Transitioning from town to trail is a breeze in the Klamanth Mid; stiffer than the Targhee, but not as much support as the Oregon PCT hiking boot. sore foot relief
January 16, 2012

After a year of daily use at work - on my feet, in and out of smooth and rough walking suface conditions - these are finally wearing out. The quality and comfort are excellent, but what has sold me most is the fit of these shoes. At age 60, my feet have begun to change - and not for the better, I have to say. I have never had to wear a particularly wide shoe, but one foot is developing a particularly ugly bunion, and both tend towards heavy plantar calluses. The wide toe box of Keens in general, and these in particular, makes being on my feet all day bearable and even fun. Good arch support has mostly eliminated formerly nagging sciatic issues. Hard to ask for much more!

Great boot -- though return was necessary
November 13, 2011

I recently bought from Altrec a pair of Keen Klamath hiking boots, size 13 menÂ’s, as a replacement for a pair whose inner lining wore out. I was forced to go from 12s to 13s and to try a boot with a nice, roomy toebox -- which the Klamath offers -- during recovery from foot surgery (bilaterial cheilectomy) over a year ago. The Klamath is a great boot: without doubt, the most comfortable IÂ’ve ever had, largely because it places no lateral pressure on the big toe. Other than protecting them, it leaves my toes alone. It even gives them room to spread slightly when I take a stride. Before wearing these, IÂ’d probably never been properly shod before in my life. The boots wore out in a little over a year, but I wear them constantly, so I have no complaint about that. Downside: the pair I received had a defect -- inside lining was buckled in roof of toebox in left boot, causing boot to press somewhat against top of toes. I had no problem with the Altrec returns process, sent off the defective pair from a FedEx office yesterday, and am ordering another pair from Altrec (same boot) as soon as my return is confirmed.

Pros: very comfortable

Solid Buy
July 07, 2011

This is my second pair of Keen shoes. I've hiked about 15 miles and pavement-walked another 20 in these boots. I think these boot are sturdy and comfortable. They offer good ankle support in rougher terrain, and the wide toe box is good for my odd shaped feet (hammer toes). All I've ever worn in the past were trail shoes and not boots, and you might find these a little heavier. You certainly feel the difference after 8 miles or so. But, the fact that they are so hard on the outside and soft and dry on the inside balances out. They stay dry, and yet I haven't had an issue with my feet getting sweaty or needing breathing. And as I read from other reviews before buying these, I also found the tongue is a little weird. Because it's sown together with the outside and not left loose, it doesn't tuck like I'm used to. It bothered me the first time I wore them, but they're pretty well broken in now and I don't notice it.

Pros: support, comfort
Cons: possibly heavy

My favorite boot... :)
May 04, 2011

I am a big Keen fan and these boots may be the best of the best of my Keen collection. These boots fit great out of the box. Interesting is that several of my friends also showed up with the same boot and the same conclusion without even talking to each other. I will buy the same boot in the future and thankful that once Keen gets a winner they stay with it for all us satisfied members of their fraternity. Thank you Keen.

Pros: good fit, style, water proof

Good Solid Boot
April 23, 2011

I've had these boots for about 8 months now, hiked several of the Inca ruins in Peruvian Andes, did a winter camping trip in PA with them and lots of regular day hikes. So far they have been very comfortable, good ankle support, lots of room in the toe and seem to be pretty durable. They are a bit warm so better suited for cooler temps. Only complaint is that the design of the toe is large and makes them look a bit like clown shoes but if you're not concerned about aesthetics a very good boot.

Pros: comfortable, durable
Cons: not the best looking boot

Quite Happy
February 03, 2011

Rcvd my Keen Klamanth Mids about a week ago and they haven't left my feet. Admittedly it's 20 below here in CO or I'd be out hiking. But time for that. One thing i wanted to stress was the sizing. Of course others comment on the fact they consistently run a 1/2 size small. I took their advice and ordered up 1/2 size. Glad i did. I placed the shoes sole-to-sole with a pair of Nike running shoes, which tend to run abt a qtr of a size small. The Nike's were 10.5 Men. Sure enough, the Keen's, size 11, were exactly the same length. A clue to this quality control problem may be in Keen's sizing chart and the shoe tag show American 11 being equivilent to Eur 44.5, when in fact Eur44.5 equates to 10.5. Thanks to forums like this the buyer's can be advised and money saved all around shiping them back for re-sizing up. Anyhow, great shoe. i will be climbing some fourteeners in them. Finally, Altrec Exec's! Pack your bags! You could justify a nice expense-paid trip to China to wise them up on the sizing! Of course by now everyone knows their sizing is off. You'd hv to spend millions in some ad campaign announcing the Chinese finally got it right. "Keen's...It's Okay...Order your true size now!"

What I expected, great Keen quality
February 02, 2011

I've owned close to a dozen pair of Keen shoes and sandals and the Klamath Hiking Boot did not disappoint. It has the same right out of the box fit that other Keen shoes have but give a lot more ankle support than my other boots. They also seem to be a bit heavier, but didn't seem to cause any additional fatigue. Altrec service was superb!

