Deuter Freerider Pro 30
March 20, 2011

The Deuter Freerider Pro 30 is as advertised. It works well for what I'm using it for witch is snowshoeing and back-country nordic skiing. It is large enough for a day trip with all your avalanche gear, or a cross country over night hut trip. I'm planing to also use it for day hiking trips this summer. The only cons for me are first the price, even on sale it's pricey. the hydration tube exits the back awkwardly. And last the compression straps go over the side pockets. I don't like it but if your using them for climbing skins it works.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, looks good
Cons: Cost

Awesome Pack
September 06, 2010

I recently bought this backpack for my weekend hiking's and it is by far one of the best I've owned. As other reviews point out it is not very light (being almost 4 lbs.), but all the extra things it has more than compensate for that. I have still to try it for snow hiking (I haven't used it with skis or snowboard attached), but for a regular hike it works flawlessly. The padding is great and it feels very nice, even when carrying a lot of weight, plus the design allows air to flow on your back. It really feels great even during a hot summer hike. I highly recommend it.

Great Pack
May 18, 2010

I use this pack for day trips in the backcountry. The best thing about the pack is that the back breathes. The material allows for some flow of air between the pack and the wearer's back so that your back stays cool and dry. I've seen this sort of feature in mountaineering packs, but not in a ski pack that also has the separate wet/dry compartments. All of the other features are great, the pack is light and stiff and the goggles pouch is particularly handy.

Deuter makes awesome day packs!
April 21, 2010

I love Deuter day packs. My 8-year old Futura 22, was my first Deuter product. it has been a faithful companion on many trips around the world and continues to deliver despite how much I burden it. Because of my good experience with this first pack, I was excited to see the freerider pro 30. I have yet to use it, but I plan to use the Freerider for snowshoe ascents/snowboard descents.

Nice but not for me
December 22, 2009

I ordered this pack because I read some great reviews about it on backpacker.com. But after getting it I decided it really wasn't for me. First thing that struck me was how heavy it is, at 4 lbs it weighs as much as my 70 liter weeklong pack, and this is a day pack. Next where the heavy duty but difficult zippers, this seemed like a real hassle to open regularly. Third was removable foam sheet/sit pad, good luck removing that from a full pack. Final deal breaker was the waist pocket that is too small for my camera. The pack really look tough and well made but too many hassles for me.
