moab "Ventilator". The waterproof Gore-Tex is not gonna cut it here, its too hot!

Pros: comfortable, well made
Cons: hot for my climate

Excellent water proof hiking boots
February 23, 2012

My Merrell Chameleon boots were no longer waterproof, so I returned them to Altrec and purchased these as replacements. They are lighter and more comfortable. They are intended to be my primary boots for hiking and camping, but I've been wearing them every day! One thing I really like is that the laces have a loop high up on the tongue that eliminates the need for 2 cleats. So just one cleat on each side makes them MUCH easier to get on and off. I found the sizing to be spot on. I highly recommend these boots.

Pros: good value, lightweight, waterproof, warm, breathable
Cons: none!

Nice shoes
January 27, 2012

The boots are sturdy and comfortable. I go to hiking frequently and these boots did not make my feet tired so far. I am in California and now it is winter. I am not sure if my feet are going to sweat or not in California summer in these boots. We will see.

Pros: comfortable, lightweight

Premium Boots
December 22, 2011

Fantastic pair of boots!! The Gore-tex is unbelievable, you can walk through puddles of water up past your ankle without even thinking about it. Highly durable material is great for the more rugged terrain. Very comfortable even on the first use, no problems at all, not even blisters on my heels, it was awesome. Most people say you have to order a half size up for hiking socks but that wasn't necessary for me. The arch support is really great as well, considering I have flat feet I thought I would need to use my own orthopedic insert, but again the comfort level was incredible! Highly recommend even for daily use. The outsole on this shoe will never allow you to slip. Truly unbelievable!

Pros: feet stay warm and dry through any weather, never slip grip soles

Good Support, good tread
December 12, 2011

Pretty good on loose or slippery terrain, but it takes some time to break these in. Laces hold up well and do not fray easily. QR eyelets have a pretty smooth action. You need to wear good socks with these if you top wrap your laces, as the top cuff transmits the tight wrap to your legs. Wide sizes are roomy w/o losing support (@ 2E). Had these out on a jetty as well as on a riverbank, and did better than my old pair of mendocinos.

Pros: good ankle support
Cons: tough to clean treads

First, awesome price for a Gore-tex boot with a grippy Vibram sole. Boots are very durable yet lightweight so they won't slow you down. Give great support and extremely comfortable from day one.

These are very durable and comfortable shoes. We had a terrible winter here last year with winter precipitation that went well into spring and these carried me all winter, spring and summer. My feet were warm and dry and I work outside a lot so in cold months that is very important. I would not hesitate to purchase these again.

They are not lying
October 02, 2011

I've had quite a few hiking shoes. Almost all of them suffer from either water-resistance, ventilation, or durability. These Moab are the first pair that aren't a letdown. These shoes ARE water resistant, as far as I can tell. I've been walking in the rain and wet tall grass without getting any moisture in the shoes (not sure about water-proof though, since I haven't really worn them in streams or rivers). Besides, they go well with my jeans and cargo pants, making them suitable for everyday ware. Btw I have the Beluga color scheme. Pricey, yes; but I do expect many more years out of them. Highly recommended if you are looking for water-resistant/water-proof shoes that also have good breath-ability. It's my first Gore-Tex product, so guess I'll see how the water-resistance holds up. There is a Wikipedia article about this fabric, along with some good maintenance info. Definitely worth checking that out.

Pros: durable, good-looking, water resistant
Cons: a little expensive

October 01, 2011

These shoes are extremely comfortable and look great! I have been wearing them for a few weeks now and they continue to be extremely comfortable. I use them for work, general walks, and trail hikes. Highly recommended. True to size. Extremely light weight.

GREAT ALL AROUND BOOT, BIG THUMBS UP!
September 26, 2011

I WORK AT AN AIRPORT ON SMALL A/C AND OUT IN THE SNOW AND RAIN IN THE NORTH EAST. THESE ARE MY FIRST CHOICE IF THE SNOW IS NOT DEEP AND THEY ARE THE WARMER OF ALL MY FOOT WEAR. I WEAR A NORMAL 100% COTTON SOCK. MY FEET SWEAT A LOT AND THEN THEY GET COLD, BUT NOT IN THESE GORE TEX MERRELLS. AND IN THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE NEVER HAD A WET FOOT. I ALSO HAVE A COLLAPSED ARCH IN 1 FOOT AND NOT MANY SHOES ARE COMFORTABLE, BUT THESE PASS THE TEST ON A 10 TO 12 HR. DAY FOR A GUY IN HIS EARLY 60'S! BUY EM AND YOU'LL BE HAPPY!

