Great product
April 21, 2012

Just got my new helmet recently and have been very impressed with the quality. Isn't too bulky like some others with similar design. Will be testing it in the Texas heat real soon, but I fully expect this helmet to do the job. For sizing reference, I wear a 7 1/4 ball cap and purchased the large. Fit is perfect and feels great while riding.

Bern is very good, not great.
January 23, 2012

Great looking helmet with some interchangeable accessories. Fit seems to run a little small to my noggin. Minimal adjustability within size. Finish of helmet is good, not flawless. We have two Berns and one Nutcase helmet in the family and I would readily recommend the Nutcase over the Bern for comfort, fit, adjustability and overall quality of manufacture. (Have you seen Nutcase's magnetic closure!?!)

Feels Good, Looks Good
July 25, 2011

I have been riding with my Bern Watts helmet (summer) for a few weeks now and it rocks! Living in the deep south, it can get pretty hot and humid. This helmet keeps my head cool while looking cool and staying safe. I measured my head right in the middle of the medium sizing chart, and the helmet fits me great. I have no idea it is there. Also, sunglasses slide right on without touching the sides of the helmet.

Exceeded My Expectations
July 22, 2011

When buying this helmet I was nervous about what size, with a size of 57 I went for the large because I read reviews that it fits snug. The size fits pefrectly, and what the discription doesn't tell you is that it has sink fit which adjusts the padding to the right size. I use this helmet for mountain biking and I love it, and it also doen't look bad. This helmet works for both girls and boys, I am a girl and love the style, and it fits great.

Great Non-Alien Helmet
July 05, 2011

I love this non-alien looking helmet. The matte grey with brim is a cross between a WW2 helmet and a baseball cap. Looks even better in person. Comfortable, breathable and has a nice muted look. My only criticism is that the brim does not keep out as much sun as I thought it would. But that does not detract from the value for me.

This is my mountain biking helmet!
June 18, 2011

I own three of these Bern Watts helmets. Two of the Summer Hard Hats and this EPS helmet. They are very stylish and do the job admirably. The fit and look of the "hat" style set them apart from the Giros and Bells of the helmet world. I have yet to crash and break any of these but the build is similar to any that I have used and would trust them to do the job -- protecting my head. I also use this helmet for other sports; skiing and kayaking. The hard foam helmet seems to be more durable than the Brock foam Summer Hard Hats, these tend to get "stinkier" quicker and you need to wash with a good soap. The EPS style is just a quick rinse and scrub of the straps. If you have a large head, i.e. 7 3/4" or bigger, get the XXL if you can find it. I got the XL and removed the soft pads to get a nice sunk-in look. If you like the look of your helmet, you'll wear it!

Solid Helmet
June 02, 2011

Good fit, solid construction and sleek design. Most people assume it's a skaters helmet which is a fair assumption. Chose the matte black so the brim appeared to seamlessly transition to the helmet, itself. Comfortable straps. It's snug so if you're on the cusp of a MD/LG I'd recommend the LG. I may swap mine out for that reason but regardless which size you are, it's a solid choice of helmets.

Great Helmet!
May 24, 2011

The Bern Watts Eps is extremely comfortable and stylish. I would highly recommend sizing before making a purchase. The helmets "sink fit" feature protects the back of the head without making you look like a cyborg as other helmets tend to do. I primarily use this helmet for mountain biking and absolutely love the venting as well. You also can clean the padding easily and adjustments are quick and easy.

Still working with the sizing.
May 02, 2011

I am still working with this helmet because I do in fact like it, but "sink fit" isn't quite what I expected. I have seen pictures of people wearing it and it does in fact "sink" but on my head not so much. I am a fan of the quality and how the straps are easily adjustable. There is a comfort insert (sweatband?) that snaps out and it is washable which is super awesome. It is light weight and just over all neat looking. I just need to get a size that fits! I am 5'1 and female. I measured my head and bought a size medium because that is what my head measured as. I am giving the medium to my boyfriend and getting myself a size small.

Great style for a helmet, especially the built-in visor. Too bad it does not come in a size larger than XL (I needed an XXL). Had to return because it was a tight fit.

