Incredibly Versatile
April 05, 2012

This jacket has become my favorite piece of winter clothing in a few short months. Hiking, skiing, and simply wearing it to work, it does exactly what it is supposed to do. The jacket itself is uber light and extremely comfortable. The side vents do what they are supposed to , especially when being athletic, and the insulation keeps you snug but not too hot. The hood is a bonus and fits easily under my ski helmet or my hard shell. It seems to layer effortlessly during colder days, but is also a great "throw on" for everyday use. My biggest issue with other insulated layers is the pinching and bunching you get under the arms. Arc'teryx has solved this problem. It does not hinder movement at all or cause any discomfort. All in all, I highly recommend this jacket!

Stylish, light, good for certain activities
March 27, 2012

I got this for my bf after I got the atom LT for myself which I loved. He usually wears a M (5'11", athletic/lean, 160lbs) and the M fit perfectly. He can fit a tshirt or a long sleeve shirt underneath. A thicker sweater makes it look too bulky. He tried the nanopuff before and that was just too short and boxy for him in M. This was a much nicer fit. He's had to layer a bit underneath for wearing in around town in northern California since it's not windproof and not the warmest but it's fine if he's active.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Maybe not as warm as i thought it would be
February 15, 2012

Am using it for a California winter. Nice fit and looks great. Not as warm as I was hoping for it to be, but can be stuffed into a small package. Waited for the Dark Dust version. Looks like a pastel dark blue. Am going skiing in 2 weeks and will use it then. So will try to update then on the warmth factor.

Pros: Great design, Build quality
Cons: not sure exactly how warm it is

Sweet Mid-Weight!
December 19, 2011

I finally broke down and bought an Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody for use in my fall and winter outdoor pursuits, I am 5'10" and weight 165 lbs. and found the the medium fits perfectly...I would absolutely swim in the large. The color I purchased is called squid ink which is more purple than blue. I primarily purchased for a mid-layer, but it is perfect as an outside shell for cool days around town. Some of the key features that I like are the stretch underarm panels, the close fitting spandex wrist cuffs, the low back, and the very effective waist/hip draw cord. The piece is super compressible, and takes up almost no room in your pack during trips in the backcountry. It will always go with me. We recently had a string of days at the mountain where daytime temps hovered around 0*F and with a base layer, the Atom LT Hoody, and a shell jacket provided the perfect combination - comfortable not cool or hot.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
Cons: love to see a locking zipper

Awesome 3 season everywhere companion
August 18, 2011

The Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody is the perfect jacket for the spring, fall, and winter seasons. It's lightly insulated with PrimaLoft and there are 2 panels of Polartec Power Stretch, on the left and right, to help breathability if cardio kicks up a bit. When the weather is chilly but Father Winter hasn't quite made his presence felt, it's a great piece of light outerwear that'll keep you warm and comfy on it's own with a t-shirt underneath. Then when things start to get really cold, it can perform as the perfect mid-layer! The fit is definitely athletic. I'm 5'9" 145lbs athletic and I wear a medium ... It's a perfect fit! Small definitely would be cutting into my pits and large would leave too much space everywhere. The hood has more of a form fitting fit to seal in the warmth without being constricting. If you've ever tried on the non-hoody version, the fit is exactly the same as that. Love, love love this jacket! ... So much so that I even have the non-hoody and vest versions =)

Awesome jacket! It has a unbelievable light weight, As for me, It 's more suitable for middle layer , not out-layer . It keeps me warm in cold winter, Moreover, it 's windproof and high quality made. I am very satisfied with it. But it's not suitable for extreme cold winter.

