First off, let me say that I am not a huge expert on oars, and have only used Carlisles and regular Cataracts before. Regular Cats to Carlisles is almost night and day in regards to the difference. The Cats are way lighter, and have such a nice flex in them. It is just amazing how light they are. But for my next set of oars, I decided to get these counterweighted ones. They don't feel so nice when trying to hold them. But you put them in your oar locks, and they are magic. Have done both long float and bloat trips with them, and big water Class IV, and they have been equally great in each. I knew they would be nice on flat water, but was pleasantly surprised how well they worked on big water when you get thrown around a lot and so do your oars. But they weren't bad at all. Maybe not as good as unweighted ones, but if you want only one oar, I like the counterweighted over the regular Cats, as the very slight disadvantages on white water don't come close to the supreme amount of advantages on flat water.

Cataract makes a strong reliable product.

The blades from my shorter shafts on in a snap! There are several blade styles to available. Pre-wrapped so you just needed to roll the stoppers into place to suit yourself. Counterbalance makes the longer shaft handle like a shorter one, and you get alot more stroke out of each pull.
