Description

Iconic in the realm of outerwear shells, the Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket has led the performance-value standard for a decade; receiving the Backpacker Magazine 2010 Award for Best $100 Shell on the Market. Updated for 2011, this everyday and multi-sport jacket uses a Proprietary PreCip coating that offers 100% waterproof protection from the elements without sacrificing breathability, performance or durability. Updating its bi-component technology for 2011, the Precip is 50% more waterproof and 20% more breathable with ceramic particles added to the waterproof coating for even greater durability. Given an active cut with Angel-Wing Movement™ to prevent binding that allows for a full range of motion in the arms so the jacket doesn't ride up; underarm PitZips™ that extend into the body provide for aggressive venting. Sporting a full visibility roll-up hood with integral collar, this jacket also has a Driclime® lined chin guard that is moisture wicking. Stacked with performance detail, this foul weather jacket features a double storm flap over the zipper with snap/Velcro® closure, elastic draw cord hem, and slanted chest Pack pockets™ that can be easily accessed while wearing a pack. Rolling down into a compact package that easily stuffs into a pack or tote, the new Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket takes waterproof, breathable weather protection to a new level - going wherever your outdoor adventures take you.

Great rain jacket
May 15, 2012

The Precip is a great rain jacket. It's light and packs small, so its convenient to carry in your backpack. It is impervious to rain, and includes nice features like pit zips to release body heat and adjustable hood. I love the lime green color. All in all a great product.

Lightweight Rain Jacket
May 02, 2012

Light, comfortable and functional rain jacket. Nice features are the zippers under the arm pit and shape of the hood (which you can hide in the collar you want to). It fits true to size (I bought Medium and I'm 5'8" and fits perfect with enough space for a base layer). It also has several pockets and is out of a breathable material. I give the coat a thumbs up also because of the reasoanable price.

My son loves it
March 10, 2012

I bought this for my 13 year old son for his first camping trip. It rained twice during that trip but this jacket kept him completely dry. He took it off at night and all his clothes were dry underneath. The good thing is that there is no way for rain or water to seap in. Since that trip he also wears it on a casual basis and also wears to to school as it is usually windy. It is soon becoming his most used jacket.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, my son say it looks good on him

Repels water like non other. I have only had this jacket for a couple of weeks, but it performs excellent in the rain. I am 6'1" 200 lbs and the large fits perfectly...it is long enough in the back to cover my rear. I highly recommend this jacket!

Perfect Oregon Coast jacket
January 18, 2012

I purchased this jacket for my husband. He is very particular about his rain gear, and this jacket has met his high standards. We live on the Oregon Coast, and good rain gear is essential. This jacket not only looks great, but is very functional for heavy rain and strong winds. We were also impressed by the great service and quick delivery from Altrec.

BEST LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET
November 18, 2011

First of all, it has the quality of all Marmot products. It is a very lightweight jacket, the fit is true to size, for example I use a Small size in everything and I got the Small and this one fits me very well, I could still use a fleece or a softshell base layer without sacrificing the range of motion in the arms. The breathability and durability are excellent, it is water resistant, not waterproof, because it is a very lightweight jacket, not designed to be a bombproof jacket. I bought this jacket because It has excellents features and it has his own stow pocket, it has a great packability, it is a very important point, I always take it wherever I am going. You could not go wrong with it.

Excellent Waterproof jacket
September 12, 2011

I had a Precip jacket for several years, but then lost it, so I bought a new one in Aug. 2011 to replace it. On the first day I wore the new jacket, I went to an outdoor event at which it started downpouring heavy rain. I stayed outside to see how the new jacket would work, and I was dry as a bone! The new model of the Precip seems to be much more waterproof than the prior model, and it does an excellent job of cutting the wind as well. For under $100, its hard to see how you could go wrong with this jacket. I use this as my regular jacket in the fall (as a windbreaker) and then use it for some of the wintertime with a soft shell underneath it. I also use this as a hard shell for climbing. Another nice feature of the jacket is that it has a hood that rolls up into the collar of the jacket, rather than just hanging off of the back. I strongly recommend this rain/wind jacket.

Best Rain jacket under $100
August 18, 2011

So I used this jacket for a 2 week trip in Europe and while out in Obed, TN for a climbing trip and so far it has not let me down. -Fit quality is very good and quite comfortable. -It does block wind very well but if is colder outside I do recommend another layer as the cold will slice through it pretty easily. -As for water protection, does the job extremely well. Kept me very dry. -One of my favorite features are the pockets. They are kept a bit higher so if your hiking with a backpack with hipbelts, the pockets are right above them so you can still keep your hands warm :). - Breathability is very good for the price range but still not as good as Gore-Tex. if it is hot outside with no breeze, it will get warm quick. For the price it is a no brainer. Recommend to anyone looking for the best price and performance combo rain jacket.

This rain jacket is recess proof
June 08, 2011

Although I've never been in a hurricane, I can say that this jacket stands up to Montana recess duty in the wind and rain. It also does a great job of keeping a person dry at Montana track meets in the spring....which sometimes means the track has to be snow plowed before the cold rain starts to fall for a track day of 45 degrees! I love this jacket and I think you will too.

Luvin my Men's Precip Jacket
March 24, 2011

I bought this jacket as an outer layer to break the wind and to keep my head and upper body dry in rainy conditions. It is perfect for keeping me dry and cutting the wind. It is surprising to me that a product can be so lightweight yet so strong. It has features such as the hood and underarm zips that really make it a valued purchase. Go getchya one.

Great Jacket
March 17, 2011

I love this Jacket. This is the second Precip Jacket that I had. I lost the first one while traveling. I like the jacket so much, I bought a replacement.