All I hoped for
June 30, 2011

Hello, recently got the atom hoody, in deep dusk which seems black until you get it into the sunlight then it seems very dark blue, cool color. 6'1 170 went with medium, fits slim but no movement is restricted and not tight. a large would probably be too big (on me) as the tail drops down quite a bit. the fit is great, have a nano hoody and this feels much stronger and fits better. the hood fits bigger than i thought and should have a draw cord. this has been great as a stand alone in cooler temps and when the heavy rain or cold weather comes throw a shell over (which anything slides easily over and under this). THis is my new favorite piece that will always be in the pack. The strech panels are like someone read my mind. GET IT before they change it.

very warm
May 22, 2011

This is a very comfortable and nice-looking jacket. Once you put it on you feel the warmth immediately, unlike some fleece jacket. I think it provides me at least same warmth as North Face Denali polartec 300 fleece but much much lighter and much more comfortable. I am glad I made the purchase. I also bought the Atom SV hoody in the same time and feel this is almost as warm as atom SV because SV is more spacious unlike LT is very snug and hold your body like glove.

Can't get much better
April 25, 2011

The cuffs on this jacket are amazingly comfortable. I'm 6'3" and pretty skinny and a large fits perfectly. I tried on the medium and it was way too snug, so I'm glad I stuck with the large. I was very impressed with this jackets wind and water resistance. I feel like it is almost wind and waterproof, but I haven't worn it in a down pour. Coreloft insulation is awesome, so this jacket is all I needed in the 32 degree and up range. I'm not too wild about the side polar tech fleece. Unless you are constantly moving and working up a decent sweat, you can really feel the wind and the cold. So, I just keep my arms down at my side. I'm not saying its a bad feature, but I'd rather have pit zips. I have had no issue with the zipper falling down. Overall, I think this jacket is the way too go if you're looking for a lightweight, warm, wind and water resistant, and very comfortable jacket. I gave it four stars only because i'd like to see it with pit-zips.

Great Jacket
February 27, 2011

Like other reviewers, this jacket surprised me with how effective it is. I layered this with the Theta (windproof/waterproof Arcteryx) and was very warm walking in 20 degree windy weather. Very light, fits good and is good if you want to be active and have free movement. Very happy with the purchase. Not sure how to rate durability as I have only had it for a few months. With both jackets (theta and atom) I am covered for four seasons, just layer as needed.

Great Jacket
January 21, 2011

The jacket, as expected from Arc'teryx, is well built in every regard. I am 6', 180lb, 41" chest and normally wear between a medium and large in Arc'teryx. I went for a large in this one, so I could toss it over a light softshell or under a hard shell. It fits perfectly for both. It is extremely comfortable, lightweight (412g on my scale), and dries really quickly when wet from inside or out. I highly recommend it as a light belay coat or a cold weather action piece. I took it along on a ski approach to an ice climb (Cold Stream Canyon) last weekend and it was warm when I needed it to be and disappeared in my pack when not needed....what else can you ask for? The only drawback (in my mind) are the fleece lined pockets: I don't care for them, but I think I'm in the minority on that one.

A jacket of all trades (get it?)
January 11, 2011

I originally had the atom without the hood but I decided the hood would be good to have in the long run. This is jacket can be used as a stand alone piece in very low temps, but it is also a great middle layer when things get ugly. It's perfect for someone who is active and needs something light that can get the job done. This is a jacket that I will keep with me at all times during the winter months and I would highly recommend it to someone who is in the market for a light synthetic jacket.

Everyone is going to love this Hoody
January 04, 2011

This jacket is amazing. I am super excited to wear this jacket this winter. I normally wear a Large in Arxteryx. In the Atom I went up a size to an XL. The large when I tried it on fit but was super slim and wanted room to wear a small layer under it. When I tried the Xl it was still slim but gave me room to fit something under it.

Great Piece of Kit
December 17, 2010

Solid piece. I've worn it ice climbing as a mid-layer, basically replacing my fleece hoody. I plan to wear it through the rest of the season. Great cut for me (6'3", long torso/arms). No issues with mobility and long reaches. Also wear it around the city as an outer layer. It's warm for the weight, warmer than a fleece of similar weight, but not super warm. I haven't had it long enough to comment on durability. Hood is ample enough to wear over a helmet. However when fully zipped, the zipper easily migrates down an inch or two with any outward pill. Overall, I would highly recommend for similar usage.

It is good middle wear.
December 09, 2010

Because the permeability is good, it takes an active part as the middle wear. It finds it useful very much because it is warm when putting it on under the shell jacket etc. It is a very good as middle wear on a cold day commodity. The correspondence of the shop is also good because S size is not sold, it is not so good there though I want to buy.

