good water-resistance
November 09, 2011

I was looking for a pair of multi-use pants that would look great for the office as well as when I'm out and about. I own several pairs of Columbia pants and have always liked the balance of fit and features. What attracted me to the Ultimate ROC pants was the treatment for water and stain resistance, since rain is an ever present possibility here in the northwest and I wanted a pair of pants that could bridge the gap between rain pants and no water resistance. I must say that I was very surprised the other evening when I was caught in a rain squall out at my kid's soccer practice. The wind picked up and rain started coming down hard and when I glanced down I was surprised to see the water beading up like full-on rain pants. I was in heavy, wind driven rain for 12 - 15 minutues and the ROC's were able to handle it, although I think they would have wetted through shortly. Nevertheless, I was impressed, as I didn't expect rain pants, but rather pants that could handle a light rain or heavy mist, so I feel that the ROC's will do the job. They also dried quite quickly once I was back in the car. I also like the ROC's two leg pockets, as they work well and are unobtrusive. I tend to like cargo pockets; however, despite my protestations that guys need a place for their stuff too, my wife insists that cargos are a fashion faux pas. There is a cell phone pocket on the side of the left leg and a zippered pocket on the right thigh, with side seam access. They don't stand out visually, so they look good for the office while also providing different types of storage options. I didn't give the ROC's five stars for a few reasons, which probably fall into the personal preference category. My first nit-pick is the fabric, which is fairly lightweight. Others may find the fabric comfortable, but I'd prefer a slightly heavier canvas type fabric. I've found the ROC fabric will flatten against my legs when it is windy, and heavier objects (cell phone) in the leg pockets tend to flap around while walking. I haven't had a chance to wear the ROC's in warm weather, so perhaps I'll appreciate the lighter weight fabric in the summer. Also, although I like the pockets overall, I miss not having a coin pocket and I wish the two rear pockets had something for greater security, such as velcro or a zipper. Lastly, I don't really care for the low rise cut as it just doesn't feel comfortable for me compared to my other Columbia pants. I know that low rise is fashionable with women's clothing, but I don't know any guys that seek out low rise, so I'm not sure why Columbia thought this would be a good feature. All in all, a solid pair of pants that will keep me protected from light rain, without looking like rain pants.

Roc Ultimate Pant
October 29, 2011

The pockets are more shallow than the regular Roc, and the back outside pockets don't have velcro to secure the top. They are more lightweight than the regular Roc.

The very best

I got these pants a few months ago and they became my instant favorites - very comfortable, yet maintaining an elegant shape and perfect fit. I love the color, the material has a slight texture that adds some class to them. I wear them all the time when it isn't too hot.

Great pants
July 15, 2011

I have owned another pair of these exact pants for about 6 months through hard use. They wear great but they do run a little larger than most other pants. They are also a lot more breathable than some of my other Columbia and TNF pants and they stay noticably cleaner through out the day due to the omni shield.

These are great for business casual style work pants. I have been wearing ROC's for some time now every day to work and it was time for replacements. Same good quality as last purchase from Altrec.

comfortable but runs big
May 15, 2011

Material is soft and comfortable but the waist runs one size large. I wear 34 in everything but had to return these for a 33. Retrun was quick and easy. Length on the 32 inseam was right on. I have not washed them yet to see how much they shrink but they are a bit of a loose fit so even if they shrink a little they should still be fine.

Pros: comfortable
Cons: fit is off

Runs long, but great fit
April 26, 2011

Bought these as a lighter weight alternative to Carhart canvas work pants. They are VERY comfortable for everything from desk work to lifting packages and working on equipment. They do run long, though. Normally wear a 34 and 32 fit fine even after several washings. Only drawback is rear seat pockets are cavernous and your wallet or dip will feel like it is under your bottom instead of on the back.

Nice pants
April 22, 2011

The pants are light enough to keep me cool but durable enough to take a beating. They run a little long but not that big of a deal. I had a pair of the old style that lasted a long time and I expect the same from these. The fit still feels the same

Great travel and everyday casual pant
March 24, 2011

These pants fit my medium height/ build very well. Unlike many hiking pants out there, these actually look somewhat stylish and can be worn as everyday casual wear without hesitation. They are roomy but not baggy. Material is quality fabric and holds up to multiple wearings without getting frumpy if you want to pack light for a trip. I was so pleased with my first pair that I got a second pair in another color. I gave it four stars because while my first pair fit perfect, the second pair (exact same waist and inseam) was longer and I may need to get the length altered. I don't mind it though because I like these pants so much and everything else about them is just about perfect.