March 17, 2011

Great quality, I ordered XXL , as I am 225 lbs. The fit gives me a lot of room to wear a heavy sweater underneath. The color I ordered was red and it looked good.

Couldn't ask for better
January 12, 2011

Purchased PreCip pants and jackets for our trip to Alaska. 7 days of kayaking in the rain and cold of Prince William Sound. Very comfortable when paddling and at campsite; stayed completely dry; good ventalition; and very durable. We thought it would be ripped to shreds the way we went through the brush around our campsites, but it looks as good a new (who needs gaiters?!). We use the outfits as a windbreaker. Works well even in 20-30 mph gusts.

I would recommend the marmot precip jacket to anyone who is lookig for a lightweight, functioinal three season jacket. One might be a little concerned with the durability ofthe jacket it tough situations, but the weight and packability of the jacket make it a great value. Another product that lives up to the marmot name.

Good piece to always have around
December 01, 2010

Everyone going outdoors should have one of these, or something like it. Nice to always throw in the pack - pretty durable, pretty waterproof, pretty windproof, sorta breathable (use the pit zips), good price. The best part is that you can get these in Long sizing, which really helps for taller folks. Then you don't get the sleeves riding up your arms when raising them, like when rock climbing.

Does the job at a great price
November 19, 2010

I used this in driving 50 mph wind and rain during an offseason climb up Mt. Fuji - worked great. I was bone-dry after 8 hours in this miserable weather. Tends to be a little large, but you need to account for what layers you are wearing under it. I'm 5'11, 150 lb got a medium and it was a little loose for me

Lots to Like
November 01, 2010

One of the few waterproof jackets around that's available in a tall fit. Being tall I'm used to buying up a size to make sure I get the length - you definitely don't need to do that with this jacket as it's quite a loose fit. Really light and packable, if you're used to multi-layer waterproofs this may feel flimsy at first but I guess that's because it's light and packable! Not worn it in really heavy rain yet but has handled the light-medium stuff no problem. Worn it for cycling a couple of times and it seems to breathe OK although the loose fit means it offers a a fair amount of wind resistance, especially if I open the pit zips. The arrangement for folding the hood isn't particularly sophisticated but is handy nonetheless and consistent with the light-and-simple philosophy of this jacket. Overall I like it a lot and think I'll get another in a different colour.

appears well made, but i wonder how well it will hold up. my previous expeience has always been with gore-tex, so this feels "slight" by comparison. mesh pockets never bode well in my experience-they're prone to snagging (then tearing). seams all taped is a nice touch and i like being able to roll the hood up rather than having it hang down my back.

Another Marmot Rain Jacket in the family closet
September 28, 2010

This is by far a WINNER! Everyone in the family has one and it is true to size, comfort, wind and rain-proof. The jacket is available in a color for any mood or season; folds and packs well and it is a necessity in the traveler's gear bag.

Hood wont stay put
September 09, 2010

The hood is so roomy it wont stay put. Even casual walking with no wind...the hood flops up and down on my head. Forget about it when its windy. Wish there was drawstrings. Other than that its light, has great ventilation and has kept me dry in a downpour.

My favorite outdoor jacket-Marmot sets the industy standard
July 15, 2010

This preCip jacket is my third one I have purchased over the past 4 years. My family members seem to have claimed the other jackets.Since I have several pairs of Marmot men's PreCip pants,I never have to worry about the weather conditions outside. The jacket and the pants are constructed of the highest quality of materials and you know Marmot stands behind it products. Also,Altrec.com provides its customer with the total line of Marmot products and their website provides a totally updated description of new items. I feel it is important to mention the fact that the PreCip line is an excellent top layer of protection from the elements. When target shooting or hunting in the Fall,Winter & Sping I can alway add layers under the jacket. The attached hood provides plenty of room for a cap or bandero.

Very nice jacket
July 05, 2010

No complaints at all. I am 6'1" and weigh 230. XL fit great. Well made, high quality.

Excellent light weight waterproof jacket
April 15, 2010

Right out of the box I knew this jacket was a winner, but I decided to test it out anyway- by wearing it in the shower. The water rolled right off and the jacket was dry instantly. I have since used it under a variety of circumstances including 2 NY Nor'easters and each time it kept me and my electronic equipment completely dry, even after catastrophic umbrella failure. I've worn it on top of sweaters and t-shirts and it works great for both. I've worn it on my mountain bike and it kept me comfortable. I frequently roll it up tight and put it in my backpack just in case and it has come in quite handy (e.g. nor'easter #2). Just an awesome jacket. Only quibble is that I can't get the hood to roll neatly into the collar.

great jacket
April 09, 2010

I bought one for my wife and me and we both love it! While it is very lightweight, it protects you from the rain with no problem. I am now a Marmot fan!

Great jacket; great price
March 14, 2010

Marrot's PreCip jacket has it all; chest pockets and pit zips and an unbeatable price. Unlike many lightweight rain jackets, it is sized to fit over a fleece or lightweight down jacket. There are no seams on the shoulders that will come apart or leak from the pressure of a pack. It is light enough to be included in my lightweight backpacking kit. The PreCip breathable/waterproof membrane does the job at half the price of Goretex. I especially love the design of the hood that folds into a collar.

Great jacket great price

March 02, 2010

It's VERY light and packable, and fits well. Sometimes in the rain I feel a bit clammy inside, but I don't really have any other rain jackets to compare it to...

Great in Windy Weather
February 17, 2010

I've used this jacket out in low 40's windy weather. I was surprised how it kept me warm, even thought I was wearing just a t-shirt beneath the Precip Jacket. Plus the hood folds into the back collar.

Excellent product.