Atom LT Hooded Insulated Jacket Rocks
December 07, 2010

Lets just get it out there, this jacket rocks. It is super light weight but is still super toasty. It doesn't have pit zips but the fleece that makes up the side of the jacket and armpits help vent moisture and excess heat. The material on the out side is surprisingly water proof as well.

Sizing
December 05, 2010

Great coat< with a good fit. I am 5'11" and weigh about 165-170lbs with a 31" waist and 42" chest. The medium was perfect. I think all the companies are starting to make their clothes larger. Wore it under a shell yesterday skiing and never got cold. If your like me, and always reading the reviews for sizing info, this will hopefully help.

November 25, 2010

This jacket was even better than I expected. I love the look, style, fit. It is very warm. I like that the hood is not made to cover a helmet, so I can use it every day or under my helmet. This is the best mid-layer that I have and I have a lot of them. I like this so much that I an going to order the heavier SV model as well

I love this Hoody
November 15, 2010

A non-fleece insulation piece from Arc'teryx for under $200. That can't be right!?! But it is. This insulated hoody has become my favorite everyday do everything cool weather Jacket. It packs down super small for instant on hand insulation. It also has proved to be a killer mid-layer, as the fabric slides well and does not seem to bind the way fleece can under a shell. I even find that when worn as a mid-layer the hood forms a really comfortable gasket on the back of the neck keeping cold air from creeping in. All in all, the Atom could be my new favorite jacket from Arc'teryx!

Just about perfect
November 13, 2010

This is my fifth different Arcteryx jacket over the years and one of my favorites. I bought it for backcountry use and around town during the NW winter. So far IÂ’ve found it comfortable (with only a T-shirt underneath) down to the mid-40Â’s. IÂ’d say its warmth is comparable to a mid/heavy-weight fleece with a windbreaker over it. In the backcountry I can use it down close to freezing when itÂ’s over a long-sleeve lightweight wool top, and under a rainshell. The hood adds a lot of warmth for minimal weight and confusion. My favorite part are the cuffs, which provide a really nice stretchy, secure fit (unlike some other Arcteryx cuff designs). Fit and quality of the jacket are typical Arcteryx best in the business. I really like the clean design that's free of the sewn thru seams you see all across most other synthetic-insulated jackets. My only complaint (as IÂ’ve seen others mention) is that the main zipper easily comes down. Arcteryx really needs to change this to a locking/stiffer zipper design. ItÂ’s only a slight annoyance for what otherwise is a perfect insulating mid-layer. I love the whole Atom line, and if you need more warmth, check out the Atom SV.

ultra light warmth
November 11, 2010

I already have the atom LT but wanted a hoody and couldn't find a better one than this. While it will make a great mid layer for the cold weather ahead, I am using it this Fall as my primary outerwear for playing golf on chilly mornings. I like the range of motion that the design and underarm fabric allows. One of my favorite jackets!

Light weight warmth
November 07, 2010

I was a little dubious about the warmth of this jacket when I received it as it is very thin and light-weight but it works very well for my purposes. Great as either an outer layer or layered under a shell for hiking and snow-shoeing in the Colorado mountains. I also own a North Face Nuptse down jacket and whilst this jacket is not as warm as a heavy fill down, it has advantages over down for aerobic activities as it doesn't cause you to overheat as much and maintains warmth and comfort better when sweating. Also allows layering under a shell unlike more bulky down. One thing I would change would be to add a cinch cord around the hood which is very loose fitting and lets in the wind. The elasticated cuffs are great though, form an air-tight seal which is very comfortable and works great with gloves. In short great for layering and cold weather aerobic activities, for more sedantary activities I would go with goose-down.

very light

Amazing
February 16, 2010

I can't say enough good things about this jacket. It is warm enough for well below freezing temps and is incredibly light and packable. The fleece side panels really help this jacket breathe when you are working hard. I usually don't buy arc'teryx products unless they are on sale, but this one I paid full price for and it was well worth it.
