Great pants for fishing or hiking.
March 19, 2012
I have used Columbia fishing shirts for several years and have enjoyed their capacity to quick dry as well as the overall comfort in hot weather, so I decided to try several pair of Columbia Men's PFG Aruba llI Pants for not just fishing but camping and hiking too. I already own a pair of North Face convertible pants so I knew I already liked that style, the ability to convert pants into shorts and back is a very handy feature for me. I like the fact that it has an elastic banding waist but am not so sure I like the built in underwear, like a bathing suit. It has grown on me but when you change cloths at camp you must get fully naked rather than shedding down to skivvies. It does have belt loops (the North Face pants I have has a built in belt) which I like for carrying knife/multi tool/GPS/phone/etc. This is a feature I don't like about the North Face pants I own. The fitting was true to size but I am not sure about durability as I haven't worn them enough to tell. I will give you an update in the future on the durability issue. These pants are extremely light and comfortable to hike in and dry amazingly quick.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, quick drying and lightIF YOUR GOING FISHING THESE ARE THE BEST

Sturdy and tough but extremely light. Would (will!) buy them again. They are so useful on a business trip for the knocking around time, and they take no space and weigh nothing. Look good too.
Sorry men, but great for a gal

I have had two pair of a variation of these pants for over ten years, and I wear them everyday as well as on all my travels. I love the forgiving elastic waistband (also the best for quick rest stops behind a tree), the length of the zipoff is perfect for me, just above the knee, the pockets (please give us deep pockets!) are so deep that lipsticks, lip goos, pedometers stay put when you sit down) and there are two Velcro pockets in front of those that are excellent for things that need to be a little more secure. In the back there's a zip pocket for cash or valuables. It has a long rise, very good for short-waisted people like me. This particular version has a built-in mesh pant which I clipped out, fascinating idea for some, but way too uncomfortable for me. I recommend these if you are looking for comfort, deep, deep pockets and plenty of them, and quality that will last you 10 years or more with constant everyday use. Thank you Columbia for making them again! I have tried on 50 or more pants over the years trying to find this comfort, and none compare to these!
Nice pants and fit. But...

The fit & finish is good. The design is bad one. Making it not a convenient pant for hike. The side pockets are too big. Also, the side pockets are not low enough, it kind of hinders with the side pockets.
lightweight and comfortable
