Fit Tip

I wear an 11 in pretty much every shoe and this boot fit me well in size 11 for length. The toe box was a little tight but felt like it would stretch out and fit well after wearing the boots a couple times. Overall these boots fit standard.

Keen Targhee Mid
May 11, 2012

These are a fine boot. Great for everyday use as well as a dedicated trail shoe. I find that they fit fairly true to size. They are supportive, and keep your foot in place at all times. The waterproofing does work. You can submerge them and still have dry feet. I havn't had them long, so i cannot comment on their durability, but they do seem to have a good build quality. Another good thing is that they require very little break in.

Pros: waterproof, comfortable

These were my first pair of KEENs that I purchased for work. They are so comfortable that I think I will only wear KEENs from now on. I found the shoes to be true to size and I didn't need to order a half size up.

Great Product
March 24, 2012

First time buying Keen shoes. Very satisified. A little snug in my size could have used a half size larger as others suggest , but are not too small. Will order half size larger next time for a little more wiggle room. I am 61 years old and wanted a good quality shoe for packpacking, hiking and general town walking. This shoe will foot the bill, no pun intented.

Pros: light wieght, good support, nice stying
Cons: run a little small

Excellent Shoe
January 07, 2012

This is a fantastic shoe. Very comfortable and it's the only pair I have that doesn't make my feet hurt. They are such a great shoe, I'm buying another pair. The only set back is they aren't German Shepherd teeth resistant, hence the new pair.

Mens Keen Targhee mid
December 31, 2011

After having these in women's models for the past three years and loving them, I convinced my husband to try a pair. He absolutely loves them. Good fit, wide toe box, comfortable, good traction in snow and comfortable. What more could you ask for? Another convert for Keen Targhee mid boots! ( They do run about a half size small, so take that into consideration when ordering)

Pros: waterproof, comfortable, wide toe area

This shoe fits 1/2 size small. I am 5.11 and weigh 175 pounds and U usually wear men's size 10 but the keens size 10 1/2 fit just about right. These are very comfortable shoes just like my other ASLO FX backpacking shoes I used to wear before.

Most comfortable boots ever
December 21, 2011

I purchased the Targee II Mid hight boots last January and have worn them for work just about every day since. This is my forth consecutive pair of Keens and I've liked all of them. They are simply the most comforable rugged waterproof boots I've ever worn. I'm getting ready to buy a new pair. That is the down side, they do wear out quick, but when you wear them every day, I guess that is expected. My older pairs of Keens were even better than the new ones with the Keen Dry system, but they both keep your feet dry. It just seems the older Dry system breathed a little better.

Pros: comfort, very good waterproofing, did i mention "comfort"
Cons: tread wears quick in urban setting

Nice Boot
December 14, 2011

Light weight, supportive boot. Comfortable right out of the box. Breathes well and lining keeps feet dry. Ordered same size I normally wear in other boots (ll.5), and they were a little snug with thick winter weight wool socks, but not bad (I have extra wide feet). Some might consider ordering up half size if you're prone to foot swelling on long hikes. I liked the secure fit and feel of the heel lacing that kept my foot in place without any sliding or rubbing. I'm planning on using these for every day use and day hiking.

Pros: comfortable, secure fit, nice looking, roomy toe box, very light
Cons: sole a little stiff

Nice boot order half to one size larger
November 22, 2011

FIrst experience was a very technical hike in western North carolina; about 10 miles the boot performed very well, light wieght water proof technically sound; only problem , it was 1/2 a size too small. I usually wear 10.5 to 11 depending on shoe so I ordered 11. ended up with bruised toes. toe box is relatively small sent the used pair back and ordered 11.5 that fit ok; no worry returns awesome feature.

Pros: light weight, waterproof
Cons: order size larger than normal

keen boots
October 11, 2011

These keen boots fit to your normal sizes. Normal size 10.5 and ordered the same. They feel broken in the first time you put them on your feet. They came as "dry" and unlike many other dry but not gore-tex brands, these boots hold up to their boast by keeping my feet dry in a dew covered morning stroll through the grass. I loved them the first day I wore them and would recommend them to all. i really like the front wrap around toe guard and i plan on disc-golfing in these boots all winter long. Thanks, another repeat customer.

Men's Targhee II Mid Hiking Boot Review
October 06, 2011

This is the third pair of Targhee's that I have owned. I absolutely love the fit and feel of the boot. I wear them daily for office/field work/walks on pavement and they feel great. My only complaint is that the sole is soft; thus, it wears fairly quickly. The leather also wears somewhat quickly. If you weart the boot daily and don't mind purchasing annually, this is a great mid ankle boot.

Pros: fit and feel
Cons: Wears quickly

September 25, 2011

I really like Keen's big toed designs, they offer roomy comfort for my stinky pinkies. My other Keen's are high top water shoes, my favorite. It's too early to tell if these are truly waterproof but I am happy with the construction, details and color. We'll see how they hold up!