Great hiking boot
February 01, 2011

This is my first hiking boot from Keen and I really love this boot. It is all-round hiking boot for general hiking purpose. Great cushioning, big toe box, and great ankle support. But this shoe runs one size small (according to keen website), so you have to make sure you need to order one or half size up. Strongly recommend for your next hiking boot :)

great boot, narrow toe box
January 11, 2011

Boot seems solidly constructed, good materials. Comfortable out of the box, except they are narrow at ball (max width) of foot. Even slightly above average left foot narrow, wider right unacceptable. For a company with a reputation of fitting wider than average, these boots, although seemingly great otherwise, are too narrow. Will shop for other Keen boots, as I have one winter pair that is fantastic.

Awesome!
December 19, 2010

This was my first purchase from Altrec, and I couldn't be happier. I placed the order on a Saturday afternoon online, and the boots had already shipped by Sunday morning, and i got them by Friday. I was very pleased. As far as the boots themselves go, I LOVE them. This is my first pair of Keen shoes, and so far I have no complaints. I read other reviews before buying that they run smaller, but I ended up ordering my normal size and they fit perfectly. It did take wearing them about 4 times or so to get them broken in for me, but after that they've been perfect. Very good ankle support, and the stiffness of the sole is just right. They feel very sturdy and my feet don't shift around inside. The looks of the boot are killer, which was the original attraction for me. Overall, an excellent choice.

Great Boots
November 24, 2010

I have a lot of trouble with finding good boots because of many ankle surgeries in the past and these were a delight to find. I need good support and these boots delivered excellent support. Nice roomy toe box and they are really comfortable while both walking around town and doing moderate to strenuous hiking with a pretty heavy photo backpack.

Great boot
November 23, 2010

My first Keen hiking boot, so I didn't know quite what to expect. I was very pleased to see outstanding quality in materials and construction. Very comfortable, with good sole stiffness for backpacking. I've only had them a short while, so I can't comment on durability, but they appear to be made as rugged as any other top name-brand.

Keen always has top products, these boots are light with the right amount of support and stiffness for trails. I've used them on three treks and have no regrets. Remember Keen is like a half size bigger so drop a half size, I've had several Keen shoes over the years and like them.

Comfort for walking miles and miles
November 06, 2010

These shoes are very good for feet that walk miles anywhere. Got these for a friend cause he walked miles every day at his job. He had heel pain from all the walking. When he put on these, he was surprised that they did not need any breaking in. He said his heel pain was gone in a week and he only wears keen shoes, even on the weekends. Isn't that KEEN!

Pros: Great design, Performance, no breaking in period

Short Stuff...ed
November 04, 2010

Like other reviews, I found the shoe runs a half size too short. Because this is consistently true, you have to figure Keen has a QC problem (this has occurred with other Keen shoes I have). The shoe is also stiff but supportive and the construction is stout. I think they might break in over time. Unfortunately, Keen used an excessive amount material on either side of the tongue and placed too much padding in the tongue to the point the shoe feels bulky or fat. The tongue also bunches up because of the excessive material leaving a lumpy feeling when you tighten the shoe. The shoe may get better with wear but I just couldnÂ’t stand wearing it and there are too many other comfortable choices like the Asolo FSN 95 that feel great right out of the box.

October 30, 2010

I have a pair of Keen Boots already and love them. When I saw the price on these I had to have them. The service from gear store was superior with the boots arriving within a week. The boots are as I thought they would be...well built for wet outdoors. They felt quite comfortable right out of the box. A very slight stiffness from being new but went away quickly after wearing them a few days. I have found that all keen boots I have purchased have been very comfortable to wear.

Excellent Do-It-All Boots
October 13, 2010

I am usually very skeptical about buying hiking boots from online stores but took a chance with Keen after reading the reviews. The reviews were right. Keen Klamath does run a tad smaller than your average hiking boots. I found this to be true: For this particular model ( Klamath ), you should order the SAME SIZE as your running shoes/sneakers. I found this pair of boots requires no break-in at all. It is pure comfort right out of the box. The traction is excellent due to the boots' deep lugs and it looks awesome even with a pair of khakis. It is easy on my feet, waterproofing is great, and keeps my feet nice and toasty!! An excellent choice for Fall and Winter seasons... and anything in between!!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, comfort, waterproof

Outstanding boot
August 30, 2010

Extremely comfortable boot. Wore them right out of the box in a torrential rainstorm. Excellent traction and stayed dry. Did buy them a half size bigger as others noted. Liked them so much I bought a another pair for my 13-year-old son for hiking on the AT in the fall.

good feel

Comfortable Boot!
May 25, 2010

Love Keen footwear! Have a pair of the sandals...they are as comfortable as footwear comes! The Klamath is no exception. I've had it out on the trail with no issues. Don't even notice the boot is on my foot. Granted, I haven't had it out yet in really hot weather, but so far no blisters, great fit, and wonderful grip on slippery roots and rocks. I normally wear a 9.0, but tried this on at retail shop before buying at Altrec and wear a 9.5, so it does run small.

john bennett

Very comfortable and durable
May 23, 2010

Very little break-in period with these Klamath boots. Comfortable and a very stable feeling while hiking.

