Excellent helmet
March 22, 2012

My husband and I both purchased this helmet. His Large fits nicely with room to adjust for a snug fit. My medium fits great. We both like that it adds a bit of warmth to our cold heads. Then if we get too hot, we can adjust the vents. Our biggest concern was the helmet would be awkward and bulky to wear. Thankfully that's not the case. They are lightweight and comfortable. All around great product. Only negative is finding the right goggle to fit the helmet and our faces. But we hear that's typical matching goggle fit and helmet.

Not skiing for a number of years it took some getting used to having a helmet skiing. It worked fine. A real benefit was the adjustable ventilation. The ability to adjust while wearing it was great. The adjustable headband was also usable while wearing the helmet, this proved the winning feature. Recommended.

Giro G-10 Ski Helmet
March 05, 2012

I went for the best and I feel I got it! The helmet is a good fit due to an adjustability roller on the back of the helmet. So on windy, colder days you can wear a baklava and still have a snug, safe fit. On top of the helmet you can be vented for warmer days, or close the vent for colder days with the push of a slide button! The ear pads have cut-outs ready for a sound-system installation! Don't cut corners, avoid a head injury, get the best!

Nice fit, warm, but goggles slide off when raised
February 09, 2012

I have used the helmet for about 10 hours over 2 days so far. I used it in 15-25 deg F weather. I can not speak to the durability of the helmet as I have only had it a couple of weeks. It was warm, light, easy to buckle, has an adjustable head band for a "snug" fit that won't "rock or swing" as your head moves. I have a full head of hair, and my head measures about 23.25 inches. I bought a large. The helmet is GREAT when used with "helmet compatible" goggles. I used mine with Scott "Strike" goggles. My main complaint with the helmet is that when I put the goggles up on the "eye-brow brim", for when I am in line or in one of the lodges, or I just want them off of my eyes temporarily, they snap back and trail on the back of the helmet like a long "pony tail". This is because the finish on the helmet is so smooth and the goggle strap is cloth. Some higher-end goggles have a rubberized or latex strap that I guess is supposed to eliminate this issue. But it was VERY frustrating. At one point, somehow, the goggle retainer snap in the back of the helmet came undone (not sure how but it may have been when I went under a lift-line guide rope), and then when on the lift, I put my goggles up for the ride up the mtn. When I reached for them..... GONE !!!!. I was able to retrieve them because they fell on a safety net over a body of water at the bottom of the lift. In looking for a solution, I found a product called "Goggle-Stop" specifically designed for this purpose. I have not got them yet. Not sure if I will. I was able to stick a small, 1.5 square inch patch of 3M Anti-Slip Tape on each side of the helmet to prevent this. So far it works well. This tape is available at any hardware store. It is like sandpaper that sticks on one side, and sells by the foot. Overall a good, mid priced, helmet with adjust able vents, and a comfortable warm fit. Just have to get the goggle situation under control.

Cons: matte smooth finish makes goggles slide off

Durable and hip
December 26, 2011

Great helmet for my 12 year old. She needed a larger helmet but the adult ones on the local market were too big. This one is so adjustable it will last for years of skiing fun (and safety). Loved the bright/neon green/yellow color, it is SO easy to find her on the slopes now! I like that it is very adjustable. She can wear the helmet alone or with a thin beanie or even a balaclava when it's really cold.

Well worth the price
December 16, 2011

Extremely comfortable helmet, sizing adjustment dial works well and doesn't slip. The different levels of venting actually make a considerable amount of difference heat wise (Fully Open, Half Open, Fully Closed). Fairly resilient shell- I bought a bright color with a glossy finish and initially I was worried it wouldn't hold up to regular wear and tear but it's done better than I would have expected, some scuffs show but not much else. Overall- Great Helmet I'd buy it again in a second.

I've been able to test this helmet in multiple riding seasons now and definitely recommend it. It keeps my head warm and works with my goggles. It is also very light and I do not notice it when I turn my head at all. Overall, it does not make me hesitant to go the extra few seconds and put it on. A little bit pricey, but it's worth the comfort.

G10 worth the extra money
March 15, 2011

I've had a G9 for the past few years (large) that kept pushing my goggles down my nose so this season I opted to upgrade to a medium G10. Although tough to throw down money for a piece of gear I already own, I am glad I did for many reasons. My new G10 fits great with or without a beanie on and kept my ears warm without muffling out my hearing. All the vents open by sliding a lever (G9 had little covers in each vent you had to remove); and although well vented, there was still enough open space to stick my GoPro camera mounts. Supposedly the Giro helmets are made to fit with the Giro goggles but I have yet to find a shop that carries them to see if it is even worth replacing my Oakleys.

Comfort: 5 / 5

Worth the extra money
February 22, 2011

This helmet is just great for two reasons: 1. adjustable inside sizing and 2. adjustable vents. The adjustable sizing makes it fit your noggin perfectly, while not being too tight, which helps when wearing earphones while skiing. The adjustable vents allow you to adjust to the weather and keep your noggin the exact right temperature. It's $30 or so more than the G9 which doesn't have either. Just spend the $30 -- you'll love it.

Great Helmet
January 31, 2011

This is a great helmet. It is very lightweight. I had never used a helmet before, but after my first trip down the mountain I forgot I was even wearing one. It just feels like I am wearing a beanie. The vents are very easy to open and close, even with gloves on. When I get hot and open them I can really feel the airflow all the way around my head. I wear the medium. I have a fairly small head for a man (wear 7 1/4 fitted ball cap), but the easy to turn size adjuster located in the back allows for a wide variety of head sizes and shapes. It also allows me to wear a beanie underneath on those really cold night trips. My only "complaint" is that the earpieces aren't quite as warm and fuzzy as my girlfriend's Junior G9. I can't really review the durability since I have only had the helmet for a few weeks, but I hit the back of my head on ice pretty good the other day and didn't feel a thing. This helmet was definitely worth buying.

I tried this helmet on elsewhere, but when I was ready to buy, my size was sold out. Luckily, Altrec had it in my size for a raging price. They shipped it exactly when promised. The helmet is wicked cool and the venting switch works great when it's not super cold, and warm when it is. Can't say anything bad about Altrec or Giro. They're both great. Kudos Altrec!
