Description

From hiking the slot canyons of Zion to scrambling up the sand dunes of Death Valley, the Keen Men's Arroyo II Light Hiking Shoes have the heavy duty support and protection of hiking footwear with the amazing comfort and breathability of a sandal. Fully machine washable, these Keen shoes have supple leather uppers that mold to your feet and a drawcord lacing system that makes for easy on and off in camp or at the front door. A soft nylon and mesh lining uses Aegis Microbe Shield® technology to keep odor-causing bacteria at bay.

Leave those flat-bottomed flip flops at home and give your feet the support and protection they need when hiking over rough terrain. These hiking sandals use an ESS shank for torsion stability and the S3 midsole provides heel support and shock absorption. A non-marking rubber outsole with aggressive lugs on these Keen sandals grip wet rocks, muddy banks and rugged trails with ease.

Keen advises these wide shoes run a teeny bit big, but that just means you'll have fewer hot spots and the versatility to slip on a pair of thick wool socks in camp. Hike the desert trails and find cross-country solitude with the protection and comfort of the Keen Arroyo II Light Hiking Shoes for men.

Early Review
April 11, 2012

I have only had the shoes for a week but have been on two hikes of about three miles each. I ordered a half size smaller than my normal shoe size and that seems about right. I am not crazy about the lacing system for a hiking shoe but am adjusting to it. So far they have felt very good on the trail with no hot spots.

Pros: good support, great keen quality
Cons: lacing system

Great hiking sandal
March 16, 2012

I really like the Newport sandals, flag ship shoe of Keen, but wanted something for more demanding terrain and use. The Arroyo is it. Great foot support and stability. Supports like a shoe, walks like a light hiking boot, breathes like a sandal, though a bit warmer to wear than the Newport. Nonetheless, they will be good for summer weather. Am confident they will work well as a multipurpose shoe, even at the river, including in a canoe. Look good, too. have worn them on the weekends since getting delivery. They are my weekend shoe, for sure, regardless of where I go.

Pros: stability, support, comfort all day

Great hybrid sandal
March 16, 2012

I was never able to use orthopedics with my previous keen sandal. Hiking with this new sandal will be a real boon to my feet with all the arch support. I love this sandal in every respect.

Pros: great arch support, can use orthopedics, can use in hiking, washable

Great Keens
October 07, 2011

These Keens are very comfortable, and great style. They have a good air flow to them but the feet still a little sweaty. Great soles, and grip. No slipping.

Pros: comfort and grip

best all around sandals
October 05, 2011

These are by far some of the best shoes I've been wearing. Very light, comfortable and they dry fast when they get wet. I went through two pairs already and plan to buy another one. The only minor issue is that the glue keeping the sole to the upper part is not the best quality and after a while you need to add some more to keep them together. But this happens after heavy use.

A heavier member of the Keen family
October 01, 2011

These are great summer hikers. The superb arch support, cut outs for ventilation, and heavy-duty sole and toe protection make them great shoes for general hiking, tromping over uneven terrain or rocks, and walking on cement city streets. They are not light-weight as the name may suggest, however. These are the most heavy pair of the 4 different types of Keens I own. But for the purpose of "hiking", they can not be beat. The size seems true, and as with most Keens, they have a roomy toe-box.

Pros: perfect for 3 seasons
Cons: not for winter

August 28, 2011

My first lasted forever. Finally retired them for these. Perfect fit! Stlye and comfort. I normally need wide sizes but with keen they fit me great. Never an issue with the fit and comfort.

Great trail sandal
August 24, 2011

Just got my second pair. First pair started to have sole separation (easily re-glued), but they had been subjected to lots of off-trail use on rugged ground--not the usual habitat of sandals. These are very comfortable, light but sturdy and accommodate my orthotics easily. The design protects the feet well. Highly recommended. I wish Keen could be consistent in sizing, even within the same model--I have another type of Keen shoes, and the sizing is different enough to require an exchange.

Great Shoes
August 22, 2011

The shoe quality and comfort appear to be exceptional. At 6'6" tall I normally require a size 16 for athletic shoes. This trail shoe is one size too large and I will return it for a size 15.

Pros: durable, comfortable
Cons: sized large

Great water/hiking shoe!
June 16, 2011

I bought these for my dad as he is a rock hound and spends a lot of time searching for agates in streams and lake shores. These provide him with great protection without weighing him down. He loves them!

June 14, 2011

I've been wearing Keens for over 5 years now and will continue to wear them daily. They are the most comfortable shoes I own and are very durable. Altrec delivered them to me on time and gave me a good price. I'll be back!

Good quality shoe
May 12, 2011

The Arroyo II light has the same feel as the Keen sandals and Keen hiking boots that I have loved for years. I bought them because they offer a little more protection for your toes than the sandals but still let my feet feel the air. But be aware that they run large. I am 6' 2" and 170 lbs and my sandals and hiking boots are 10.5 however I needed a 9.5 in the Arroyo II.

Fantastic
April 23, 2011

Even though I'm on my 3rd pair of Newport - size 9, these Arroyo II's - size 8.5 are super comfortable; yes, a half size smaller! They provide the usual great supportive footbed and the uppers have enough give to allow for a wide foot and high arch. My work place requires a shoe that has a solid back. The Arroyo II combines the look of a light hiking shoe with some of the attributes of a sandal. They are light weight and good looking. My feet don't feel exhausted at the end of the day. I've worn them now every day for a week. The lace material is a little different from the Newport sandal; it does not stretch but does do the job. I would get my usual size 9 if I wanted to wear socks with the Arroyo II.