By fiance just keeps saying thank you
September 06, 2011

It's been a whole year since I bought these boots to replace my fiance's grungy Merrel's he's had for years. While he felt they were a bit clunky at first, it is his go-to footwear for anything active/outdoorsy that we do. The quality of this product is like no other. Whether we're treking through the woods back in New England, camping in Flagstaff, or doing yardwork in Phoenix these hiking boots can handle it all. Would buy these all over again, he just loves them.

Love this boot- this is my second pair
June 03, 2011

This is my "go to" hiking boot for most of my hikes. I hike in the mountains of New England almost every weekend. I find these boots to work for most of my hiking needs except back packing hikes. I have owned 3 pairs of the shoe version of this boot. Since I bought my first mid level Moab hiking boot I rarely wear my shoes. These are just as comfortable and light weight but give good ankle support. The best features of the boot are out of the box comfort with no break in period and their weight. The waterproofing meets most of my hiking needs but is not adequate for really wet conditions. The durability is average, the same as the shoe version. The tread is very good and provides great traction on the steep trails in New England. I used my first pair for 2-years before purchasing this pair. My first pair is still in good condition but the tread is starting to show some wear after many hikes. I would definitely recommend this boot

Pros: comfort, weight
Cons: average durability

Merrill Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boot
May 29, 2011

Like all other Merrill products I own, I am very happy with the way the shoes fit. I ordered 1/2 larger than I typically do for a better fit. The shoes appear to be well made, are extremely comfortable and very supportive. I also own a pair of Merrill hiking shoes that are not Gore-Tex and I can say it is worth spending the extra money to purchase the shoes with Gore-Tex as they are much cooler particularly after hiking for extending periods of time. These boots are excellent for long walks in the woods. Would probably get a heavier duty pair if rock/mountain climbing was the primary use.

Hike Away!
May 17, 2011

My husband LOVES these boots. They are perfect for the mountains and hills of Afghanistan. Light with good grip to help you keep and maintain your footing. They are durable and long lasting. When soldier are on their feet hours and hours at a time, roughing it thru such a treacerous and hot and cold climate. PERFECT! Get these if your command approves

Light Hiking Boot
April 10, 2011

I bought a pair of these to replace some older Dannon hiking boots. I wanted something lighter to go on summer hikes when I'm not backpacking, These boots were a logical choice. If anything they are too light to provide a lot of support in the ankle areas. But they are extremely light weight, and they support much better than low tops. The goretex makes them cooler while still being waterproof. I also ordered them in 13 wide, and that gave me lots of room for tows and my high instep. I would not recommend them for carrying a pack over rough terrain, but they work well for my easy trails.

Gore Tex and Chex Mix
February 02, 2011

Gore Tex and Chex mix are two main components of a great hiking trip. The local store supplied me with the chex mix and Altrec with the Gore Tex, and boy did they do it with style and ease! Before I talk about the shoe I must say that Altrec is my #1 site to buy the kind of equipment that can keep me happy and keep me active. Now the boots...the Merrell Moab XCR's are the ultimate hiking/trekking boot. They are mid height which gives needed support to the ankles, they are vented enough to keep your feet cool but at the same time these boots are water proof. I stuck my feet in a water puddle while caving over Fall break, totally submerged up to the tongue and my feet were as dry as the splash zone at SeaWorld after Willy died (RIP Free Willy)

December 29, 2010

I have used Merrell boots for years and cannot find a fault with any Merrell I've owned. Floating like a Butterfly
November 26, 2010

Concerned about fit (9W) so double socked for first hike (5 miles). Found myself fading from thoughts about the boots after a short time. Didn't think about boots again until nighttime. Removed the boots and had found no residual affects (foot blisters or soreness) from wearing in 90* weather all day. For shorter hike (2.5 miles) I tried the boot with single sock. Because of the boots breathable an lightweight construction I found them to be more comfortable than the previous day. Looking forward to a longer hike (10+ miles).