Got the XL which was WAY too big...ridiculously too big. Hard to purchase stuff like this on the internet I guess. BUT, that said, the design is awesome, the quality was great.

Best helmet I've ever used
December 02, 2010

It's a helmet so it's inherently a little awkward and silly looking. However, in terms of comfort, appearance, and (perceived) protection this one is the best I've tried. I've never biked with a helmet before (couldn't find one I liked) and I have no problem wearing this for daily commuting rides. Disclaimers: -I bought in November so I haven't had a chance to wear it in warm weather. Seems like it will do fine though. -I haven't crashed in it yet, but it seems really sturdy and up to the task of protecting my skull. -I wear a knit cap underneath. Feels great this way.

Great helmet!
October 13, 2010

I researched quite a bit, and found that the helmet that was of the best quality as well as still being attractive was Bern helmets. They have a great variety of bike helmets and this one is super comfertable and feels very safe! It also can handle a lot, I bike with it everyday and have dropped the helmet several times and gets a bit scratched up but isn't affected otherwise. I love this helmet!!!

At last
September 22, 2010

I've spent 30 years trying to find a bicycle helmet that fits yet doesn't look like my head is in a basket. This is utterly comfortable and appears to be top quality (although that's tough to verify without bouncing on my head). While we haven't had blazingly hot weather, it has been in the 80s and the helmet seems to be as cool as any I have used. Definitly recommend this but I would also recommend trying a Bern on before buying. My son simply cannot find one that fits him. One caveat: when riding into the wind or at speed, the helmet sometimes whistles in my ear. While it makes me feel like I am going 200mph, it might be annoying to some.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use

Style,Protection...........Great Helmet!!!
August 18, 2010

I recently motorized a vintage bicycle and was looking for a helmet that I felt would offer more protection than a standard bike helmet without the clunkiness of a motorcycle helmet. Eureka! I found the Bern Watts. Solidly built, feels like high quality materials.Proper venting. Unique, striking style...love the visor.I've actually received compliments on this helmet. Normally wear large, went with XL,fits perfect. Very happy with my purchase. Thumbs up for ALTREC.COM too!

Safe helmet with a cool look

I have recently bought the Bern Watts Summer EPS Helmet and I am glad I made the purchase. I have been mountain biking several times now and it is very comfortable and looks awesome. I would recommend this helmet and this website to anyone.

Great helmet, Great service from Altrec.com
August 06, 2010

Altrec shipped the helmet fast, at a good price, and it fits perfectly!

Exactly what I wanted minus fitting
July 31, 2010

Solid helmet, smooth design, not very bulky, my color way was legit, but didn't fit. I'm 7 1/2 and the XL was wobbly as hell. Im a C section baby so Ive got this ridge on my dome that makes the EPS foam a difficult fit. I also plan on returning it for a L but definitely will downgrade to the hard hat foam... maybe its my head, maybe I got it too big- but not a good fit. I read a review that said something like "if the EPS fits you- congrats, you've got a solid helmet. if the EPS doesn't fit you... you've got a nice helmet still in the box". Mines in the box. Try this one on in a store first.

Bern Watts Summer EPS Helmet
July 23, 2010

I commute on my bike every day. This is a great helmet! I normally wear a large bicycle helmet and it was tight so I bumped up t a XL and it fits like a glove. The Bern EPS is excellent with my single speed on the streets and my MTB in the mountains. I can see peripherally well with it in traffic. It is made from quality materials. I imagine this helmet lasting way longer than my older helmet. It covers my head better and the visor is nice to block the sun. I thought it might be too hot and its not. The vents work great. Altrec are good people. The guys were nice, bright and easy to deal with. They were helpful and had excellent communication. No snooty hipsters there. I highly recommend Altrec!

Most stylish helmuts on the market
June 07, 2010

I received my Bern Watts Summer EPS Helmet last week and I love it. It's really hard to find them in a retail store, even here in NYC. So glad Altrec carries them! I wish there was a bit more ventilation and more color options were offered. But even so, it's so much better looking than anything else you can buy. Looking forward to many years of use!