These pants ROCk!
March 14, 2011

The details: Pants are lightweight, soft comfort and fit really well. I bought two pair of 32 waist, one pair is exactly right on the other is a slight 1/2 to 1 size bigger. In other words they both fit perfectly and don't run to big or small. I already dropped food on them and they keep stains off well. They are also nice for hiking and don't gather to much moisture. Overall: These are my new favorite pants. I bought a pair for backpacking and loved them so much I got another on Altrec, this is the best price I could find and they are worth every cent.

Best Hiking Pants Ever
February 24, 2011

These pants are amazing!! Perfect for the office and perfect for the trail...they do both. Wore them on an overnight hike and not only do they keep you warm, but they breathe extremely well. Would recommend them hands down above other "hiking" pants out on the market. These beat out Nike, The North Face, Carhartt and Timberland. Buy them! You won't regret it!

The Ultimate ROC's
February 21, 2011

I have had a few pairs of the original ROC pants from Columbia and when I saw these, I wasn't quite sure if they were worth buying since they were a bit expensive. When I did receive them I knew these were goingto be much, much better than the original ROC's. THe fabric is much softer, the old ROC's felt more like Carhartt work pants, very stiff. These are very comfortable, nicer quality also. I love the extra pocket's on the pant leg. I am happy they kept the extra little pocket on the inside of the right pcoket. Great for holding coins. The only issue I find with these, they run pretty long for what the inseam is listed as. So I'd keep that in mind. I was able to stitch them shorter. These are overall much nicer than the old ROC's, more stylish, I love the extra pockets, the fabric is softer and looks much nicer than before. THey are pretty durable, although Im not one to go on long hiking expeditions they do hold up well in general use. Stiching and the fabric are pretty durable. Just make sure you keep in mind they are longer than your other pants may be.

Best casual pants I've found
February 02, 2011

I've been searching high and low for the past year for a comfortable, durable casual pant that I can wear to work and not worry about if I have to do some construction/mechanical work during the course of the day. I've tried dozens of other pants/brands (including other Columbia's). They either fit weird, shrunk too much or weren't comfortable. These Columbia Ultimate ROC pants are perfect--great fit, hardly any shrinking, very comfy yet durable material. I bought five pair.

Good Pants

Great pants
December 31, 2010

I have two pairs of Ultimate ROC pants, and haven't worn a pair of jeans since getting my first pair a few months ago. Other than the inseam length running large I have no complaints. Super comfortable and great for working around the house or wearing to work on casual days.

5 Star Comfort
December 22, 2010

I love these Ultimate ROC Pants! The material is a lighter weight fabric than the regular ROC pants and that's a good thing. I live in the southern US and enjoy large temp swings, and sometimes on a daily basis. These pants provide comfort regardless of the changing conditions. Plus, they fit and look great.

Great pants, but maybe not "ultimate"
December 20, 2010

Love these pants in general. Soft buttery fabric, great cut. Side pockets carry items more in front of the leg than on the side of the leg, making them bounce a bit when walking. Not as comfortable as, say, those on the side of a pair of Carhartts. Or as the side pockets on the original Roc pants. Those original ones, too, are made of a less flexible fabric that, while having a less pajama-pants-soft feel, are still pretty soft and preferable to me. These do fit more true than the original Roc pants in the waist, although long in the leg. Bottom line: I bought three pairs and got rid of lots of old pants.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value
Cons: side pockets a bit funny

Ordered these pants because the old pair I bought fit so well. Turns out they "re-engineered" them and made them much bigger! They were too big at the waist and hips, even though I bought the recommended size.

Very comfortable Pant
November 19, 2010

I previously purchased Columbia Lander pants, found them to be comfortable and versatile, so I tried the Ultimate ROC pant and am very pleased with the quality and comfort of these pants. I am a 34x34 for most pants and these were right on at that size. Greta for casual wear or business casual.

Built for Comfort and for Speed
October 12, 2010

I got these pants from Altrec after I saw them at a local dept. store. The fabric is supple, yet durable. Not at all scratchy like some other outdoorsy clothes. The pockets are roomy and in just the right place. I got the 35X30 and the waist has a little more room than I'm accustomed to and the inseam is just a scoche longer than I'm used to as well. However, I am overall happy with these pants and I will be buying more from Altrec when I get my next paycheck. These could be acceptable in some business casual work environments which is where I wear them.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value
Cons: slightly oversize