Pros: comfortable

The Best Hiking boot ever!
September 14, 2011

I have two pairs of these and I bought these for my husband. He loves them. I wear them everywhere because they are so comfortable right out of the box, they are warm, waterproof, and I have travelled to Scotland & Yellowstone with these. They are so lightweight! The only thing wierd with Keen's is there inconsistancy in sizing. In a work shoe my husband wears a 9.5, In the winter boots he wears a 10 and in these he wears a 10.5. Although I am a straight 6.5 across the board with all Keens and I have many different styles. My mom normally wears a 7 in all shoes but in these she wears an 8.5 so you may have to try them on somewhere and then but them from Altrec because you can't beat their prices. Or they have a pretty easy return policy I just wish they let you print off prepaid labels.

Great Work Shoes
September 09, 2011

I live in Michigan and bought these shoes for work. The fall and spring can get very wet here and the shoes amazingly kept my feet perfectly dry. The Keen dry system is no joke. I was using a power washer to clean a house and would at times be spraying directly on the shoes and my feet never got wet. Very comfortable, even when I had to be on my feet all day. Love this shoe. I will never buy a different shoe to work in. One issue was the durability of the shoe. It lasted a little over a year and then started to rip apart at the seems and the sole wore out significantly. A bit of a concern for the price of the shoe.

Pros: waterproof, comfortable

Get it right the first time!!!!
August 23, 2011

I live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Durango, Colorado. The majority of my free time is spent fly-fishing and bowhunting. Most of my life I have just worn bulky hunting boots for my backpacking or trekking up and down the mountains during hunting season. This year I decided to try out some light-weight hiking boots...my first pair of hiking boots ever. After much research, and talking to avid hikers here in Durango, I decided to purchase the Keen Targhee II Mid Hiking Boots. Right out of the box these boots are crazy comfortable! There was almost no break-in period for these boots. I've spent the last 3 weekends hiking for hours in the mountains in almost every kind of terrain and weather (rocky, grassy, steep, flat, dry, muddy, rainy, hot, cold) and these boots are awesome! They're so light that I could easily tell a difference in how they increased my stamina over using heavy hunting boots, and they are so comfortable that my feet (and my back, most importantly!) felt great even after hours of non-stop walking. If you are looking for a pair of awesome hiking boots, then buy these and you will GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!

The Only Boot My Husband Wears!
August 07, 2011

My husband has a lawn care service and his boots have to be able to take daily exposure to wet grass and provide stability when weed-eating banks and rough terrain. He has tried several other well-known brands and was unsatisfied with either the comfort or the ability of the boot to hold up under his working conditions. I ran across the Keen Targhee II and he has used them ever since. He loves the out of the box comfort of the boot. They have a wide toe box, are a perfect height, and keep his feet dry. They also have laces that lock in at the top and never loosen or have to be re-adjusted during the workday. I can attest to their comfort as I bought myself a pair too. Buy them; you won't regret it.

Pros: comfort, waterproof, durable, wide toe box

Long-time Targhee II Mid Tredder
June 21, 2011

I have had several pairs of Targhee II Mid Hiking Boots, which have kept my feet happy for many years now. The extra roominess in the toe area is my favorite part. Before I discovered Keen Footwear, I regularly got sores under the inside of my big toenails from the inward pressure most shoes put on one's toes. But after about a month or two of wearing Keens, my toe problem cleared up and has not returned! What a relief! The two loops on each boot tend to catch my pant legs and prevent them from hanging freely, so I just cut them off as soon as I get a new pair. I then gently melt the ends of the cuts to stop them from getting frayed. It takes only a couple of minutes and has not caused me any problems so far (and I can't imagine how it could). But that's only my personal preference. I'm sure others really like and/or need the loops. The laces tend to wear out before the boots do, but this could probably be avoided by periodically relocating the laces in relation to the eyelets. (Now that I've written that tip, I'd better make sure I do it with my next pair!) They do not resole very gracefully (I tried it with one pair by having a patch put over the worn spot), but it nevertheless it can be done. Have your shoe repairer try to match the texture of the original sole for the best results. I also own a pair each of the Keen Voyageur and Oregon PCT and am pleased with both of them. No "break in" period was needed for any of the three models mentioned here. If I sound like a loyal Keen customer, it's because I am.

Pros: roominess, more support from the mid, no "break in" required
Cons: they wear out a bit soon, loops not necessary

Great Boots
May 10, 2011

Run true to size. No break in period required at all. I have hiked several 14ers in them and have never gotten a blister. One hike was 15+ miles in a day with lots of elevation gain. These are great boots, even carrying loads of 40+ pounds. When this pair wears out I will be buying then again. I would highly recommend them.