Pros: versatility, airy feel of a sandal.

Different Construction of these shoes!
April 08, 2011

Having had 2 pairs of the former model name that is exactly like the "Arroyo II", I found this pair a little larger at the width, doesn't hold my foot in as the former, and my heel slips a bit up and down in the shoe: All these not experienced from the former pairs. I work in these I swim in them and after 4 years of very, very respectable usage, will be retiring the first as they are so worn my ankle is now hurting when I walk as I am a side of the foot walker and shoe is really worn! I was going to get "Owyhee" this time, but those are definitely too wide and feel sloppy to my liking. So I will again order a new pair of "Arroyo II" from a cool company: ALTREC!!! Thanks for reading!

Pros: feel very strong!, airs out my stinky feet!, i swim in them, great hiking shoe!, very good wear
Cons: heel slips a bit!

These shoes look great and are fairly lightweight. With openings for breathability and closed in the back, I can wear them to work! I ordered my normal shoe size and they were rather large. Seems almost a full size too big. I am returning, yet definitely ordering the next smaller size.

Don't be mislead my by "nickname"! My other favorite product line is Keen wear. I have many of Keen's other footwear products and decided to try these light hikers, anticipating when Wisconsin winters would let up. I've only worn these around the house (so far - again, the Wisc winters ) but am please with both fit and finish quality. I "suffer" from wide feet with a high arch, making it difficult to find a shoe last that is consistantly available and comfortable. These shoes give me the same wide toe box and with the lacing pattern allow me to adjust the fit to my high arch/instep needs. Will update review when I've hiked out-of-doors.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value, wide toe box

First keen shoe...love it so far
January 29, 2011

This shoe is the best purchase I ever made. It is great for beach walking and biking my feet stay cool so the shoe doesn't slip around because of sweaty feet. There are 2 downsides first of all it does take a little more time to dry than I would like and the cinch cord is too long and slips out of the laces once in a while.

Pros: Ease of use
Comfort: 4 / 5
Durability: 5 / 5
Quality: 4 / 5

Sandal alternative for orthotics
January 09, 2011

I use orthotics and wanted a closed shoe with good breathability and a good tread that could be used on rough ground. Sandals don't offer the foot support I wanted, as they are too open and with just a heel strap, are not the best on rough ground. This light hiking shoe is great - it took the orthotics I use with my sandals well (these have a lower side profile), gave lots of breathability in a warm or hot environment, and gave great traction! They have laces, but don't tie, as they have a plastic slip knot-like structure that can be adjusted to tighten or loosen them. I have a high instep, and so this was great, as it gave lots of room. The only negative feature I found was that beacuse I have a couple of moderate "hammer toes", I found these toes rubbed on the top a little, but with more use, I would probably develop calluses there that would minimise discomfort. I reommend these shoes as a good alternative to sandals on rougher ground.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

November 25, 2010

These shoes are the perfect blend of sandal and shoe. My feet stay hot during the summer but i can't exactly wear sandals with sock. I found sock that match the shoe and can't even tell the openings are there!

great medicine
May 12, 2010

I waited awhile to write this review so I could break in the sandals. I have a bad big toe on my right foot. I have worn different styles of sandals but there has never been enough support to stop the big toe from hurting. These sandals did the trick. Support for my big size as well.

Great shooes for hiking
April 28, 2010

They run a little bit larger than keen sandals, maybe too accommodate socks. I haven't had them in the water yet but they look like they'll do as well as the Newport sandals I have.

Nice Sandal
April 28, 2010

I use this sandal for pretty much for everyday use and light sports and walking. Make absolutely sure you order the right size perhaps test it out first at a shoe store. I normally wear a size 10 this one is slightly bigger. Also keep in mind the toe area is wider compared to a shoe.

Great!
April 22, 2010

I wear a leg brace to keep my ankle immobile. This shoe is perfect. I can remove the insole from the shoe with the brace and keep the other insole intact. That way I don't have to worry about a length issue. This is my third pair. I am a female and buy the mans shoe because it is a litter wider to accommodate the brace. Keen is also great to send me elastic ties so I can tighten up the shoe around the brace. It's hard to wear them out!

Great Support, Comfy
April 04, 2010

These are great shoes for the summer. I have an old ankle injury and these shoes are great for walking and also for being around water. This is my second pair.

Great Shoes/Sandals for everyone...
February 18, 2010

I have flat feet and I have to wear custom orthotics most of the time, so I can't wear sandals for a long time which forced me to wear regular shoes and sneakers till now. This is my third pair of Keen sandals and I love them! I wear them during the summer and winter months, because they are so comfortable. They are also tough enough to withstand the rough terrain and conditions of Iraq and Texas. I highly recommend them to everyone.

My husbands first pair
December 27, 2009

A big hit - this is my husbands first pair and he has commented about how comfortable they are.

My husband wears this shoe EVERY DAY.
November 12, 2009

I bought these for my husband for Christmas as I have done for the past 3 years. He wears them every day, and I mean every day. Barefoot in summer and with socks in winter. He likes the support, breathability and most of all comfort.

Great three season shoes. Light, comfortable and still supportive.

broke after one weekend
November 08, 2009

initially these were great shoes, but after only one weekend of light use the top strap on the laces broke. I'm glad I wasn't out on a trip. This wouldn't bother me so much except Keen has a reputation for making quality gear and it seems the only real criticism I've read is about straps breaking. I'll give them another chance with an exchange, so I hope it was a rare material failure and not a design flaw.