GREAT EVERYDAY BOOT
May 06, 2010

IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO WEAR THESE TO WORK LIKE I CAN THESE WILL BECOME YOUR GO TO BOOTS FOR EVERYTHING. I DON'T HIKE BUT DO ALOT OF WALKING WITH MY DOG ON ALL SURFACES AND APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT THESE OFFER.THIS IS MY SECOND PAIR OF KLAMATHS AND MY FIFTH PAIR OF KEENS. I HAVE A WIDE FOREFOOT AND HIGH ARCH AND THESE FIT GREAT.DEFINITELY ORDER A SIZE UP.

What a fit!!!
April 27, 2010

These boots are absolutely the best I've ever worn. Nice big toe box with plenty of space for my toes to wiggle around. The arch support is a little high for my foot but I will adjust to that. There is little heel lift on one boot but I'm sure that will go away as I break these boots in. I had read that the size on these boots run about 1/2 size small. So I ordered a half size up and they fit perfectly lengthwise. Width wise, I am semi flat footed and have a wide instep. A lot of medium width boots are too narrow for me and a lot of wide boots are too wide. Too narrow and I get pressure from the sides and the bottom of my foot begins to burn. Up until now, Merrells have been the best fitting for my foot. At first I thought the Keens were weird looking but after trying on some, my perspective changed. Summer is just around the corner and I do a lot of day hiking so I will be testing durability in the coming months. I'm also a docent at a local State Park in the Sierras and I'm sure the trails will put these boots to the test.

Good boot that takes wear and tear well
April 22, 2010

On my second pair and these boots are my new favorite. Big toe box, snug heel. Overall good fit. Waterproof membrane works well. Better sole than the Targhee II. Hot boot in warm to hot outside temps.

love em
April 19, 2010

I love these boots.I haven't hiked anywhere yet but they feel great. I think they look cool. They run a half size small.

So far So good - (Four day hikes old)
April 13, 2010

Started hiking about 9 years ago. Day hike at least once a week in Ga and NC, average day 12-15 miles. Owned 5 different 'name brand' boots and haven't loved any of them (so far). These are the most comfortable and have a tread I like. My wife bought Targhee's earlier this year and tells everyone how much she loves them. I wanted/like a slightly heavier boot and the Klamath seems perfect.

Light weight and superior support
April 06, 2010

These were an excellent find. It sounds impossible but they are very light weight and totally solid support. I'm not sure how they did it but I'm glad they did and you will too if you buy them. Needed two days of break-in and now very comfortable.

Don Collinsworth

great boot
March 03, 2010

Keen always makes a good product. The grip of the sole is better than the Targhee and much stiffer. Good for heavier packs. The only complaint is that it is wider on my foot and must wear another sock to fit right. as always delivery was great.

Picky Husband Loves These Boots.
February 19, 2010

I bought these Keen boots for my husband and he loves them. He is so picky. He wears them everyday. He loves the comfort, the fit, and durability, and not to mention how great they look with his casual wardrobe. They run true to size.

Excellent Boot
January 10, 2010

This is my second pair of Keen boots. Last pair I bought were the Targhee II. The Klamath boots are similar in appearance to the Targhee boot but the Klamath is much more of a hiking boot. It is a bigger boot all around. It is still very comfortable out of the box however. If you are looking for a lite hikng boot go with the Kalmath. If you are looking for an around town boot I would go with the Targhee.

Kay

Very Happy with my puchase
December 31, 2009

I bought these as a gift. They looked great and fit well. We are all pleased and would highly recommend for hiking or just kicking around. Very durable and not too bulky. Lightweight and good-looking.

good boot. KEEN does a fine job.
December 30, 2009

I would recommend just about any KEEN product. They tend to be well made. You need to get one size or half size bigger than normal, especially if you wear hiking socks.

Great Pair of Boots
December 29, 2009

These boots have served me well in the mountains of Taiwan. Durable, light, warm and dry. All that you want in a hiking boot.

Comfortable right out of the box
December 28, 2009

This is my 5th pair of Keen shoes but my first pair of Klamath boots...the fit for my foot is very comfortable as I have a narrow heel and flat foot, medium width so I buy my actually shoe size and the fit is excellent...I went on 10 mile, paved, walk my 2nd day wearing the shoes and I felt great no excessive pain in my legs, back , knees, toes, ankles or arches and that is what I call comfortable.. I also have wore the shoes in rain and snow and feet stay dry, the only negative I have experienced with Keen shoes is sometimes the soles wear faster than I would want but would a better wearing sole be as comfortable ?

Great Boot
December 26, 2009

Very comfortable boot. Had to order a 1/2 size larger but a good fit. Would order again.