Low heel height
May 02, 2011

I bought these as a gift for my father, along with 2 other light/mid hiking boots. They appeared to have the classic Keen strong toe protection, but when he tried them on, the heel height was noticeably lower. They also seemed wide (though my father has admittedly narrow feet). I think they are a solid boot in terms of tread and toe protection, but if you want more ankle support, look elsewhere.

Great light hiker
May 02, 2011

The upper is solid, made of durable nylon and leather. Looks very sharp on the foot. The midsole is very comfortable, with a decent nylon shank to reduce impact on the foot with excellent flexibility. Love the keen rounded toe-box for squared off toes like mine. Overall width is medium, with a medium heel and wider toe-box. Good for low to medium volume feet, but low volume in toes. This is NOT a wide boot, but people with wide feet might wear it well if they size up. I have low volume feet but still felt the need to size up half a size. After measuring the inside of the boot, it is no shorter than any other shoe - however, this is because the toe of the boot extends a little beyond the footbed. There isn't much room at the tip, so most people will probably feel more comfortable with a half-size up. This may make it a little loose in the heel/ankle for some, but the boot can be cinched down pretty tight over the foot. The boot is very waterproof, but breathes poorly and is hotter than average. The lugs are soft and grip well on gravel paths but wear down fast, especially if using on concrete surfaces. The larger lugs don't bite well on wet slick surfaces like ice or wet wood. Overall an excellent light hiker good for dayhikes with light loads. Not recommended for backpacking, as it isn't supportive enough for heavy loads.

Pros: rounded toe-box, good lacing, waterproof, lightweight, supportive
Cons: hot, grip so-so, odd sizing

Comfy hicking boots or winter walking boots
March 29, 2011

They, like most keen boots are extremely comfortable right out of the box. They don't require any breakin. Husband used these to walk the dogs all winter and they worked great. The only issue with them is that the top of the show the laeces are looped through fabric holes instead of a metal eye to secure the laces. I see long term durability issues with this design. If they made these metal it would be a 5 star product.

Pros: comfortable, warm (for winter)

Now my husband loves them too!
March 25, 2011

I am a huge keen targhee fan and now I've got my husband hooked too! He usually takes a 10.5 or 11.0 in other shoes, but he actually takes a 12 in this shoe. The last pair of keen targhees he tried were an 11.5, but he found that his toes on one foot were getting cold in the winter. The size 12 doesn't look any bigger, but seems to give him that little bit extra room that he needs. He has VERY wide feet but find that these fit well. He loves that they are comfy right out of the box. Just the best shoes!

EXCELLENT BOOT
March 22, 2011

This is the second pair of Targhee II mid boots that I own. I have a high arch and these shoes fit very well. Lots of toe space. I do feel that they run about a half size small. The keen dry works very well. I'm sure I will purchase another pair. I have nothing negitive to say about the shoes, and believe me if I did you would here about it.

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had! They felt great out of the box and there was no need for a break in period. Went through a 17 mile hike in these and they were great! If they didn't look so much like hiking boots, I'd wear these all the time.

Great shoe so far
March 08, 2011

I have had 3 pairs of keens now and these seem to follow the Keen tradition in comfort and foot protection. I bought them because I needed a boot to keep snow from getting into my shoes. For the most part its worked pretty well. Did a 2 hour hike in 2 feet deep snow and only got a minimal amount of snow in. However, it should be noted that I used gaiters that were part of my ski pants as extra security. For every day wear around town even after fresh snow fall, its been a great boot too. I haven't noticed any issues with the non-water-proofness that other reviews have mentioned but then again I haven't really put it into water. Seems to hold up well in moderate rain and snow though. About the sizing: I actually did go up one half size for this. I was able to try on an 8 (which I wear in all my other keen shoes) and 8.5 and ultimately the 8.5s did feel better.

Targhee - funny name!
March 07, 2011

These are very comfortable boots for light hiking and winter use. I'm normally a size 10.5 and had to get an 11 in these boots. I don't know if this is a consistent size difference for all. I have other Keen shoes and the sizing is all over the place. Keens are truly a shoe you must try on for correct size. I'm very happy with these shoes.

Right out of the box win!
March 01, 2011

I do not usually come back and write reviews but in this case I felt I should for the Targhee II Mid Hiking Boot. I must say the other reviews on this site for the Targhee were great and helped me with the sizing. A few of the reviews said to "Half" size up which I did. I'm 5'10 205lbs usually a size 9 shoe but ordered the 9.5 This was a good call. Right out of the box the boot is comfortable like it's been worn in already excellent support and do not feel clunky. I live in the North East US and have been using these for mostly city walking through snow and ice. These boots keep my feet dry and warm. The design and engineering of this boot is very cool.

Couldn't wait to try these out. Took the dog out hiking in the snow and ice and was very pleased with how I could climb up icy inclines without slipping. Great tread. Comfortable right out of the box as usual with Keens. I also like the lacing lock at the top of the ankle. If the laces come loose, the shoe still remains snug. Great product.
